Saw this on Twitter.. But is true Neil Armstrong has died..
I was only nine when Neil Armstrong walked on the Moon. I had skipped a day of school as the telecast was on duing the day here in Australia. I was well aware that people from all around the world every race, religion and color was watching in amazement and awe. It was more of a feeling than a thought but I did feel like the world was one on that day like it had never been before and has bever been since.
I remember popping my head outside just before I went to bed that night, looking up to the sky and thinking to myself that there were people sleepng on the moon that night.
Mel
May he rest in peace.
Such high expectations.
Mr. Armstrong, in light of your service to & love for America, we bid you Godspeed, and wave goodbye as you slip the surly bonds of earth, to touch the face of God,
On the business end of the greatest achievement in human history. Godspeed, Neil Armstrong.
Lots of people flew the X-15. From the Wik:
“During the X-15 program, 13 different flights by eight pilots met the USAF spaceflight criterion by exceeding the altitude of 50 miles (80 km) thus qualifying the pilots for astronaut status. The USAF pilots qualified for USAF astronaut wings, while the civilian pilots were awarded NASA astronaut wings in 2005, 35 years after the last X-15 flight.”
Elsewhere it indicates that 12 different pilots had X-15 experience.
Godspeed Neil and may flights go Angels sign thee to thy rest!
I remember him taking his first steps. I was watching a TV in the airmen’s club in Clark Air Base.
I could only think that this will go down as my country’s most significant accomplishment in history.
We are now over forty years ahead of any other country in accomplishing this.
Godspeed Neil Armstrong..
R.I.P.
Rest in peace Neil Armstrong, High Flight is now yours forever.
Prayers.
Godspeed great man and incredible pioneer. There will never be another like you. My father’s going to be very sad about this—he and Neil were in the same flight squadron.
RIP Neil Armstrong. At times it feels like an era is passing. May we continue to be a spacefaring nation.
Let me correct my post- Godspeed Neil and may flights of Angels sing thee to thy rest!
We are a greatful nation for your service, and what you and many other Americans who believed in American Exceptionalism did to get us on the Moon, no other nation has done it....
And yeswe built that, often lowest bidder but the private sector built it...
Does anyone here remember the Aviation Show he did on Warbirds in the mid 90's on I think Discovery or the History Channel?
I could say a lot here, because moments like this cause reflection, an assessment of what has just passed, and what our future looks like.
Instead I’ll just say that I’ll never forget what Neil Armstrong did for all of us. It seems like there couldn’t have been a better man to do it.
I have a lot of respect for Armstrong, and the space program of the day that put him on the Moon, and brought him back.
I have some real problems with Kennedy, but this project is one thing I’ll always appreciate that he supported.
He was a giant among men. His inspiration will last many generations.
Had to happen soon, sad to see the day
I remember watching television upside down to see him on the moon
