Facebook’s proprietary knowledge is The Platform, an application program interface that allows programmers to develop applications to fit within the frame. Trouble is, there isn’t much there that’s worth while.

I like it because it’s the only way I’ve ever been able to reliably reach out and send a message to family members. It keeps me in touch with friends and family that I hadn’t been in touch with for over 35 years. There is plenty of conservative content on it - if you’re a conservative that’s mostly what you see, because the advertising gets to know you.

I’m a facebook backer, but it IS funny to see all the little sheeple getting their throats cut.

Soros has a substanial position in Facebook. He must be thrilled.

And, I am thrilled for him.

How to value a stock in one easy lesson:

1. What are the projected earnings per share for 2012 and 2013?

About .49 2012, .63 2013.

2. Is this company likely to grow substantially, become 2, 3, or 5 times as big?

No, the number of users accounts is very high already.

3. Is there an easy way they could increase profits at their existing level of business?

More ads, but it might annoy the existing users, and is unlikely to attract more.

4. Since profits will not be going up much, how will stockholders benefit from existing cash flow?

Hard to say, dividend unlikely.

5. So what is a suitable multiple for a stock like that?

No more than 15-20 times current-year earnings, or $7.50-10 a share....at the most.

No, you’re NOT alone.

Facebook—the company, not just the stock—STINKS!!!! It’s just a platform to destroy people’s privacy and sell their identities and info to governments and corporations!!!!

I’d like to see Facebook fall hard, and go out of business!

I’m not cheering for it....but it does help me believe there is some sanity in the world....and companies really aren’t valued at 40 times earnings.

Now, what happened is almost criminal, considering the report a few weeks ago...in which investors were told “oh BTW, alot of our accounts are fake, and the advertising model doesn’t work as well as we told you.”

Today was the first lockup expiration date on the stock. There are apparently several more. 22 million shares were freed up to be sold today leading to the price tanking.

built on 13 year old girls

My son in law calls it chick-book.
So far I have been unable to find any women who are able to explain how it is better than just emailing or calling someone.

‘So far I have been unable to find any women who are able to explain how it is better than just emailing or calling someone.’

It is not narcissistic enough. Like Twitter, another thing I just do not get, I do not need to blast my every idle thought to all I know, and many I do not, to see.

I know a guy that called it The Devils Workshop, suitable for teenagers and bored middle age women to find old lovers

Am I one of the few who enjoy watching it fall and cheering for it?

Nope. I bought Dec 22 $30 puts :)

You may be, but then that would make me one of the few too.

I mean, who could have seen this coming?

LOL, people are so convinced FaceBook is a stroke of genius. They were convinced it was a steal at $38.00. LOL, IMO it wouldn’t be a steal at $0.05 cents.

I have friends and relatives that post things on Facebook, and are then amazed that I don’t know about what they posted there.

When I mention that I only pop in to my account about once in three months, you would think I just told them I don’t like sex.

The only reason I am there at all, is to reserve my name so nobody else can use it.

When I tell them this, the subject changes so fast I’m surprised they don’t get whiplash

Thanks for your perspective. I have three major problems with FB:

1. It is VERY intrusive. They have software that scans everything you post, including pictures. The info gleaned from this is used to target ads to you. And they will share your info with anyone that has the bucks to pay for it.

2. If you decide to leave FB, you can "delete" your account but FB hangs on to your account and everything in it. Kinda like the Hotel California:

More info here. Note this caveat:

3. If you're having a stalking or bullying problem with a FB user, FB corporate ignores pleas for help. I have a friend right now who is going through hell with his daughter (age 14) regarding this. There have been several articles about pedophiles using FB. And FB apparently could care less.

As I said, Facebook is evil.

Their interface has gotten so cludgy and non-intuitive, it’s almost unusable.
