Accused Colorado shooter James Holmes, charged with murder over a shooting rampage last month at a movie theater in a Denver suburb, has a "mental illness" and tried to get help before the shooting, his defense attorney said in court on Thursday.
Holmes, who is accused of opening fire at a midnight screening of "The Dark Knight Rises" in the suburb of Aurora, was present in a hearing in which a judge weighed a request by 20 media organizations to unseal documents related to his case.
During the hearing, Holmes' public defender, Daniel King, repeatedly made references to his client's unspecified mental illness.
"He tried to get help with his mental illness," King said of his client, who appeared in court wearing maroon prison garb and shackled at his hands and ankles, with his dyed hair fading to pink in some places from its original reddish-orange.
Prosecutors charged Holmes, a 24-year-old former neuroscience graduate student at the University of Colorado, last week with 24 counts of first-degree murder and 116 counts of attempted murder over the rampage in which 12 people were killed and 58 others wounded.

Interesting comments at the link. It appears many folks are not convinced James Holmes is mental, that he knew what he was doing.
It is curious and unnerving how all three, Nidal Hassan, James Holmes, and the latest killer who’s name has disappeared from the public’s view, were involved with psychology programs involving the U.S.government.
but study him. That way we can find out what makes him tick or what doesn't make his brain tick properly.
After we are done, 
he should be free to go.
Did I mention that as part of studying his brain 
we should physically extract it.
When we release him we can hand him his own brain and he can put it back in himself.
A bizarre coincidence is that James Eagan Holmes and Wade Page have the same exact Jewish Gematria and Major Nidal Hassan comes close.

-Nothing works better at bringing up the "Gun Control" debate than a mass shooting. Yes, dozens of people killed in a such a manner is a tragedy and about 12,000 people are murdered by guns every year but what of the 2.5 MILLION Americans that defend themselves with guns every year, of which nearly 400,000 say they would most likely be dead if unarmed? They want to put us all at the mercy of criminals. Yes, Guns Kill, But How Often Are They Used in Self-Defense?
-Not only are hundreds of thousands of lives saved by guns, but the ONLY defense against an oppressive government and the last defense against an invading force is an armed population.
-If you think government research of weaponized psychedelic drugs ended with MK Ultra, I got a bridge to sell you. Such weapons have more potential than any guns, bombs or nukes. The path of entire nations can be altered with a few micrograms of chemical administered to the right people. Entire regions can be brought to their knees with a few kilos dropped into the water supply.

I do have a bit of a temper...
I’m not sure if he’s crazy, was doped up (including “legally” by that flakey gal who “received the notebook” & supposedly said she notified campus police way after the fact), was messing in a part of neuroscience nobody should be messing in, or if he was even the shooter (or acted alone).
The circumstances of his arrest *do not* make sense. Who dropped/ ditched the second gas mask far from Holmes’ car? And to whom did the riot shield belong? (Holmes carried 2 long guns, 2 canisters of gas, AND a riot shield- which wasn’t mentioned by anyone?) What was with the passive-aggressive emergency coordinator who kept stalling the LEOs, who were all but begging for ambulances & finally transported, themselves? (listen to the scanner recordings)
Loughner was obviously guilty. This one stinks to high heaven.
I do have a bit of a temper... Well, be forewarned, Grace, I have friends in high places and he has a temper, too...
