.......On CNN, TimStanley noted the potential strength that the[Chick-fil-A]protest foreshadowed and wondered that "something more complex is taking place: Economics and culture are becoming synonymous."
Might a large swath of the population believe that those two ideas are more than "becoming synonymous" -- that culture actually lays the very foundation of the economy? In the masterpiece Witness,WhittakerChambers, the inspiration for many great conservative thinkers including RonaldReagan, penned the famous quote: "Economics is not the central problem of this century. It is a relative problem that can be solved in relative ways. Faith is the central problem of this age."
The GOP party line contends that our economic house must be put in order first, leaving the social issues that make up our moral house as a secondary priority. Some within the party wish to put the moral house in order first. And many of the rest of us don't understand why there are separate houses to begin with -- rather rooms within the same house that can be addressed simultaneously.....
.....It seems that the Romney campaign, based on its lack of a response to the Chick-fil-A protest and now on the call for Akin to step down, is banking on the unwavering support of religious conservatives -- a support unswayed no matter how far the campaign bends backwards to avoid offending socially liberal constituents who might be persuaded to cast a vote its way. The focus is the economy and the undecided, independent, or unmotivated voters -- the "knuckleheads" who apparently have been living in a twilight zone, unable to see the disastrous economic cliff that lies ahead.
.........TimStanley offered this advice: "If MittRomney can effectively establish the link between economics and culture, and then motivate conservatives to turn out in big numbers, then the Chick-fil-A moment could prove prophetic."....

The “legitimate rape” and “a woman’s body” wording by Atkins was his “Gov. Rick Perry Oops” moment and we’re all dealing with the fall out.
Author seems to make the assumption that Akin is a “religious conservative” when his behavior indicates the exact opposite.
He is a religious conservative and the REAL deal. I really wish Freepers on this board new more about this man than they profess. I am SICK and TIRED of the GOPe dictating who our canidate will be and the GOPe is GUILTY of giving this to McKatKiller by them spouting off their mouths in the press. The GOPe has a serious foot and mouth disease and should SHUT UP.
If akin had any spiritual enlightenment he would accept that his words are irreversible and step down for the good of the party.
His actions are those of a selfish and boorish person.
This isnt about Akin.
This is about 0bummer&TheRegimeFrom Hell.
Ignore the shiny things from the lib-dem-controlled media.
Keep focused on WINNING AT ALL COSTS ON NOV 6TH!
Nothing else counts.
Everything is at stake. Everything.
“was his Gov. Rick Perry Oops moment”
The difference is Perry was man enough to realize his mistake was fatal and did the logical thing and quit the race. Akin can not get past his ego.
Indeed. An actual Christian would put the good of the nation ahead of his own ego.
It would seem he’s allowing the baby to be cut in half.
If Harry Reid-Democrats control the U.S. Senate going into 2013......what has been gained?
Joined up on Aug 15th, 2012. Hmmmmm....
Glad to have Inconvenient Truthteller here. The comment about Akin was spot on.
I cannot defend a political hack like Akins anymore than I can defend an elitist snob like Romney whose daddy was a Mexican national who felt entitled to run for the Presidency albeit ILLEGALLY.
Akin’s the Missouri Senatorial candidate. He says he’s not leaving. No one can force him to leave the race. Money is coming in to him from social conservatives. Huckabee, Schlafly, Bauer, and others have come to his side.
As of this moment in time, Akin made a single comment that some take exception to, and even that comment was designed to elicit support for the pro-life position.
I have no problem personally with the word legitimate, because I looked it up and one of its meanings is:
“: being exactly as purposed : neither spurious nor false -a legitimate grievance -a legitimate practitioner “
It was a poor choice of words but I get it and I also know that his was a pro life statement. That’s all I need to know.
The democrats are always trying to create a controversy.
Here in Michigan they’re screeching because Pete Hoekstra said he’d like to see the 17th amendment overturned. Former students of kerry bentivolio are claiming they feared him when he was their high school teacher.
Did you read the entire article?
It really addresses all the anti-Akin questions.
It dances around the offensive rape comments by akin and calls them “clumsy”. You never preach to a rape victim or make up gynecological nonsense in its aftermath. I won’t bother to repeat how the democrats are playing akin like a fiddle.
He is hurting the GOP up and down the ticket and must step down.
You didn’t read the article because you have the facts wrong.
You are doing Obama’s work for him.
There is no point in arguing with someone that does not understand why akin has to go.
And no, the mental giants arguing for akin to stay are doing exactly what 0bama and his little witch want done.
Political Correctness is cultural Marxism. Marxism translated from economic into cultural terms.
Obamas Democratic support in the state remains largely unchanged at 96%, and voters not affiliated with either major party still favor Romney by 20 points. But Republican support in Missouri for the partys likely nominee has fallen from 94% in late July to 85% now,
It would be best if the Conservative/GOP movement quit obsessing about Akin, you are cutting your own throats.
Conservatives are fracturing their own base in MO for NO reason. Get back on message! Quit falling for the Democrat propaganda machines tactics of diversion and distraction.
Even without Akin the GOP looks to pick up 4-8 Senate seats. All conservative and.or GOP activists are doing here is shooting their own side in the foot! Time to get quit responding to the Democrat propaganda machines every ploy and get back on message!
