Eerie similarites: Isaac follows track of Katrina, evacuations ordered for coast

Thousands in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama were being told early Monday to leave their Gulf Coast homes ahead of the arrival of Tropical Storm Isaac as forecasters warned it was gaining strength as it followed the same path Hurricane Katrina took seven years earlier. The governors of the three states each declared a state of emergency, with Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley ordering mandatory evacuations to begin at 8 a.m. for residents who live along the coast and for those in some low-lying areas inland.

"I am urging everyone to take precautions now, monitor weather warnings, and be prepared for whatever Isaac may bring," Bentley said in a statement released Sunday. A hurricane warning was issued for the northern coast of the Gulf of Mexico, from Morgan City, Louisiana, east to Destin, Florida, the National Hurricane Center said. The tropical storm was expected to make landfall late Tuesday or Wednesday -- the anniversary of Katrina's landfall -- as a Category 1 hurricane, with winds of at least 74 mph.

Isaac's strength was holding steady early Monday as it moved at 14 mph through the warm Gulf waters, about 180 miles southwest of Fort Myers, Florida, forecasters said. The storm was packing maximum sustained winds of 65 mph, according to a hurricane center advisory.

It appeared early Monday that the storm's ferocity would mostly bypass Florida's west coast and the Republican National Convention in Tampa, where the schedule was pushed back a day by organizers over concerns about the storm.

Isaac's eye is forecast to pass well west of Tampa.

After slamming into Haiti, where at least six people died in storm-related incidents Saturday, Isaac lashed Cuba and the Florida Keys.

There are so far some eerie similarities between Hurricane Katrina and Isaac, CNN meteorologist Dave Hennen said.

Katrina was already a Cat 2 by the time it entered the gulf. Yes, Isaac has the potential but I don’t see it yet.

Slamming? a little over the top? the six people probably died from earth quake related issues, like my tent blew away with me in it or got washed away with me in it. Any idea where all the donated money went to relieve these poor bastards? Bubba? Bush sr? They are still running commercials for donations years later with a hollywood actress/actor begging for help.

Media blather. This storm is not following the path of Katrina. Katrina crossed South Florida. Didn’t come up through Cuba. Katrina was also a much stronger storm.

I'm sorry but if these MORONS don't save themselves this time and evacuate, I say let them drown. They're just too STOO-PID and lazy to worry about.

And, if O'DUmmie violates Louisiana's sovereignty and sends in Federal Troops without Gov Jindal's okay, the Louisiana National Guard should respond by 'evicting' the Federal troops by any means necessary. That's how our Republic and Federalism works, and Barry better learn it.

Plus the maroons in the MSM who were all over Dubya for doing absolutely nothing wrong in Katrina's aftermath.

The 2008 market crash was on Erev Rosh Hashanah. The last day of the year, the last day of the 30 days of blowing shofar in a call for repentance, the last day before the 10 days of Awe ending with Yom Kippur.

Rosh Hashanah is the anniversary of the creation of Adam, and the offering of Isaac.

The difference for LA this time is they have a great governor who will LEAD in a crisis, instead of bawling like a baby (Kathleen Blanco) and blaming the feds.

The only similarity between Katrina and Isaac will be the media blaming both storms on Republicans.

The only similarity between Katrina and Isaac will be the media blaming both storms on Republicans.

On Fox this AM, reporting was that it would make landfall as a Cat 1 with 90 MPH winds, but since it's a very slow moving storm, rainfall amounts are going to be 12"+ in some locations. So a large storm surge like Katrina is not likely, but with all that rain, there will be a lot of flooding.

I think the networks will use this as an excuse to relive Katrina. Since Isaac won't rival it, they'll have to keep viewers attention with Katrina. And of course, any coverage of Katrina won't be complete without pinning the entire blame for the aftermath on GWB.

The last week has provided two glitzy wrapped gifts for Obama - Todd Akin and now Katrina Lite.

good thing for LA they elected a competent governor instead of a crying panty wetting mess. She would be calling the DNC to see what would work best for Obama, allowing people to die or getting them out..

HOW will the Democrats use this to cheat and submit Fraudulent votes in 2012’s election? How much money will be siphoned out of Taxpayers’ pockets this time for LooterMan, tatoo’s, jewelry, Lottery Tickets, etc., for the “poor unfortunate” inner-city tribal members?

A lot of the initial money went to building temporary shelters. For example , my company was involved in selling 3/4” plywood and metal roofing to building 4’x 8’ shacks. The plywood was for the floor. Can you imagine living in a shack the size of a sheet of plywood ?

Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphire. Their side of the island is almost completely deforested. They cut down all the trees to burn the wood to cook food.
The Dominican Republic has armed guards all along the border to keep the Haitians from flooding across. They have almost no infrastructure. Corruption is the standard. It is really a shame.
