Shooting Near Texas A&M Reportedly Downs Two Officers
Update (2:35 p.m. EDT): The local NBC affiliate KCEN reports six people were shot, including two police officers.
Update (2:15 p.m. EDT): Spokeswoman Rhonda Seaton, of the College Station police department, which responded to the shooting, tells CNN that there are “multiple” injuries, but she couldn’t yet say how many. She said the shooting happened “within a block or two” of campus.
Original: The early reports of a gunman near the campus of Texas A&M University in College Station, outside of Houston, say a shooter, now in custody, appeared to be firing from a house with automatic weapons, hitting at least two police. The local station KBTX reported that “scanner traffic indicates that at least two officers are down.” We’ll keep the news updated as reporters arrive on the scene. The shooting, of course, comes on the heels of the mass shooting at a Wisconsin Sikh temple on Aug. 5, and the massacre at a Colorado movie theater on July 20. This shooting took place off campus. Police told CNN they issued a “Code Maroon” out of precaution.
reading on some A&M message boards that this was an eviction notice or warrant being served by a constable and that the constable was shot and the guy barricaded himself into the house and started shooting ....
Oh yeah. Most everyone at FR has noticed. TX has a statewide ban on OC, and I don’t think CC is permitted on universities...for those who wish to pay the steep TX self-defense tax.
Some posts there that no one was killed.
Since this happened in Texas, if the shooter killed anyone, he will certainly get the needle. There is no reluctance here to use the death penalty.
No, they’ll try and find a way to link it to Paul Ryan.
I have to check with my sister. Brother in law works on campus.

Open carry of rifles, shotguns and other long arms is legal without a permit in Texas. Just not pistols.
Yes...unfortunately they did away with the electric chair. Whenever one of those events was scheduled, up in Fort Worth we used to turn off a few lights just in case they needed some extra juice.
The obvious target is the guns, but an even scarier result would be the ability of police to detain an individual on another’s word that they are crazy. Can guarantee you that yet again someone reported the perpetrator was nuts and “nothing was done”.
Texas A&M is the sixth biggest university in the country and the home of the George W. Bush Presidential Library.
BUSH'S FAULT!!!
“Open carry of rifles, shotguns and other long arms is legal without a permit in Texas. Just not pistols”
I stand corrected. However, very few people I know are willing to shlepp a rifle or shotgun around town.
“...automatic weapons...”
THOSE THINGS again? OMG!
...but come to think of it, not a bad idea in those few states where OC of handguns is banned...
An interesting quirk of the law is that if you legally own or possess a Class III full auto weapon or other NFA-restricted arm, you may also carry that as if it were a non Class III. So it’s completely legal to stroll down a main street in Texas with a real M-16 slung over your back.
If you have a CCW and a legal machine pistol or submachine gun, you can conceal and carry that as well.
GWB’s presidential library is at SMU, not TA&M
My husband is currently on a road trip from California to take my son to A&M for his freshman year.
Glad this happened before he got there. I’d be a nervous wreck, especially because I was in a famous business shooting (Richard Farley at ESL).
