The Social Security Administration Is Buying 174,000 Rounds Of High-Powered Ammunition

First the DHS needed 450 million rounds of ammunition, then the NOAA requested 46,000 rounds, now we've discovered an online request at FBO.Gov calling for 174,000 rounds of ammunition for the Social Security Administration.
The request actually calls for 174K .357 hollow points that arguably have as much stopping power as any bullet out there, and hollow point to do as much damage to soft tissue as possible on top of that.
R.K. Campbel at Gun Blast mentions his experience with .357 rounds:
I observed the effect of the .357 Magnum 125 grain JHP once over the top of my own sights. The effect was gruesome. A solid hit that produced a severe blood flow AND dramatic effect from the rear, including lung tissue thrown perhaps three feet.
The 125 grain and JHP (jacketed rounds) are exactly the ones requested by the SSA and their offices of Inspector General and Office of Investigation.
The FBO has a link that lists all locations slated to receive the batches of bullets. Offices like Greensboro, NC are getting a mere 1,000 rounds while offices like Iselin, NJ are getting 10 times that number.
Alex Jones' InfoWars is quick to point out that this acquisition jibes with a DHS operation in January where the agency swarmed a Leesburg, FL social security office and posted armed guards outside the doors.

So, let's say there's some small town with 10,000 residents where the Police haven't fired a shot in the last 10 years.
Would you recommend disarming the Police?
Seems like so many departments of the Executive Branch are buying up ammo that it’s a share the cost program to achieve as much ammo as they can get, but spread the cost around to different departments having those departments purchase portions of the target merchandise in effort to not strap one particular department’s budget, or is also possibly a diversion of attention from a specific department’s alarming acquisition.
Whatever it is there isn’t enough information here.
What, none for the USPS?

They're eff'n paper pushers! Beyond building security, which covers your argument, there's zero, nada, zippedy-do-dah reason for those folks to be armed. And hell, half the office DEA agents in NYC should check their pistols when they leave work. I picked up more than a few from bar room floors whe they got drunk and falling down.
BTW, you've got too many letters in your nic. Drop the r, g, e, , e and r.
What I'm puzzled over is why are they all putting in orders all at once? Just a meme whose time has come, that we're all suddenly aware & investigating, only to find what the norm is? Or...?
How hard is it to understand that people have a natural inclination to express concern when they read something like this?
Thanks for the information.
I have ever right and business to comment on the DHS solicitation. So take your attitude and shove it.
The government doesn't buy bullets, they buy ammunition.
Ammunition consists of more than several cartridges. Each cartridge contains a shellcase, a primer, propellant powder and a bullet.
Bullets are to cartridges as cement is to concrete, as flour is to bread, etc. If you are going to write on a forum, please learn the language and proper terminology.
I'm qualified to know that even if what you posted is 100% correct, it's still a sh*tload of things that go bang for people who really don't need a lot of things that go bang. Do we really need a federal flotilla of armed Social Security cops? Are you sh*tting me? The Social Security Administration couldn't farm out to the FBI the one case out of the 10,000 they handle that requires an armed presence?
This reads like the Seinfeld episode with the overzealous library cop, only now we got guys like him carrying around roscoes. You really want to shake the pom-poms for this on a conservative forum?
The DHS, FBI, Secret Service, Social Security, even NOAA are buying up fairly large quantities of ammo lately and it is all supposed to be delivered within 60 days. I can probably find some links around here. One can only surmise that something is up, probably within the next 90 days or so.
Dumbass!
Read my whole post.
I was being sarcastic.
Because, they expect trouble (probably they expect to start trouble and blame it on us) in the next 90 days or so. These delivery orders seem to be rush requests to be filled by 1 NOV.
Hmmmm...guess I wasn’t so crazy after all.
8/14 NOAA office of law enforcement has ordered 46,000 rounds
16,000 rounds .40 S&W (JHP) bullets to New Bedford, MA
6,000 rounds of S&W JHP will be sent to Wall, New Jersey and another 24,000 rounds of the same bullets will be handed over to the station in St. Petersburg, Florida.
The federal government's fiscal year ends Sept. 30th.
And you know what? It hasn't! They contract their officers, said contractors providing their own weapons/ammo under contract. Not federal employees-- contractors. So this is new info. Sure, Dept. of Agriculture has Forestry Service Rangers who have to be armed for real "nutters" and pot growers on federal lands, and Fisheries-- if they have to board a foreign commercial vessel w/in 200 mi limit it's the Coasties who do that with them.
The SSA/OIG careers website states that "We have a staff of approximately 600 employees, 70% of whom are criminal investigators and auditors." 70% of the 600 SSA OIG/OI (Hq'd in either MD or Puerto Rico) is 420. If each one of these CIs and auditors were armed (and presuming all with 357 mag. SIG semi autos)and in the field, that would mean 414 rounds apiece (at 174K rounds). Doubt this seriously.
Given this is an IDIQ bid (and agreed, it is a bid, not an order), indef delivery/indef quantity, it is a whole lot of ammo at the top end, for a rather small number of what are not employees, but contractors (no doubt with prior federal officer resumes/licensing etc.). Judging from the amount of SS fraud, they're doing a poor job in any case.
It may be comforting to dismiss this as "nuts" and "kooks" but there are a lot of folks here on FR who are seriously connected, fair number of former operators and FLEs (GS-1801,1810,1811s or FS-2501s). Not putting too fine a point on it, they do know about FLETC in Glynco (do you really think the TSA needs to bid out for 800 lbs of RDX, when they can train there where they have plenty?). Folks here are rightly concerned, and not buddies of the Alex Jones or Charlie Sheen paranoids, and prefer to remain vigilant.
With the current "red" executive and his gal pal at DHS (studied incompetence empowered by marxist legations of Eric Holder),this is not a time for complacency or "just another day, donuts and coffee",nor for assuming it's vendor beltway bandits completing zero line budgets for the fiscal year. In view of the lying Chicago thug Cloward-Piven marxist tactics of this red executive, dismantling our Constitutional government, what is being questioned seems quite reasoned and prepared.
BTW there is a current listing of glynco training partners available on the DHS website. Deo Vindice.
