Why I Will Vote for Romney-Ryan in November
http://www.freerepublic.com/~mkjessup/ | 17 August 2012 | Mark Jessup (aka mkjessup)

Posted on 08/17/2012 3:40:53 PM PDT by mkjessup

I've been on FR since 2003. Hard to believe next March will be my 10th year here, assuming I don't get zotted for one reason or another, lol

To that handful of detractors who would LIKE to think this is my opus, guess again suckers - I would never give you the satisfaction of it. Now that we have that out of the way, why this vanity?

First of all, I'm posting this in News/Activism not because this is sourced from a network, newspaper, etc., but because I've noticed that nobody else worries about posting their vanities in the 'Personal/Blogger' section, so WTH should I?

Now for the purpose of my writing today: after a great deal of soul searching and I might add, a goodly amount of prayer, I have come to the conclusion that my vote in November must and will be cast for the GOP ticket of Romney and Ryan. I did not reach this decision easily. Even a casual review of my past posts will reveal that I have reviled, ridiculed, lambasted and sneered at Mitt Romney with the best of them. I've posted my own home brewed graphics to the laughs of my fellow FReepers, I have been steadfast in saying 'no damn way' would I ever even consider voting for that liberal Republican from Massachuetts, no way would I reward the GOP elites with my vote after they've pissed on conservatives from sea to shining sea. The Party of Reagan is no more, let no one deceive you. We as conservatives are more at home in the Tea Party, and yet what was for a short while the natural home for conservatives, i.e. the Republican Party is an unfamiliar neighborhood, a place that sometimes looks like the place we remember, but upon a second glance, we realize that everything is different now, everything has changed.

Now there are good and Godly conservatives who in a perfect world, WOULD be viable candidates for the Presidency, there is no need to list them all here, we all have our favorites and we all know who we would prefer to be voting for. Our own Tom Hoefling would be a better President than the miserable Kenyan sonuvabitch that is stinking up the White House right now, hell *I* would be a better President than that despicable usurper and liar, and so would most of you, my fellow FReepers.

Now I can recite (and in the past, I have) endless reasons as to why I could not and would not vote for Mitt Romney. In many ways it galls me no end to have reached the conclusion that my own Constitutional duty is to vote for a guy that I had sworn never to vote for. It really REALLY starches my shorts however I have had to question my own perspectives, my own views and ask myself the question, "can I honestly justify another four years of what one of my heroes Senator Joe McCarthy would certainly have labeled a 'Communist regime'?

I cannot do that. I do not like the presumptive GOP nominee, I do not agree with many of his past positions. However I cannot deny that one and only one of the two major party candidates for President is going to be sworn in next January. It will either be that treasonous little bastard 0bama, or it will be Mitt Romney. Anyone, and I mean ANYBODY, who thinks that Tom Hoefling, Virgil Goode, or any other non-'Rat/non-GOP candidate is going to be sworn in as our 45th President next year, I will personally bet $100,000 against that happening at any odds they wish, because that is how likely it is that NEITHER 0bama or Romney will end up being elected in November. I won't lose one dime on that sort of wager.

So how do I justify voting for the GOP and Romney this time around? Well, some things I do NOT believe about Romney is that he hates America, that he hates our capitalist system, that he wants to weaken our national defense, sell out our allies and reward our enemies. I don't agree with nor support his religious faith. But his belief in the tenets of Mormonism is quite frankly between him and God. Now while it is easy to find all sorts of things about the Mormon faith that fly in the face of basic traditional Christianity, if the choice is between a closet-crypto Muslim in the White House, and a church going, charitable, prayerful Mormon who doesn't cheat on his wife, doesn't smoke dope, doesn't even drink (is that true? I'm not sure but I think Mitt is a tee-totaler), I'm pulling the lever for that Mormon guy.

Picture all of America on a gigantic airliner, streaking through the sky, when word comes back from the cockpit that Captain 0bama has never even flown a plane of this size or any size, he's been reading the instruction manual from a hidden teleprompter on top of the instrument panel, we're headed for a bad patch of CAT (Clear Air Turbulence) and the illustrious fake pilot is going to try and fake his way through that turbulence, and it is a foregone conclusion that "we're all gonna die!" - but up in first class (of course, lol) Mitt Romney stands up and informs everyone that he IS a licensed pilot, and that he can get our airliner away from the turbulence, down to a safer altitude, get us back on the proper heading, and land safely at our destination. He offers to take the controls. SOME passengers question him "have you ever flown a plane like this?" and he answers honestly "no, not quite this size, but I AM a pilot, I HAVE flown in difficult circumstances before, and I've got more skills than that fake pilot up in the cockpit that we are about to crash with". Who the Hell is going to argue against that logic? No other pilots on board. No parachutes. And indeed, a fool and an oaf at the controls of the cockpit. WTF do we have to lose?

And another analogy that I've already posted recently, which is that conservatives need to do what the Western allies did in World War II, they did not particularly like Joe Stalin, in fact they knew him to be a rotten communist sonvuabitch but the "enemy of our enemy was our friend" (or at least a convenient ally) and the GREATER enemy was in Berlin, in the form of Hitler and we needed Stalin and his troops to attack the Nazis from the East, and that is why we sent them tons of lend-lease assistance to help them accomplish that. And what kind of fools would have urged a different course in that war? A course of telling Stalin and Soviet Russia that they were "on their own" and they would receive no assistance from us? Can you imagine for just a moment if Nazi Germany had prevailed on the Eurasian continent, the Swastika flying all the way from London to Vladivostok?

Now having painted that sort of grim picture of alternate history, I think we can agree that for all of Mitt Romney's faults, he is not a Joe Stalin, he may be a liberal but he is no Communist.

Can we say the same for 0bama and his crew of America-hating scumbags?

Now a powerful factor in my decision to support the GOP ticket was in fact, the selection of Paul Ryan as Romney's VP running mate. Now Paul Ryan is nobody's fool. If there was anybody I wanted to have the ear of 'President Romney' it would be Vice President Paul Ryan. Everyone keeps saying "if Romney would just move to the right", well I believe Paul Ryan is the best person to accomplish that task. They seem to have a good chemistry and that bodes well for the success of their ticket. The polls show Romney-Ryan up, and 0bama and the 'Rats freaking and shrieking as their numbers decline.

Now I have myself made the argument in the past that the only difference between Romney and 0bama is that 0bama is driving us to the edge of the cliff at 100 mph, and Romney is going to reduce our speed to a thrifty 55 mph. And even IF that were to be proven true, I'm not in any hurry to reach the edge of that cliff.

Now in closing, I ask the following question: how many of us would clench our teeth and pull the lever for Gerald Ford, or Bob Dole, or any other establishment RINO if it meant the end of 0bama? To get that filthy Communist out of the White House, I would (to paraphrase Sir Winston Churchill) 'consider writing in the name of the devil himself', and so for that reason my friends and FRiends, I will support and vote for the GOP ticket of Romney & Ryan in November, not because everything about it excites and pleases me, but because I cannot be a party to another 4 years of the Kenyan traitor staining and besmirching the Office once held by the greatest President of all history, Ronald Wilson Reagan. I submit that Reagan would vote for Romney. We can be assured that Sarah Palin is going to vote for Romney. So will Newt Gingrich. So will Rick Santorum. So IF I am making a mistake by casting my vote for the GOP this year, I will be in good company.

Thanks for your kind consideration.

Mark Jessup

read that Dr Sowell article this morning, and my take is that he sees the 'forest' as being gone either way...

a wildfire with bambam, or clearcutting it with mittens...

in no way did i see him in that article making a case for an executive to do any more than work within the system...

something that mittens will do in spades, giving us 'bi-partisan' implementation of a large percentage of bambams goals too...

so long as politicians refuse to gut the budget with a friggin meataxe, we're hosed anyways...might as well pull the damn bandaid off and get it over with...depending on future politicians to balance and fix anything is how we got here...

I understand what you folks are saying.  That graphic on the right pretty much sums it up for me.

I can't stand by and watch the slide into oblivion any longer.  I may not be able to affect who is nominated, but I sure as hell can affect who I vote for.

If my team is going to join their team, then I don't have a team.  It's that simple.

President Reagan used to say it like this.  I was a life-long Democrat until the party moved away from me.

Well, the Republican party has moved away from me.  I'm sorry to see it, but it's life.

I have had to accept other people's decisions that affected life, in a very painful manner.  All you can do is remain who you are, suck it up, and move on.

Republican party, you know where I am when you change your ways.  Feel free to contact me, after you have.

And by the way, that smoke and mirrors thing..., it's not working for you.

FReepers and Lurkers, if you haven't already, please chip in to help end this FReep-a-Thon.  Thank you.

Oh you’ve decided that it’s a mutually exclusive designation?
***Sometimes it is; most of the time it isn’t. But increasingly, it is becoming more and more the case.

I’m not convinced we haven’t seen some good people come and go.

We hold them to a very strict set of principles, then allow a guy like Romney to slither in without us enforcing any principles.

“Oh he said that fifteen years ago? Well then, that’s the end of them!”

“Oh, he governed like that, supported the other, came out in favor of this other stuff too, and still believes 95% of it...? Well, he’s okay then. Remember, Reagan wasn’t perfect either.”

mkjessup:

The former GOP national candidates you name are all high up in the GOP. At their level, everyone must maintain the fiction that the nominee is worth voting for. I am not running for POTUS and never will. Nor am I a national Republican figure subject to being bludgeoned into line. Nor did I do a 180 reversal of my principles to become an instant pom pom girl for my enemies last Friday. Nor shall I now or in the future. Nor am I subject to an ideological virus like EVER finding either of this year's despicable major party candidates for POTUS vaguely acceptable to conservatives.

I do thoroughly disagree with the idea that Mittler is a "traitor to conservatism." Neither was Georg McGovern. Neither was never even remotely conservative. That would be like accusing Stalin of being a traitor to our Founding Fathers. How could that be???

I live about three miles south of Ryan's Congressional District. I am also not impressed by him. If you are impressed by him, good for you. That is another thing on which I won't be joining you.

Note that you mentioned, attacked (however mildly) and pinged me and not vice versa. Whatever I may do in the future, you are not likely to be part of. Whatever you may do in the future, I am not likely to be part of.

Paraphrasing Don Vito Corleone as he said said to Virgil Solluzzo: Supporting this Romney is a dirty business that I want no part of. That's your business and it does not concern me.

I would add: Personally, I wish you well and, if you succeed in electing that despicable POS to whom you have now pledged your troth, I hope you get a thorough snootful of him immediately after 1/21/13.

***George McGovern never claimed to be a “severe conservative”. Nor did Stalin. But Romney did. Just like Benedict Arnold claimed to be a patriot, but was lying. Traitor is the proper term.

BlackElk:

I wish you well also, and I am certain that my Godfather, James Robleone wishes you well too. I posted this vanity as you said, last Friday and I did not post it lightly. Time will indeed prove the folly or foresight of my actions. I did not expect that Mr. Robleone would actually endorse the same course of action this morning in a new thread of his own, however I am honored to stand with him and I am sure that we can agree on wishing him nothing but success and the very best.

Arrivederci.

Aren't you the one who theorizes that those here who hurl insults at others are conceding that they have lost the argument???? Just asking!

Anyone who would vote for either Obama or Romney must not care much for the lives of the next five million babies to be sliced, diced and hamburgerized.

I have lived a long time and enjoyed most of that life. Obama has nothing to intimidate me with and neither does Romney.

As to purism, Barry Goldwater (not my hero for other reasons) said of extremism in 1964: If you were hiring someone to man your cash register, would you hire someone "extremely" honest or 75% honest? Likewise, in choosing a wife, would you marry one committed to avoiding prostitution 100% of the time or one similarly committed 75% of the time (or in the case of Romney more like 1% of the time). You make your choices and live with the results.

And, of course, I have every intention to vote against Obama AND against Romney.

Again, you chose to ping me as I did hot choose to ping you.

You must really feel a sense of shame when you have to go hunting each and every FReeper who disagrees with you on Romney only three days after you did a sudden 180 and became a Romney pom pom girl.

The shade of Margaret Sanger thanks you for your support.

Well written mk, I can empathize with the predicament you and other FReepers find yourselves in. Your post has compelled me to write something about this whole Romney mess for the first time in a very long time.

Since the moment Romney became the apparent nominee, FR has devolved into one big pissing match between the AB0’s and ABR’s.

It’s been a sight to behold. The only analogy I can draw is the War Between the States, War of Northern Aggression or as it’s more commonly known, the Civil War.

FReepers going at each other’s throats because they disagree with each other. I have judiciously and studiously attempted to avoid entering the fray. Occasionally jumping in to try and get FReepers to cease with the personal insults and attacks. To little or no avail and sometimes, to find the long knives pointed in my direction instead.

Cowardice? No. I’m not a masochist. I am fortunate (??) that I live in CA. My choice has been made for me. I will vote Conservative or straight R depending on who is on the ballot, but won’t pull for Romney. But then again, I can’t see Romney winning CA anyway, so I can retain what little of my principles/honor remain intact after this debacle.

For those in swing states, I empathize with your predicament.

On another thread, an AB0 FReeper said that forgiveness was in order. I do believe that there are apologies due from both sides.

The only way to heal many of the deep wounds given here on FR in the past few months is for FReepers to put aside their pride, reach out their hand and apologize.

Then forgiveness and healing can commence in earnest. A return to civil discourse is sorely needed. It’s what makes FR the best place to be on the internet.

In closing, I humbly and sincerely apologize to any who I have offended here on FR.

No politician is worth the FRiendship of a FReeper, even if we do disagree.

Godspeed and may God in His eternal wisdom and mercy continue to bless these United States of America.

SZ

Maryland is going for Obama as it did in 2008 and no amount of dreaming or wishful thinking is going to change that.
Given that I have no reason to soil myself voting for Romney, in case he wins. I guess if he loses after I vote for him then it’s just water under the bridge.

There are two referendums on the Maryland ballot that have a chance of passing : Repeal gay marriage and repeal Dream act for illegals college tuition that I will vote for.

As I always said : vote for whoever you want.

You see what is going on in MO with Akin? Another Sharon Angle looking to throw the Senate back to Reid. Imagine a POTUS Romney with a Reid Senate.

I decided to vote for Romney a few weeks ago, after having talked to a military pal. He was right too. “Forget Romney, he’s a weasel. He just wants to be POTUS. We can move him to the right. He will move there just to get acceptance. This election is not about Romney, it is about Obama “

RE :”We can move him to the right.

You mean like we moved Boehner to the right?? OWCH :)

In 2012 and 2016 maybe (election years), the others would/will be pretty rough. He will be in a position to move Republicans to the left as POTUS.

I can just hear it : “We have to support that (Romney's current agenda) or Democrats will win. They will do even worse and this is the BEST deal we can get. We all knew he was liberal anyway and we accepted that. We cant turn on ourselves now. Maybe after re-election Romney can move to the right like Bush did his second term. Lets' all just pull together one more time as a Team.

OWCH, this is just too easy to see this time.

Yeah, but I don’t think that he will.

Bush moved to the right in his 2nd term? Coulda fooled me! I didn’t even vote for the NWO/Amnesty Queen the second time, nor did I vote for McCain/Palin. I don’t have that luxury this time.
