Paul Ryan on Firearms

With the announcement of Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., as Mitt Romney’s pick for vice president, the first question among GunVoters was where Ryan stands on gun issues.

The fact that Ryan is an active hunter, with bow and firearms, is promising, but not definitive.

There are plenty of examples of hunters who hold elitist attitudes about firearms. One need look no further than past Democrat presidential nominee John Kerry’s idiotic attempts at gaining GunVoter support by staging a photo-op goose hunt – in spite of his long record supporting restrictive gun laws in Congress. But Ryan isn’t one of those. Ryan’s hunting credentials are significant and bona fide, and there is no hint of prejudice against average Joe gun owners or modern sporting rifles – mislabeled as “assault weapons.” His voting record is also solid with votes supporting the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act protecting firearms manufacturers and sellers from being sued when a criminal misuses their products, and bills that would make concealed carry permits good nationwide.

Yes, Paul Ryan did vote "Aye" on H.R. 822, the National Right to Carry Reciprocity Act of 2011. Hopefully he'll rub off on the top of the ticket.

I wonder if Ryan or Romney ever yelled at their dogs?

We have to make sure that we don’t replace Obama with anyone who isn’t ABSOLUTELY PERFECT. After all, Obama is perfection himself so anyone who replaces him should be perfect too. (Sarcasm)

I’m glad Ryan is a supporter of the 2nd, but hunting has nothing to do with the 2nd.
But, it is the president that makes the decision and Romney has proven that he is an enemy of the 2nd.
VP’s have no power.

Mitt Romney-”These guns are not made for recreation or self-defense, they are instruments of destruction with the sole purpose of hunting down and killing people,”

Candidate Romney in action: “Suddenly, a heavyset man wearing a bright-orange cap entered the room. “Mr. Romney,” he called out. “Eric Orff—I’m a hunter.” It was a potentially awkward moment. Earlier this year, Romney claimed that he’d “been a hunter pretty much all my life.”

A few days later, he said in a statement, “I’ve hunted small game numerous times.”

Four days after that, Romney told W. Gardner Selby, of the Austin American-Statesman, “Any description of my being a hunter is an overstatement of capability.”

Still, he couldn’t resist. “You’re a hunter?” he said to Orff. “Well, same here. Good to see ya.”

Hard to believe the easily led need to be told this.

You mean to tell me The Founders didn’t enshrine our God-given rights to keep and bear arms so that we could all hunt wabbits? There was another reason? I’m shocked!

The author really wanted to bring John Kerry into the article?

Who can ever forget Kerry's "Can I get me one of them huntin' licenses?" Laughed for weeks on that one.

Ryan's a good guy that loves to hunt and fish.

As the tie breaking vote in the Senate, Ryan is much better than Biden.

...hunting has nothing to do with the 2nd.

I must agree. The 2nd makes no distininction.

I can use a Ruger Mini-14 (I wish I could own one in MA but thanks to Mitt, I cannot) to take a deer and I could also employ it for a great...many...other...things.

That there are no such distinctions is a very good thing. And any such arguments are immaterial.

VPs have the "power" to advise the POTUS.

Indeed. If another HR 822-like bill were to make it's way into the Senate, having Ryan as the tie breaker would be HUGH and SERIES!

How "extreme" would that be for Ryan to send it over to his Boss's desk for signature!

Mitt Romney-”These guns are not made for recreation or self-defense, they are instruments of destruction with the sole purpose of hunting down and killing people...”

Presumably he went on to say "...And that is why they belong in the hands of every law-abiding American."

The United States Constitution does not mention ducks.

"VPs have the "power" to advise the POTUS."

I know, but the President has the power to ignore advice, which I am sure Romney would do if any gun related issues come to his desk. VP's virtually have nothing to do except tie votes in the Senate and go to funerals of other dignitaries.

Better to have Ryan advising Romney to govern in a pro-2A manner than Biden cheering Soetoro as he undermines the 2A.

But, it is the president that makes the decision and Romney has proven that he is an enemy of the 2nd.

I just finished watching Charlie Rose with a roomful of 'Rat political writers (John Heilemann, Mark Halperin, Joe Klein, and some woman from Politico.com), which I don't recommend for people who don't like chasing Tagamets with Pepto-Bismol, and Joe Klein's favorite wet-dream fantasy about how Romney can be "more competititive" is to come out for gun control.

Needless to point out, they think America's going to get our chips cashed by the New America democrap demographic of gays, feminazified hags, blacks, and brown racists.

I thought the thread was about Ryan, not Romney.

Romney appeared at an NRA convention and expressed his support for the Second Amendment. He just appeared in the latest issue of the NRA magazine and was interviewed there and expressed his support of the Second Amendment. His website states he supports the Second Amendment.

What the hell do you want?????

I support the Second Amendment, am a long time member of the NRA and NMRA and belong to two gun clubs.

I have NO PROBLEM with supporting a guy who SAYS he suuports the Second Amendment voer an IDIOT who has done EVERYTHING possible to UNDERMINE the Second Amendment from Fast and Furious to supporting a UN law restricting trade on small arms.

SHEESHHHHHH !!!!!!!!!!!!!

PERSPECTIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Romney is interviewed favorably in the latest issue of the NRA magazine. Check it out. They support him. That’s enough for me.

You are correct, but the current President says that he supports the Second Amendment as well. Of course, he lies. A lot.

Your devotion to the man is thorough, many of us still look at him as some one who existed before his latest campaign morphing, we look at his actual life, and politics.
