Betty Ryan Douglas, who turned 78 last week, lives at least part time in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea in Broward County. A Republican, she has been registered to vote in Florida since 1997......
....It was Paul Ryans mother who helped push him off the ski slopes and into politics. From Wisconsin Interest magazine:
Upon graduation, he headed to Oxford, Ohio, to attend Miami University. (Twenty-three years later, he would return to give the commencement speech.) His junior year, Ryan took an internship with Wisconsin Sen. Bob Kastens foreign affairs advisor. Ryan says he spent more time opening mail than working on the study of Soviet containment, but it got his foot in the door when a real internship with Kastens small-business committee opened up over the summer.
Ryan returned to classes in the fall for his senior year. Two weeks in, he got a call from Cesar Conda, Kastens staff director. Conda confided that the committees staff economist was leaving the following May. Would Ryan take the job after he graduated for one-third of the salary?
Ryan wasnt sure ... until Betty Ryan gave him a tongue-lashing. She feared her son was destined to become a ski bum. The Kasten post led Ryan to a job with two of the GOP smartest thinkers, Jack Kemp and Bill Bennett, at Empower America, then as Senator Sam Brownbacks legislative director.
Conda may be familiar to Florida politicos. Hes now chief of staff for Sen. Marco Rubio.
Rubio, who was considered for the vice presidential spot, campaigned with Romney on Monday and is headed to Texas for fundraiser in San Antonio...sent out an email solicitation calling Ryan a courageous reformer.
I got to know Paul during my Senate campaign when he endorsed me early on when I was still considered a long shot, Rubio wrote.

Speaking of another Miami (OH), Ryan has a connection there also, as detailed here.
Thank you for the LINK and the information.
Ted Cruz, Paul Ryan, Marco Rubio, Sarah Palin, Rand Paul, ........ the growing field of well spoken conservatives continues apace!
She’s right up the road from me!
Amazed how much my area is political this year.
That’s the next town over from our Fla place. Great news.
My conversations with local tradesmen, laborers, shop clerks, other working stiffs here in my Florida niche are surprisingly almost 100% positive for the R & R team.
Yesterday the bakery lady at my Publix evinced muted but genuine panic that Obama would be re-elected with the help of widespread vote fraud. She's also freaked out by the phony polls broadcast every almost every minute down here.
As a long-term student of FR's Institute of Higher Conservative Studies I was able to give her a few fast facts and figures and calm her down before she sliced my loaf of bread and her fingers.
In short, I like what I'm hearing here in Florida. The senior retirees are an iffy group.....too many are selfish, lazy, feel entitled, afraid the GOP will stop their benefits plus so many are totally ignorant of economics and the pitfalls of marxist and socialist ideologies. They go by emotions, fear and/or greed.
However, I'm totally convinced Florida will go Red by a comfortable margin. In fact, I'm convinced it's that way already. The addition of Ryan to the team is an extra delicious hors d' oeuvre.....and Obama is hated almost irrationally by many Floridian folks and business people now feeling the frightening, rapidly-tightening pinch.

Not hating Obama is irrational :)
Very encouraging to hear. The “on the ground” reports are invaluable and we need more of them. Thank you!
The steady tattoo of phony poll results is deliberate and will continue right up till election day. This is part and parcel of the left's disinformation and demoralization campaign....a planned operation right out of the Josef Goebbel's handbook.
We should not live and die by the daily polls, instead we should continue to keep our ears to the ground and hear and feel the mood of the real world around us. And I like what I'm hearing from all stratas of my particular local society.

On the surface Rubio, Conda...all of it seemed so ‘harmless’...The tea party was taken for a ride!
WHO IS CESAR CONDA???
