(CNN) The Republican mayor of San Diego has announced plans to air an ad advocating for same-sex marriage rights during next week's Republican National Convention in Tampa.
The spot, titled "Family and Freedom," comes after the Republican Party developed its official plank on gay marriage, which pushes for a federal constitutional amendment banning same-sex couples from marriage. The platform is expected to be officially confirmed at the convention next week.
The Human Rights Campaign and Freedom to Marry said they will run the spot from Monday through Thursday next week in a $30,000 television ad buy in the Tampa area market.
In the ad, Mayor Jerry Sanders speaks directly to the camera encouraging Republicans to support his stance on marriage equality while touting his conservative view of limited government.

“Gay marriage was invented AND
installed by Mr. RomneyCARE who also installed
the first death panels and socialized medicine.
This will be a tribute to the Romney Agenda.”
Conservatism is dead. PREPARE, and move to Texas.
You know someone has not one iota of faith when they used to profess they were all for NORMAL marriage (you know marriage that God intended) then one of their children comes out of the closet and all the sudden they throw the word of God under the bus and start promoting degenerate sodomite “marriage” to make their kid happy. Any real man of faith would tell their child that they need to get right with the Lord, that they were still their child, but no way in the world do they believe it’s normal for him/her to “marry” their sodomite friend. This mayor, Dick Cheney, or anyone else that claims they think there’s nothing wrong with this demented, abnormal behavior, needs open to open up the Bible and start reading it. A lack of faith is what it’s about and nothing else. Get right with the Lord now before it’s too late!!
Preince Priebus and GOP have shown their hypocrisy by relentlessly attacking Todd Akin, telling him to resign, but when the sex scandals of Sen. David Vitter & John Ensign (who actually broke the law) occurred they remained silent and did not ask them to resign. This proves this is about taking out a pro-life, conservative Christian.
Democratic National Committee chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz accused Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus of hypocrisy Sunday after he called for the resignation of Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY), while remaining silent on the sex scandals of Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) and Sen. John Ensign (R-NV).
What Reince is saying doesnt pass the straight-face test, from a chair of a party who none of its leaders called for Sen. Vitter, who actually broke the law, to resign, who is still serving office, Wasserman Schultz told NBCs David Gregory. [Vitter] hired prostitutes and evaded the truth. Chairman Priebus was chairman when Sen. Ensign was also embroiled in unethical, unacceptable, and probably illegal conduct, and he did not call for Sen. Ensign to resign.
But you never called for his resignation, so its a double standard, Wasserman Schultz charged. So, you only call for Democrats resignation, but not for Republicans, okay.
For her part, the Democratic chairwoman called on Weiner to resign after he admitted sending lewd pictures to several women and lying about it.
Sanders was a SUCK-A$$ as San Diego Police Chief too.
Agreed. Abortion-on-demand is just one of the sacrosanct tenets of a pagan lifestyle that we can no longer criticize with impunity. Gay coupling (and "parenting") has become another. And we have the GOP to thank for it--including Mitt Romney.
Conservative? Thats a joke.
Fixed it.
But wait! Didn’t anyone tell this RINO there’s a “truce” on social issues??????
Unintended consequences: we shall not vacation there. Cross off SAN for vacations.
Good for you. Sick of these RINOs.
More proof that the GOP Liberal attack on Todd Akin was for his pro-life stance, not his comments.
Roger that.
Same old same old.
