A judge has the right to order an Army psychiatrist charged in the 2009 Fort Hood shooting rampage to be forcibly shaved of his beard before his murder trial, military attorneys told an appeals court Wednesday.
The attorneys, in a document filed on behalf of Col. Gregory Gross, contend that forcibly shaving Maj. Nidal Hasan would not violate the American-born Muslim's religious freedoms and said it is similar to "and no more invasive than" a judge's right to restrain a defendant who is disruptive during a court-martial.

The beard is a symbol that says the accused is not in the United States Army and is in fact an Islamic radical unjustly being put on trial. The growing of the beard is a display of disdain for the military and to the oath the officer swore on joining.
The officer on trial must be present in proper uniform and acting in the manner of an officer and a gentleman.
I agree wholeheartedly, but let's get this going. Shave him and haul him into court instead of an endless delay. Where was his beard before the shooting? This is all political theater on his part to gain publicity.
I don’t get the BFD about all this....as far as I know, the man is still an active duty member of the US Army, and beards are NOT allowed. Period.
If the judge allows the active duty service member to appear in his court NOT in accordance with the military standards that would be allowing Hasan to give the big middle finger to the Army. Muslims in the Army do NOT have a separate dress/appearance code.
End of story.

After shaving him they should also use permanent laser hair removal over his entire beard area. Since they may have to sedate him to shave him, this would be an added bonus.
And then, after he is back in court clean shaven, the judge can order him to not grow his beard back, and his chin will obey the court order, despite his best efforts to not shave.
Use an epilator.
I recommend Napalm shaving cream and a Bic lighter.

afterall, mo-ham-head hasan was a military officer at the moment he went jihadi, and was probably clean shaved, willingly so, at that moment, which didnt interfere with his *religion* up to that point...

Laser him so that he CAN’T grow a beard any more. Fixes the issue and screws with his Moslem-ness (Moslems are supposed to have “neatly trimmed beards” to distinguish themselves from “Franks” and Jews.)
