New York (CNN) -- All nine people injured in Friday's shooting in front of the Empire State Building were wounded by police gunfire, New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly told reporters Saturday.
The officers unloaded a total of 16 rounds at a disgruntled former apparel designer, killing him after he shot and killed a co-worker and engaged in a gunbattle with police, authorities have said.
Police said an investigation is under way after one officer shot nine rounds while another shot seven. Three victims suffered gunshot wounds, while the remaining six were hit by fragments.
The gunman, who served in the U.S. Coast Guard in the late 1970s, had two rounds left in his .45-caliber pistol. It holds eight rounds, Kelly said.
The violence erupted Friday morning just as visitors began to queue up to ascend the famous New York skyscraper in one of Manhattan's busiest neighborhoods.

Collateral damage w/ HPs would probably be even more ‘messy’ and not a ‘clean’ as FMJs. Just a guess.
“So tell me, what is it like?”
Pls cc me on that one, will ya?

I remember that from a short while ago. Idiotic, bumbling feral-scum 0bummer boys.
So why didn't they have their weapons drawn in such a dire situation?
Incidentally, all the folks here who have been calling for armed theater patrons who would have risen up and started blasting the Aurora killer...youd have a lot more dead.
And you know this how?
Internet Cafe Customer Shoots 2 Robbers In Florida
At least there has been some improvement by the NYPD.
They only used 16 rounds instead of 70 some-odd or was that another city?
It’s hard to keep up with all the goings on nowadays.
Good for you. To be able to laugh at own mistakes as you have yours is a sign there is still hope.
Stay strong.
Read the article again.
The perp was hit three times not seven.
Also from the article:
“The police commissioner said the suspect pulled his gun out of his briefcase as the officers approached, pointing at them. “
Doesn’t sound like “an Aurora-style killing.” In fact it was a premeditated homicide where the perp killed his intended victim and was walking away. It was the police who turned it into Aurora redux.
Triggernometry! somebody has to repeat the class because that many misses is a failing grade. It would be good to get Bloomberg in the same class since he misses every time he shoots his mouth off.
yeah, that is ridiculous. Where is the calm one to two shot accuracy? Jeeze, these guys are police, not regular professionals!
Mine is a Springfield XD 45 cal, and it too absorbs the recoil, with some movement back towards my body, then right back on target for the double tap. And I especially like the magazine...13+1.
It’s time to put some flares and cones around your comments.
Take care.

Check out the video on the other thread. The officer in the upper left isn’t shooting at the perp. Looks like he has chosen the wrong target.
Anyone else think this?
He came around the corner, chased by two construction workers, turned around and pulled his gun on the police. I’m sure, if it had not jammed, he would have killed as many people as he could have. He was angry and he was trying to do suicide by cop (and later reports have said that he was hit seven times).
You sound like you’re in the “but why couldn’t they shoot the gun out of his hand” crowd.
Whenever there’s firing in a crowd, people other than the intended victim are going to get hurt. Guns aren’t magic.
On response to my earlier post, I now think I am wrong. After the weapon is done being fired it does appear that the officer was definitely hitting the perp.
I second the motion. These things must be treated with magic pixie dust before leaving the factory.
Despite a higher bore axis, XDs consistently gave me more accurate "double taps" than any of my Glocks. So much so, that I immediately traded off three different Glocks for equivalent Springfields.
