"As studies reported by the National Center for the Prevention and Control of Rape indicate, women rarely become pregnant as a result of rape, but it does happen."

Bottom line, what he said was brain-dead stupid, and he has to go.
Excuse me , but I do try at all times to let God guide me.The candidate has already explained himself in entirety. Let the libs choke on the Truth; why even participate in the fight? Do you think it's possible that Christ Himself allowed this flub by Akin, in part to get Romney out in the open with his (today's) stance on pro-life/choice? Mitt also skewered Ryan today by evidently convincing him he's now pro-abort on cases of rape. This is not good either. In fact, it's tragic, and I can only imagine a sobbing (and possibly ticked-off) Jesus.
Akin did this to himself and no I am not inclined to defend him. I can imagine Christ weeping though if Obama and the Godless dems win in November. Now that will really set the pro life movement back not to mention putting the final nail in our republic.
I can imagine Christ weeping though if Obama and the Godless dems win in November. You don't have to "defend" Akin. He made an error in speaking, but I'd hate to think all the people punishing him also punish their children as harshly when they misspeak. Anyway, I agree, of course Jesus would be weeping (regarding an Obama-win), but Christ has already been sobbing for forty years in this regard, and He'll be no happier with Romney. We are in a pickle; what we can do is stand up for the children with all our might and prayers, and believe (trust) that Christ will do the rest.

“Finally, factor in what is certainly one of the most important reasons why a rape victim rarely gets pregnant, and that’s physical trauma. Every woman is aware that stress and emotional factors can alter her menstrual cycle. To get and stay pregnant a woman’s body must produce a very sophisticated mix of hormones. Hormone production is controlled by a part of the brain that is easily influenced by emotions. There’s no greater emotional trauma that can be experienced by a woman than an assault rape. This can radically upset her possibility of ovulation, fertilization, implantation and even nurturing of a pregnancy. So what further percentage reduction in pregnancy will this cause? No one knows, but this factor certainly cuts this last figure by at least 50 percent and probably more”
>>>I’ve had “unprotected” consensual sex hundreds of times and only instigated 5 children.
So I would say that “it is rare that women become pregnant from unprotected sex” but it does happen.<<<
As a mother of three (soon to be four) I can agree with this.
I can appreciate your opinion on this and I do feel sorry for the man in a way but he still needs to leave the race. I just listened to him on Hannity and I was not impressed at all. He sounded like a bumbling fool. If you think he was giving a full throated defense of the pro life movement , he failed miserably. He was doing nothing but back peddling and digging the hole even deeper. He even ducked the central questions. There are others in Missouri that can do much better.
A real newz junkey would have read that abstract instead of cutting and pasting it...I read the damn thing when Malkin linked it.
Did you notice, “news junkey” that it didn’t differentiate between rapes that were violent, so called “date” rapes, statuatory rapes, and rapes that could also be otherwise non-consensual sex but still non-violent?
I never saw that. So you’re comparing apples to oranges. I posted an excerpt elsewhere from a book about rape—and when the author, a pro-abortion director of a sexual assault center, speaks about pregnancy being rare in rape it is about VIOLENT rape, which was what the good Congressman was apparently referring to in his 38 second sound bite.
Come on people, get a clue. This guy is a staunch, strong conservative. At worst he made a gaffe...and you’re all so damn anxious to fire him over it.
Good thing none of you were fighting the Germans and the Japanese during WW2...you would’ve bent over crying the first time you ever heard General Patton speak.
Do you live in Missouri?
So the Pubbie establishment says. Sad that so many FReepers who claim to be supportive of the tea party are ready to jump on the establishment bandwagon. I suspect many are doing so because the candidate endorsed by Sarah Palin didn't win.
Lol..Sarah’s pick would have done better. No doubt about it now.
So you're saying stress does not affect the ability to conceive? Interesting.
It is a good thing that Akin wasn’t fighting the Germans and Japanese in wW2 or we might have lost. I understand your points, but after just hearing the man on Hannity, it was painfully clear that he is not the brightest bulb in the drawer. Certainly there are other staunch and more eloquent conservatives that can step up to the plate.
I live in Missouri and I will tell you what you obviously do not know. Claire is as liberal as Obama.... but, she has spent the past year attempting to distance herself far far from his destroy America fast and furiously.
We just had a primary, and it was close election among the top three. Akin got the majority, Brummer second, and Steelman a very close third.
We in Missouri do NOT do 'legitimate rape' under any circumstances, except for single issue voters. We do not consider it a topic of conversation to attempt to 'explain' say like 'compassionate' conservative.
This state is majority rural with the exceptions of St. Louis, Kansas City, and Columbia a college town full of the liberal ilk.
Missouri is filled with common sense peoples, yet there are cocoons of single issues peoples from all walks of life.
Agriculture is prime in this state and we have endured a life threatening drought these past many months, and the very last thing on our minds is to hear a MAN put forth a notion that a woman can prevent an unwanted pregnancy from a legitimate RAPE.
Most of us in this state want Claire to go back to running her nursing home empire.... Guess what that means.... pills for old Missouri grandmas instead of procedures. We do NOT want the campaign hijacked over some single issue voter that has NO clue of the world outside of his own single issue..... See now those coveted moderates vote and they will flee the GOP because of the heaps of ridicule they will hear every thirty minutes on the tube or the radio about 'legitimate rape'.
I do not care how 'good' a man Akin literally is, he is NOT running for a deacon ship, he needs those out of work, hauling water for their cattle voters.
Akin didn't bring it up. He answered a direct question. Now, you may have preferred him to answer a different way, but he did not do or say anything that is cause for him to be kicked to the curb by conservatives.
Akin is more conservative than Brunner or Steelman. Frankly, if so-called conservatives would stop jumping on the bandwagon out of sour grapes (because Steelman didn't win after Palin endorsed her) or out of panic, this would die a quick death.
Except she came in third, not second.
You are absolutely correct, but the surrender monkeys are off and running. No stopping them now. I also believe if it had been Ms. Palin’s pick they’d all be singing a different tune.
Who is feeding you your talking points. Right offffff the bat to a question Akin did in fact use the phrase 'legitimate rape'.
I did NOT have a single candidate that I would only and alone support no matter what on primary day.... and if this foot in his mouth cannot see the cloud formation he has seeded and stays in the campaign I will vote for him.
You seem to be the one fixated on Sarah Palin, this is the first time I have typed her name regarding this uneducated candidate for Missouri Senate.
It would not automatically bar it. Were that so, there would be zero pregnancies as a result of rape.
Nit entirely; elsewise it wouldn't be not uncommon for couples wanting to get pregnant yet never being able to, then deciding to adopt, suddenly get pregnant. {Theory: it's because the pressure is off.}
If it's possible that a simple stress from desiring it could make it difficult, then it is not particularly a big jump to say that something traumatic like rape also could.
