Are these the same polls that many said were manipulated at first to keep him in? Does this mean they are now being manipulated to push him out?

He will lose MO and lost MO for Romney. It’s time to tell Huckerbee, Suckerbee, Buckerbee, Bumblebee, to stop supporting this idiot and have him withdraw from the race, now!

Right or wrong is one thing. Win or lose is another. If you can’t win, being right doesn’t mean anything.

What a plan. Abandon the good guy on the field of battle and complain that he will lose.

Lots of folks have their panties in a wad over Akin. Clairbell couldn’t win this state now if she was the only one on the ballot.

Hmmm ... Where in the Weekly Standard blog post do they reference the polls supporting their analysis? Could they perhaps *still* be referencing polls performed during the kneejerk reactionary period to Akin's statement? Were the polls taken *prior* to his Friday announcement to stay in the race? Is this a continuation of the GOP pile-on to prevent a genuine conservative from acquiring a Senate seat? Bottom line : when the curtain closes, the Missourians will either pull the lever for McCaskill or Akin or not pull it at all. From what I hear verbalized from the conservative element in the area, they want McCaskill out, period. And a whole lot of them genuinely like Akin. I believe The Weekly Standard "doth protest too much".

Too bad for those who don’t like it. He’s staying in the race.

His numbers tanked far more because his “friends” in the Gop-E spent the last week hacking, slicing and dicing their own man.

His comment was not nearly as damning as challenged McCain on his famous white night ride to washington to save the nation from economic collapse, only to come out of a meeting naked, supporting a tarp-type response, and looking really, really stupid.

But, his party didn’t give up on him.

Let’s see...47-37. That won’t be the first come from behind from a 10 point deficit in the history of political races. Let’s see. Akin gaining five means McCaskill going down by five among the decideds, and there’s a measley 16% undecided or other still up for grabs.

Unfortunately, of course, the election is going to be held tomorrow in Missouri on the 27th of August this year. So, we’ll know the winner on Tuesday. Really sad they’re doing it that way this year instead of waiting the 2 and a quarter months left until the rest of the nation votes.

This is pretty dumb. Of course his numbers would be down, after having been pounded by everyone and his uncle in both parties for the past week.

Maybe conservatives should get their heads screwed back on and support him, since he’s the only candidate for the job that we have. And, aside from this kerfuffle, he is a good, solid 97% certified conservative.

We Conservatives are a strange lot. A small number of us insist that there is only standard for consideration to political office: absolute purity of word and heart to Conservative principles. No deviance from ideological purity is allowed.

All of this is well and good, we all want solid Conservatives to lead us out of this abyss and we are deeply suspicious of those who may appear to be going wobbly.

But, there is another measure that is of equal importance to the ideological metric: electability. If you can’t get elected, you are just another pure of heart Conservative loser. Conservatives have a bent for selecting such losers, election night ballrooms are drowned in the tears of the concession speeches.

In this political world, winning counts. Democrats understand this, and are willing to sacrifice everything else to achieve victory. Conservatives are not. We would rather be smug losers, congratulating ourselves that our candidate was no faint heart in the fight against the evil Left. Faint heart, perhaps not, but he was fatally wounded going over the top and the entire attack failed for lack of a leader who could both advance the Conservative cause and stand triumphant on the enemies’ parapet.

Akin died going over the top. Time for a new leader in the Missouri Senate race.

Wow it took Barnes forever to get on the throw Akins under the bus bandwagon. Glad he is the only politician to misspeak. He will recover if he uses this issue to his advantage.

Pray for America

Well this akin clown sure flushed out the anti GOP. At least the majority of Freepers understand that akin can never win another race and how much akin’s selfishness harms the Conservative cause.

I’d still like to think that the few posters here supporting the democrat by insisting akin stay in are actually democrat trolls instead of mental midgets.

No Conservative with a functioning brain thinks giving this seat to a democrat is the best move.

This “opinion poll” says, essentially, nothing.

What good is it to ask Republican voters in Missouri “whether or not they have a favorable opinion of” Todd Akin, or whether they think “he should drop out” of the race?

Would not a more pertinent question to Republicans be, “are you going to VOTE for Mr. Akin in November, or, vote for Ms. McCaskill?”

I looked for -those- numbers, and don’t see them anywhere above.

There are MANY people right here on FreeRepublic who don’t care much for Mitt Romney at all, but who WILL vote for him regardless, come November, because the option of not doing so will produce results that are considerably worse.

I sense that when it comes down to the brass tacks, most Missouri Republicans are in fact going to vote for Mr. Akin. And I wouldn’t be surprised if a fair number of independents do, as well.

It’s just too early to tell right now.
It will take at least two more polling cycles of “likely voters” before we see whether or not Mr. Akin stands a chance of recovering.

My advice to him would be to stop trying to “explain away” his faux pas, and attack McCaskill from every other direction.

I don’t believe this contest is over yet, not by a longshot.

How many right here on FreeRepublic were hollering and screaming that a Romney nomination would mean a certain loss to Obama in November?

Where are those people now?

Of course, Liberals like Fred Barnes and the Weakly Standard are going to go after pro-life conservatives.

Real conservatives do not pay any attention to the Liberal PhonyCon rantings of Barnes or the Weakly

And, it is so obvious now that the attacks are Akin are about his pro-life conservative stance, and not about the comment.

Its time for the Liberal GOP members to leave Akin alone..or go Democrat

THE SCOREBOARD:

47% of Republicans think he should drop out

50% of his self-described supporters think he should drop out

24% of Missouri voters (a poll of conservative groups) look at him favorably

57% of independents want him to drop out (25% say stay)

Yep, things are looking good for Todd in Missouri.
