Ayala’s victory kept the 128th District seat in her family. She is the cousin of Andres Ayala, who held the seat for the past six years before deciding to enter a three-way race for the Democratic state senate seat in that same district, in which he claimed victory Tuesday. She is the daughter of Santa Ayala, the Democratic registrar of voters, and Alberto “Tito” Ayala, a former councilman known for his ability to generate votes.

Ayala won the district with 64 percent of the votes, or 439 to 240 votes.

Her "hit and run" and the failure to administer the field sobriety test should be used against her in the general election campaign. It shows a lack of character and a scofflaw attitude that is unacceptable in an elected official.
