EARLY, Texas -
During Sunday afternoon's shooting that left three dead at the Peach House RV Park in Early, Vic Stacy assisted officers in shooting alleged gunman Charles Conner.
Police said Conner shot and killed David Michael House, 58, and Iris Valentina Martinez Calaci, 53, over an argument the three reportedly had over the couple's two dogs. Conner, 58, was shot and was killed after also allegedly gunning down the couples dogs.
On Wednesday, Stacy recounted Sundays frightening events.
Stacy said he was enjoying a movie on what seemed to be a typical Sunday afternoon, when he heard gunshots outside. Moments later, Stacy received a phone call that turned him into what many would call a hero.
When Stacy answered a phone call from neighbor, he went into action.
"He said, 'You need to get over here quick, and bring your gun, I got a dead body laying over here in the road,' " Stacy said.
Stacy grabbed his .357 magnum and headed to his neighbors RV.
"I could see Charlie, the gunman, come out of his trailer, and he had a riffle in his hand with a scope on it," said Stacy.
As Stacy was positioning himself in front of Brown's RV, he could see Calaci's body lying in a pool of blood.
Early Police Sgt. Steven Means was the first on the scene, and Conner immediately began shooting at him, Stacy said.
After his neighbor asked him if he was going to shoot at Conner, Stacy recalled saying, I sure am when I get a good shot."
Stacy fired at Conner and hit him in the thigh, knocking Conner to the ground. Still alive, Conner fired another round back at him, Stacy said, noting he then fire four more rounds at Conner.
"The officer hit him, I think, in the shoulder one time and just barely grazed his rib cage, I think, on the left side," Stacy said.
Conner was no longer moving, Stacy said, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Brown County Sheriff Bobby Grubbs said the outcome could have been a lot different if Stacy hadnt had his gun and the presence of mind to do what he did Sunday afternoon.
I hope I would react the same, but it seems too many PDs all have the “shoot ‘em first and let God sort ‘em out later” mentality. Anyone holding a gun at a shooting becomes a target.
Anyone holding a gun at a shooting becomes a target.
A definite concern.
Glad to not be the only one feeling that way.
I think it was measured at over 150 yards. Pretty darn effective pistolero with that .357!
150 yards? Holy cow!
That, who confirmed the distance of the shot?
This article shows a vicious mad man shooting dogs. Who else shoots dogs?
I run into riffles all the time when I’m kayaking.
Must be flotsam from that tragic boating accident I had. I didn’t know they would float.

Flying bullets and tinfoil houses...bad combination.
If my fading memory serves correctly, one of the first licensed CDW holders in Kentucky used a .22 to shoot a guy who had just robbed a bank and was shooting at bystanders. The range was about 100 yards. Hit him in the neck and severed a carotid artery.
Heck,
This happened here in TX and I never heard of it.
On the .357, there was a post on FR a couple weeks ago from a medical examiner. He opined that the .357 was the number one effective weapon for certain death, in his opinion.
I wish I could find that link.
They only float in riffles. In calm water, they sink.
Do riffles have ridges?
Only center fire riffles have ridges. Rim fire riffels are ridgeless.

12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down ones life for ones friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command. 15 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his masters business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.

and see some morals and techniques to save your butt and the butt of others. Then pray your neighbors are men like Vic Stacy. I do.
Moral men (sheepdogs) must arise and defend in such situations, or stay on the couch with the other puppies.
No, but you have to buy tickets to get in the riffle drawing. 10 tickets for a buck.
I just watched the video which somebody forwarded to me by email. Great man!
