American civilians are buying as many AK47s from Russia's top armory as the Russian military and police.
The surge in sales of Russian assault rifles and shotguns are fuelled by firearms enthusiasts who are paranoid about the weapons being banned in the United States.
The semiautomatic weapons, fitted with high-capacity magazines, are manufactured at Izhevsk Machinebuilding Plant, Russia's primary small arms factory.
They are built alongside the fully-automatic military versions that are used by armies, militias and terrorists around the world.
In the United States, they have become immensely popular. Among hunters, recreational shooters and survivalists, they are known for being extremely reliable and relatively inexpensive -- and they fire powerful ammunition that is cheap and plentiful.

That is true.
They do not distinguish between assault rifles like the AK, AKM, AK-74 and the semi-automatic rifles that are sold in the USA.
Like the 74. Been thinking about purchasing a couple more to lose in the lake. Ammo real cheap too. Ladies can control these a whole lot better than the 47s.
Found some 154gr soft point 7.62 x 39 for my 47s that I lost. These were nice rounds and were savage on pigs and stuff.

The rifle is relatively inaccurate and limited in range compared to other military style rifles.
Yes the ammo is cheap but loaded in steel cases which makes keeping your ammo stock dry especially critical. If you plan on reloading your ammo this rifle is likely not your first choice unless you plan on buying new brass from the start.
The idiots cannot even see the difference between the selective-fire AKs sold to government agancies and the semi-auto AKs being sold to civilians. The guns look alike to the untrained eye, but they are not similar in capability.
But the sheep will not notice.

Revolver in .357 and a companion carbine. My personal preferences are S&W 686 or equivalent and the Winchester saddle-stock, lever-action carbine in .357 with enlarged ring lever for gloved hands.
Then buy lots of .38 spl +P JHP ammo for them. Less expensive and easier to find than .357, and just about as good.
To the media, they are all "AK-47". I like to call the civilian gaggle of semi-automatic rifles "AK style" rifles. By convention, sellers call the rifles after the rifle they're patterned on, or from the donor kit, but they usually have their own model numbers.
For instance, the Hungarian AMD-65 is an AKM-based, short barrelled, select fire (selector has "safe", "auto", and "semi" settings) paratrooper assault rifle. The U.S. Army probably has a few in their museum, and if there are any legal civilian held ones in this country, it would only be a handful.
My "AMD-65" is actually a model "IAI-65". It looks like the original, but is longer barrelled to meet federal standards, and semi-auto only. Everyone still calls it an "AMD-65"
The media would call it an AK-47.
The only “AK’s” coming into the USA from Russia are the Saigas made at Izmash or the VEPRS made at Molot.
Neither are true AK’s, but the VEPRs are fine rifles.
I had one of those and sold it. Great little gun but the Romanian version wasn’t the best quality. Lots of fun to shoot with minimal kick, but man are they loud!!
A fine choice, and currently the cheapest of the lot to feed.

I’ve never really thought of the 7.62x39 as a “powerful round.”
Like the 5.56, its basically designed to inflict lots of wounds. Don’t get me wrong, a lot have been killed by both the rounds, but the basic philosophy was that wounding the enemy took more people out of play than killing the enemy. That’s why both sides went for it.
I forgot were I read that, some obscure military publication produced by the army.
The AK-47 and SKS is battled proven, and the ammunition is world wide....these rifles will operate even in the most harsh
conditions....be wise not to throw off on these jewels.

In fact I'd make it a stainless steel single action, probably a Ruger.
No fan of the Ruger new models, give me the old model, but they are virtually indestructible unless you try to load a round hot enough to stop a tank.
Saiga 12 ga has cycling issues...stay with a good pump. And, yes, I am a Saiga owner (or was until the unfortunate canoe accident).
But I still want to buy an AK, JUST BECAUSE Obamugabe said I shouldn't have one.
The AMD 65 is easily the ugliest variant ever produced.

My Saiga is .223. I researched the 12 and saw that advice but I’m already covered vis a vis 12 ga. If the fix works go for it. I am a long time Saiga fan.
