Mitt Romney has had a tough couple of weeks on the campaign trail -- and it shows in the latest Fox News poll. After a barrage of campaign ads, negative news coverage of his overseas trip and ongoing talk about his tax returns, Romneys favorable rating and standing in the trial ballot have declined. As a result, President Obama has opened his biggest lead since Romney became the presumptive Republican nominee.
The president would take 49 percent of the vote compared to Romney's 40 percent in a head-to-head matchup if the election were held today, the poll found. Last month, Obama had a four percentage-point edge of 45 percent to 41 percent. This marks the second time this year the president has had a lead outside the polls margin of sampling error.
Obamas advantage comes largely from increased support among independents, who now pick him over Romney by 11 percentage points. Some 30 percent of independents are undecided. Last month, Obama had a four-point edge among independents, while Romney had the advantage from April through early June.
There was also an uptick in support for Obama among women, blacks and Democrats.

My guess is the elected officials that you spoke to, think YOU are a “nut” and they are telling you what you want to hear since they are too busy to deal with kooks who can not handle the truth.
And?
For Heaven's sake, I was once on the front page of the Wichita Eagle for my thread to Governor Graves not to let him have the microphone on the floor of the San Diego Convention. You anti-Romney at all cost nut cases are causing harm to the conservative cause. I have paid my dues, I have the battle scars to prove it, and those who know me would tell you to shut up, since you are an embarrassment to yourself with your ignorant comments. I have done far more to advance the conservative cause in the State of Kansas than you could ever dream of.
Disagree with me on tactics, if you want, but I can give you the names of many elected conservatives who will tell you that I RECRUITED THEM to run against RINO’s and Liberal Democrats.
Thats not what Rasmussen says. Fox needs to stick to reporting. Plus they need to be polling likely voters not registered voters.
Yeah, but it won’t really matter. This country will turn out Obama in November, the electorate liked the experiment of giving power to this lunatic, preferring to think it would all somehow work out, but they won’t do it again. Even the liberals I know have begun to worry for the future.
I have no idea what a Romney presidency might really look like, but I know it will offer the opportunity for this country to step back from the ledge Obama put us on.
If he's re-elected, I'll make good on my threat to quit my job Dec. 31st, 2013 before ObamaCare goes in full effect.
I vow to become dependent on the government for my daily sustinence in order to break the system.
I've had enough. I pay too much in taxes, I'm tired of getting beat down by Obama and the Democrats telling ME I must pay MORE while the welfare queen at the grocery store pays for her food with food stamps and I pay cash.
That welfare queen eats better than I do, her "free" Obamaphone is better than my 9+ year old Motorola L7 SLVR that only makes phone calls, and the b*tch drives a better vehicle than I do.
Why do I work so hard and fight it? I give up....
Hey c’mon, Shephard Smith spent a lot of time on the phone taking this poll. It has to be accurate.
I hate to say it okie, I really do ...but I read those same types of statements here on FR in 2008. Guess who's in the White House anyway?
It wasn't the dis-spirited Republicans that stayed home, it was all the welfare recipients (1 in 3 American's get some form of Federal "Entitlement") showing up to make sure "they got theirs."
Obama's only made that problem WORSE, so how do you think it'll go this time around?
I don't pay attention to the polls, but when I read 1 in 3 get a federal check (and note: that 1 in 3 does NOT include Medicare or Social Security) it just makes me lose hope we can save this country. At least save it at the ballot box...
A 9 point lead? That’s silly. Nobody wins by 9 percentage points.
What is the date of the republican Convention?
Your guess would be wrong. Both are personal friends and both have asked me in the past to serve in advisory positions on their campaigns.
I was once on the front page of the Wichita Eagle for my thread to Governor Graves not to let him have the microphone on the floor of the San Diego Convention.
Good for you. Why such opposition to one RINO and such support for another? In this case, you seem to be confusing Republicanism with conservatism.
You anti-Romney at all cost nut cases are causing harm to the conservative cause.
Not as much as Mitt will do if you get your way and he's elected. If Romney is elected, you are aware that we will likely not see a conservative Republican nominee until 2020, at the earliest? How is that good for conservatism?
I have done far more to advance the conservative cause in the State of Kansas than you could ever dream of.
I'll grant you that since I've only lived in Kansas for a little over 10 years.
Disagree with me on tactics, if you want
I intend to as it relates to Romney. However, I'll extend you the courtesy of not calling you a "nut", "kook", or "nut case."
CINOs don't "confuse Republicanism with conservatism." They are, by definition, simply contemptuous of conservatism (and conservatives).
"Moderate" Republicans are nothing more than social liberals who nonetheless hunger for the occasional tax cut or three.
I KNEW this was going to happen. I knew he would be content to slaughter his fellow Republicans and go soft when it came to Obama.
Unfortunately, I’m not aware of the politics in his state, so I don’t know who could step in.
I do know that my Mom has been following this VP thing more closely, and she keeps saying that Rubio would be his best pick. I think she’s going to be furious if he doesn’t pick Rubio. Lol.
Mitt Romney a right wing extremist? Its hard to even call him conservative with a straight face, much less an extremist.
Have you checked your daughter for drugs?
If you had read my whole comment you would have had the answer to both your questions. I have mixed feelings about him picking Ryan because he does so well in his present position. The VP is more or less a figurehead. To pull a conservative such as Ryan out of the House would actually be to the benefit of any RINO who is President when they may have to deal with a Republican controlled House.
My question to you would be, who would you prefer in the House. More Paul Ryans or no Paul Ryans and all John Boehners?
Liebermann may be retiring but there's no reason why you would imply that he's the only one anybody should pick to be Romney's VP (though I would not put it past him).
Why would you think of choosing Joe Lieberman as VP when Sarah Palin (one of my top choices) is available?
“He can off-the-cuff it....”
I guess you didn’t hear about those remarks he made in Virginia on Friday the 13th where he told all small business owners “you didn’t build that!” Yeah, he really “has a gift” that Mitt doesn’t have. LOL.
You need to turn off MSNBC and start thinking for yourself. You’ve got their talking points (phony, hypocrite, etc.) memorized better than Chris Matthews. If Mitt is such a terrible candidate how did he out-raise Obama these last 2 months? The momentum and excitement is on his side. But you would never know it, considering he is getting 86% negative media coverage. Beating an incumbent is not an easy task—he has his work cut out for him. But it doesn’t help when people who should be his supporters are wallowing in the negative and bad-mouthing him, too.
Some positive things to think about:
1. The 2010 mid-term election results. Ask yourself-is Obama’s situation any better than it was in Nov. 2010? Plus Scott Walker’s victory in liberal Wisconsin.
2. Mitt’s convention speech. He has an enormous opportunity to introduce himself to those Americans who have never heard him speak. And then the debates.
3. Fundraising. Mitt’s raking it and out-raising Obama, a good sign in elections.
Romney would be up in a landslide if he showed some Conservative traits. He is doomed until then. The list of speakers at the show the GOP is control and run by RINOs. RINO are worthless.
