Here are the facts regarding friends (we'll call them the Parkers) of mine: Police came to the house at 3am, saying that someone reported they had heard a scream coming from their house. Police left upon being told that the Parkers had no knowledge of this.
Then sometime not long later, the police came to the Parker home again, saying that a 911 call had been made from the Parker house, with the voice of a woman yelling, and the phone was hung up. The parents were not at home, just the teenage boy and the 20-something girl. They showed no identification, although they wore the uniforms of the local police. The boy wished to accompany them as they searched the house, but they told him to stay where he was. One of the officers went down the hall to a bedroom where the husband's gun collection was, and lingered there long enough so that the other officer called out: "Are you all right?" The guns are all properly registered. The officers then left.
My questions: Is an incorrectly-attributed 911 call a frequent occurence? Could such be used to gain access to anyone's house? Is a warrant required?
If I were “Mr Parker” I would have my lawyer FOIA request the 911 records and ask the Police Chief for the names and discipline records of the officers involved. That may prevent any escallation.

That is correct.
I would bet they do it all the time. The problem for the police is if they catch you committing a crime during your house search as a result of their lying about a call. The first thing your lawyer is going to to is ask for records of the call to 911 dispatch and local phone records showing the call was made from the house. No call, no warrant, no prosecution. Now they arrested you illegally. You could possibly counter-sue.
But as far as just lying to get “reasonable suspicion”, they do it all the time.
I was pulled over when a policeman said they got an anonymous tip I had open beer in the car. I didn’t know a soul in the area I was in, so how could anybody tip the police? Impossible. Moreover, I had no beer of any kind in the car, open or sealed, and had not had a drink or shopped for beer.
He completely fabricated a lie so he could search my car. To this day I have no clue why he wanted to search my car, but all it took for him to search my car was to claim this lie.
Sometimes, I just hate cops.
Subpoena the phone records.
Considering your attitude, I suspect you would be put up on phony charges and shot trying to escape.
