The Democratic National Committee has informed a Connecticut town it will not be reimbursed for the thousands of dollars the city spent on costs for President Obama's fundraising visit earlier this month.
Gordon Joseloff, the first selectman of Westport, says he was informed this week the town's request to have the DNC and Obama for America cover the $14,812 the city paid in police and fire overtime was denied.
The president traveled to the area on Aug. 6 to attend a fundraiser in Stamford and a $35,800 per person dinner at the Westport home of movie producer Harvey Weinstein.
Local officials even shut down two popular public beaches to accommodate the president. They closed the 238-acre Sherwood Island State Park so the president's helicopter could land, and also closed the roughly two-acre Burying Hill Beach -- adjacent to Weinstein's mansion.
The New Haven Register reports that an executive of the Democratic National Committee wrote that as a private organization it did not participate in security, traffic control, fire or emergency planning. She referred questions to the Secret Service.

Hope and Change and Arrogance
SUCKERS !
I am looking forward to the first time a town or city refuses to provide police/fire escorts to the DNC and their candidates, (Obama), because they are deadbeats.
Is this the same or a different town from the one he refused to pay for any of the security when he was there?
A few weeks ago he also left his lunch bill for some soldiers to pick up.
The town should add the DNC to their list of deadbeats and refer the matter to the CT AG for prosecution.
Unlike Ryan who paid for someone elses tab a week or so ago.
For those not from CT, Westport is largely a home for the 1%, largely socially liberal Republicans and a fair number of Dems. They are actually likely to like Romney just fine.
There are some exceptions. Marlo and Phil Thomas live there.
Phil Thomas?
bttt
Dims are worse than wimpy...
Wimpy: I’ll gladly pay you wednesday for a Hamburger today...
Dimpy: I’ll gladly use someone else’s monay to pay you with tomorrow for a “free hamburger” today...
Dims are such cheap asses, because they never think THEY should pay they always think “someone else” should always pay...
Not to mention that there’s a 9/11 memorial a stones throw away from here. No shock that he didn’t visit. Westport lost a lot of good people that day.
“The town should add the DNC to their list of deadbeats and refer the matter to the CT AG for prosecution”
The CT AG used to be Dick Blumenthal. I’m sure the new one has no inclination whatsoever to prosecute a Dem for anything.
No sympathy. When dealing with shady folks you get the money up front. No credit.
All the Emperor had to do was to split his take from one attendee with the city to cover the overtime costs.
Each attendee paid $ 35,000 to eat with the Emperor. If the Emperor had split the “donation” of one of the attendees the city would have gotten $ 17,500 more than enough to cover the $ 14,000 and change overtime costs etc.
But then when have you ever heard of any Emperor splitting money “donated” to him with any one?
If you are asking why I now call Obama the Emperor, look at his actions since January 2009 and compare them to any of the classical Emperors in history. Is there really a significant difference?
Before yesterday’s visit, Obama had already cost the Nevada Highway Patrol & Washoe County Sheriff’s & Reno police department more than $350,000 in security costs.
They billed Obama’s campaign.
The answer?
“You should be proud & patriotic in supporting the President of the USA. You will not be collecting a single dime. It is your DUTY.”
Yesterday, traffic on 2 major highways—Interstate 80 & US 395 were bottled up for more than an hour each both coming from & going back to the Reno airport. The return to the airport was in the middle of rush hour.
Not a single dime of extra Presidential Security costs are pre-budgeted by any county or city.
Word is out that Obama will be back in Reno for trip # 4 #5 before November.
Just what they need!!!
