Shortly after it was announced that Rep. Paul Ryan would join the Romney ticket as this year's Republican vice presidential candidate, I wrote a piece titled, "What We Know About Paul Ryan and Blacks."
Well, I recently learned of another significant addition to this list.
As reported on Twitter by CNN's Pete Hamby, Ryan said he has a black sister-in-law, but perhaps even more interesting, his "college sweetheart" was African American.
So here is the million-dollar question: Is the fact that Ryan has dated interracially a noteworthy detail to consider when analyzing his politics and policies?

So, if every black person in America married a white person, would all the remaining white people be racist - or just not fast enough!
The race of his dates matter not.
However, if he had the audacity to date a liberal....Katie, bar the door. We’ll have to check his system for the dreaded “progressive disease” which ends with an Obama-like brain (or more precisely, a brain which does not function.)
It’s not an issue but Obama’s made up girlfriend in New York should have been.
Bingo!
So, if every black person in America married a white person, would all the remaining white people be racist - or just not fast enough!
OH NOOOOOOO.....! (Gasp!)
One thing the left just can’t understand is that conservatives just don’t give a damn about the whole race thing.
Behave like a civilized person and I won’t notice what color ya are...
Agreed. It is impossible for a Republican to demonstrate that he is not racist. Cannot be done.
It only matters if you’re a progressive, otherwise, you don’t care either way.
Bingo!
I'll bet Ryan didn't see it as political. He saw an attractive women he wanted to know and took her out on a date... Liberals are sooooooo obsessed with race.
Yeah, well... But you sure didn't beat us to that awful battle cry. Your silly "Hooyah!" or "Hoowah!" - or whatever it is - was shamelessly copied from our silly-but-original "Oorah!" I guess there are some things that are just right, regardless of who thunk it first. Semper Fidelis... -AAM
No bearing on anything at all.
They broke up when the boyfriend realized that he could not take “0” home to meet his parents.
In asking if Ryan’s black sweetheart should matter, was the author trolling for racism in conservative responses to his question, or was he telling us that he would never expect that white conservatives would do such a thing?
In asking the question, what is “black”, I find out how often people who claim to be so racial sensitive reveal stunningly racist assumptions. Indeed, Nobel Prize winning poet Tony Morrison wrote in an October 1988 New Yorker article titled “Clinton as the first black president”. If so, then what is “black”?
When Bill Maher, during a panel discussion on HBO complains that Obama’s policies are “half-assed” “because hes only half black.” and that “if he was fully black, Im telling you, he would be a better president.”, and that “there’s a white man in him holding him back”, than what is “black”?
And when someone opposes polices of the Obama Administration, they are called “racist”, then what is racism other than opposition to a black president because he is black. Such reasoning demands that the policies in question are a result of the way blacks think and evaluate facts and formulate policy. Moreover, these are policies that liberals support exposing the belief that black = liberal. Well, it goes a bit deeper than than, actually over to the back side of the coin.
In the upside down, inside out turmoil and chaos of the liberal mind, the assumption is that “people of color” think differently than people not “of color”. In short, liberals think that everyone who is not Caucasian, male, and middle class thinks differently than people who are. Thus the emphasis on and preference for “people of color”.
So, in this long, round-about manner we can see how a liberal reporter would make an issue of Paul Ryan having a girlfriend who is black. In the reporter’s world, such a thing would be impossible. And such racist assumptions permeate the thinking of many liberals.
No, but nice try at diversion. How about you Obots stop trying to distract and demagogue and try sticking to the issues?
Semper Fi
well, he is NOT racist.
