Report: State Dept. Considers Eliminating US Nuclear Arsenal

Although President Obama's current defense cuts are so drastic that even Rep. Nancy Pelosi is scared they might cost Democrats more seats in the House, State Dept. advisers are reportedly encouraging further cuts and even the all-out elimination of the U.S. nuclear arsenal.
A State Dept. report addressing this issue justifies the suggestion on the grounds that possessing nuclear weapons drives other nations to "acquisition and/or use of nuclear weapons."
In other words, as long as nations like the U.S., Israel, and Russia have nukes but rogue nations like Iran and North Korea don't Iran and North Korea will continually pursue them with a willingness to use them. Yet if we get rid of ours, they will stop the pursuit of theirs... and everybody can hug and get along, naturally.
Explaining away Iran's nuclear ambitions by saying they only want such weapons because we have them is childish and irrational.

Maybe that silly remake of the classic Red Dawn, where the North Koreans invade America might come true after all.

I believe you are right, but there is another factor to consider. The most significant capability of nuclear weapons is deterrance. The deterrant effect of nuclear weapons was unquestionably established in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The deterrant effect of micro-drones and death rays remains theoretical. To go one step further, the modern superweapon must in addition to establishing deterrance also be capable of neutralizing a nuclear threat. It does no good to be able to mske somebody's head explode with the push of a button if doing so trips a dead-man switch that launches his ICBMs.
Now if I knew that we had an operational Thor system in orbit, I'd gladly sell our nukes for a dollar a megaton to the craziest-looking buyer I could fnd in a third-world gutter. But I doubt that we do.

"Actually, until they can disarm the populace, America remains one of the safest places on the planet."
Until Obama starts using that billion rounds of hollow point ammunition he just bought.

Maybe we could sell them on the international market to help fund alternative energy start-ups. What could go wrong?

“We have got to get the communist morons out of government.”
That’s been a great slogan since the State Department’s creation of the UN back in ‘45.
Unfortunately, Hiss’s commie heirs are still running the joint.
“Jesus H. Christ”, as you say.

Well folks, I’m praying for 0bama.
Praying that Almighty God lights up his muslim ass with a major league lightning bolt, leaving him a crispy critter.
Only someone who truly hates America would vote for 0bama and/or refuse to vote for his opponent. All the purists pontificating and gnashing their teeth about Romney ought to give their heads a shake and imagine a disarmed NON-nuclear America if that filthy Kenyan Communist is re-elected to another term.

Disarming maybe a requisite of settling the nations debts.
These people are working on a new world order where nukes would not be needed because their goal is to have no nations.
The only thing that defines a nation are boarders. That is why this administration refuses to recognize that this country has any boarders. In fact, this administration doesn't recognize state boarders.
The only safe way to destroy the worlds nukes would be to detonate them all in the same area, somewhere with alot of sand and desert.
We currently pump oil with robotics at extreme depths, it would not be a big challenge to design robotic systems to pump oil from a highly radioactive area.

If this is not evidence that State Department and much of the Federal Government has been infiltrated and taken over by agents of enemy powers, I don’t know what is.
We need a purge. Preferably one that involves prisons and waterboarding.

Naaa, just trade them to the drug cartels in exchange for lots of “good stuff”. That way everyone in the USA could be so stoned that no one would care when mushroom clouds started sprouting everywhere.

The genie cannot be put back into the bottle
This is the same reason gun control can't and won't work.
The science/information is out there - it only takes the will to use it and you have your weapon of choice.
Granted, building a fission device is a little harder than putting together a zip gun, but if you have the nefarious intent and the resources, and it gives you an advantage over those you seek to dominate, then you will find a way to build one.
Given that, the only rational solution is for the "good guys" to be better armed before the "bad guys" can build their own versions. Equally applies to guns and nukes.
