Missouri Republican Senate candidate Todd Akin's advisers are making preparations to withdraw from the race Tuesday, GOP operative Richard Grenell and RedState.com editor Erick Erickson report. Grenell cited "GOP sources" in his tweet announcing the withdrawal, which has yet to be confirmed by Akin. Akin has been under fire since saying women have biological defenses to fend off pregnancy after a "legitimate rape."

If Akin is forced to withdraw I WILL vote for Claire McCaskil in November.

You're joking, right?

I’m thinking Kit Bond or Ann Wagner would be the most likely, in that order. Talent, third.

Bond has retired and will stay that way.
Talent ? Loser.

This, the Sea of Galilee thing, even the Biden chains things, is not worth a second of thought from anyone. Until there is total focus on the Debt, the Federal Reserve, 0bamacare, the Jan 2013 Fiscal Cliff, and abuses of power, we will continue speeding to 3rd World status or worse.

Oh yah, I’ll vote for Akin too, but it’d sure be nice to vote for someone you don’t have to defend for sounding so, so, neanderthal about social issues. No longer is the focus on the bitch-witch McCaskill who sings Obama’s praises, it on the dweeb Akin...

What do you think of this? Ann Wagner becomes the Senate candidate, thus neutralizing the gender issue. Jim Talent—who probably would have a job in the Romney administration, otherwise—runs for his old House seat (which then went to Akin), in this relatively safe congressional district. I do think they might be able to lure Kit Bond out of retirement, though. He’s been the most consistent winner in statewide races.

Hell, I’d vote for a coprophagus cur over Ma McCaskill!

The head of the Republican Senate Election Committee just said to him"You need to do what's best for yourself, your family, your values and the country"

IOW, resign or you won't be getting one damn dime from the Republican Party. Good for him

Wonder if Steelman vs. Brunner thingy will explode if one gets the nod over the other? And only one can get the nod. FOOD FIGHT! Just what Republicans need!

I just can't believe this is happening. Jaco tossed Akin a grenade and he dropped it...

Why do some conservative candidates get so sidetracked instead of focusing on the issues that most conservatives care about?

Because they are career politicians and have trouble knowing when to shut up.

The democrats are having a field day with this, asking for the definitions of legitimate and illegitimate rape. Dumb as hell, and liable to hurt the GOP in the national election, regardless of how fast Romney distanced himself.

The replacement should be one of those who actually ran this election cycle (Brunner or Steelman)...not cherry-picking other people.

This was all just too convenient for my tastes.

I think Todd needs to quit apologizing and shut up about it. I don’t blame the Democrats for making hay while the sun shines - that’s politics - but the Republicans need to stop eating their own. This thing is only 24 hours old. Everyone needs to take a chill pill.

Bond looked and sounded very tire of the Washington experience when he announced his retirement.
Yes, he’s been a winner but he deserves to bow out as a winner.

The national GOP’s mistake has been constantly reaching back for retreads. Are there no younger, brighter stars coming up in the Show Me ?

Todd is my congressman, and I voted for him in the primary. That said, he is history. The national party will not give him a nickel.

He needs to face the fact that he screwed up and must withdraw. We need to get rid of McCaskill.

We need to get rid of McCaskill.

By yelling "How high?" when the Democrats say, "Jump"? Yeah, that'll work.

It’s not just the democrats, but republicans of all stripes.

This election is bigger than just one man.

This wasn’t some sound byte drudged up out of context. This was a Sunday interview where he tried to be a world expert on abortion and ended up making a fool of himself. My wife watched the full uncut interview, said she was sorry she voted for him and said he would never get her vote == he is just too damn stupid.
