A German rabbi has been criminally charged for performing a circumcision, committing what the indictment calls "bodily harm," media outlets reported on Tuesday. The charges against David Goldberg, who is a mohel and the Rabbi of the city of Hof Saale in Bavaria, is the first known case following the anti-circumcision ruling issued by a German court in May.According to media reports, the charges were filed by a physician from the city of Hessen, and was based on the court ruling which stated that performing a religious circumcision ritual can be considered a crime. A Bavarian radio station reported that the doctor was among the signatories of a letter sent to Angela Merkel, which claimed that "religion should not be allowed to permit harming of the helpless."

By the civil code, this case agains the mohel won't stand.
The German government will stop this case from moving forward.
The German case that came before the court in Cologne involved a Muslim family. The parents, observant Muslims, arranged to have their four-year-old son circumcised. After the procedure, the boy suffered some post-operative bleeding, and a local prosecutor pressed charges against the doctor who had performed the circumcision. The trial court dismissed the charges, but the appellate court reversed the dismissal on appeal. After weighing the family’s religious freedom against the child’s interest in bodily integrity, the appellate judges determined that non-therapeutic circumcision of children inflicts bodily harm and impermissibly violates the child’s bodily integrity as well as his interest in deciding, later in life, to which religion he wishes to belong.Note again that this is purely about male circumcision -- which is common to both Jews and Moslems. This is not about female c which we all oppose, but about male c which we all think should be allowed. The German court is going by a coldly logical view that the child has no say in this irreversible physical change done to its body.

That’s not fair, TTR — apolitical has not mentioned anything about size. He just said that he doesn’t like the fact that he was not asked. We may disagree with him on infant circumcision (I believe that it is a law put down by God on Jews and they MUST follow it and they should be allowed to do this God-given duty), but he has a right to voice his opinion and we can disagree and debate with him civilly.
No, and this isn’t Germany wide, just in the particular jurisdiction of one specific court.
It prohibits up until a certain age where the child can determine that for itself.

Its definitely not a mainstream practice, its done by a small minority of very Orthodox Jews. Its called “metzitzah b’peh”
