Fox News poll: Obama's lead grows as Romney's support slips
FOX News ^ | August 9, 2012 | By Dana Blanton

Mitt Romney has had a tough couple of weeks on the campaign trail -- and it shows in the latest Fox News poll. After a barrage of campaign ads, negative news coverage of his overseas trip and ongoing talk about his tax returns, Romney’s favorable rating and standing in the trial ballot have declined. As a result, President Obama has opened his biggest lead since Romney became the presumptive Republican nominee.

The president would take 49 percent of the vote compared to Romney's 40 percent in a head-to-head matchup if the election were held today, the poll found. Last month, Obama had a four percentage-point edge of 45 percent to 41 percent. This marks the second time this year the president has had a lead outside the poll’s margin of sampling error.

Obama’s advantage comes largely from increased support among independents, who now pick him over Romney by 11 percentage points. Some 30 percent of independents are undecided. Last month, Obama had a four-point edge among independents, while Romney had the advantage from April through early June.

There was also an uptick in support for Obama among women, blacks and Democrats.

So, Kansas, you would actually pick up the nearly empty revolver and pull the trigger with the barrel pointed at your skull? Oh, hell no. Don't be an idiot. Pick up the fully loaded revolver and pull the trigger with the barrel pointed at your captors. You might die before you get off a shot; you might take one of the bastards with you. But at least you die a free man instead of living as "sniveling, foolish coward, unable to make a rational decision" captive. Go Virgil Goode!

Cut Kansas58 some slack - he’s probably still upset that so many of his establishment Republicans (who actually like Romney) got beat in Tuesday’s Kansas primary. ;-)

They all agree with me.

Is there any rational, normal person who agrees with you? You support Obama

The difference being that I don’t see Romney as being that much different from Obama. The fact she doesn’t know the facts is disheartening. This is the same child who made me take off work and drive to Salem Va to see Sarah Palin.

Suddenly, she is a fracking idiot who thinks that Romney is a rich version of Alan Keyes.

Actually, many conservatives were at an election night Party hosted by Congressman Mike Pompeo.

There were lots of cheers as the conservatives won.

All of the elected Republican Conservatives in this State are supporting ROMNEY.

ALL OF THEM!

There were Romney stickers on the tables at this election night party.

Obviously the only thing to blame is the E-Coli that the Republicans are putting in the air and water. LOL

Allow me to quote Bill Clinton, “I feel your pain”.

My daughter... just informed me that she is voting for Obama because Romney is a right wing extremist who condemned gay marriage.

So, what you're saying is that now is the time to finally send her on that vacation to Europe for a tour of England, Spain and the low countries.

Actually, RomneyBOT, it is your hero AND YOU who support Obama.

Let us just take One (1) year, and some samples.

Romney for Obama in 2011

“White House Quotes Romney in Defense of Health Care”

Mitt Romney Sends Leftover Pizza to Obama Chicago HQ
After spending the day in Chicago fundraising, Mitt Romney
sat down with small business owners at Gino's East,
a pizza joint famous for their deep-dish pizza.
In fact, Romney himself tweeted a photo of a
delivery boy heading out with the loot, writing,
"Great deep dish at @ginoseast.
Sending the extra slices to @barackobama and his Chicago HQ team."

It’s amazing. Are you actually complaining that Romeny might pick a conservative to be a runningmate? Lieberman is retiring, would you prefer Romney pick him? From what I hear, Ryan is going to be the pick.

Paul Ryan got 68% of the vote in his district 2010, it is a safe seat.

Brett Baier on Special Report had no problem discussing this poll as gospel truth

Brett, the mesomorph, low-IQ jerk, who blew the jury verdict in the O.J. Simpson civil trial, back when. Surely, I'm not the only one here who remembers that embarrassing moment.

I just find it hard to believe in the America I see every day, that vast numbers of people are saying “Yeah, Obama, I got to have more of that!”

Living in VA, I saw that happen in just about every gubernatorial election in MD. The Glendenning reelection was particularly painful - people in MD HATED the guy, yet turned out an voted him back in for a second term.

Now, regarding this poll remember that it has a 4+ MOE, so Obama could be below 49%. IIRC, incumbents who are below 51% are considered in trouble, so this could be just an indication that Mittens hasn't "sealed the deal".

There's a LONG way to go in this yet, folks. Mittens is seriously out-fundraising Obama and from the looks of it is hoarding his money while Obama is dropping tens of millions here and tens of millions there. The conventions haven't happened yet, nor the debates, nor all the attacks and counter-attacks that will happen post-Labor day.

Yet Real Clear Politics lists Indiana as “leaning Romney”. The amount of junk polling is astounding, as if Obama had a chance to steal SC and GA as well.

Considering the amount of naysayers in this thread, I’d say it’s effective at demoralizing people.

Was it deliberate that you made it sound like you were simply an observer of the conservative celebrations?

Two conservatives candidates (both of whom won on Tuesday) told me essentially the same thing. They'll both be listed as supporting Romney but both feel that they have no choice, otherwise, they won't get cooperation from the state party that they need in their fall campaigns. That's the way the game works. One knows from experience since he angered the party establishment and suffered the consequences - his primary opponent was coaxed into the race by party regulars to silence this "trouble-maker". Each has told me that he will not personally vote for Romney - as one told me - the party bosses can't watch me vote.

In your response to Diogenesis, you listed a bunch of conservatives who have endorsed Romney. What would you expect? All of the these people have an interest in maintaining political viability. They can't get too far off the reservation.

"as if Obama had a chance to steal SC "

South Carolina could well be in play. Consider steady changes in demographics. Consider the SC GOP at war with itself. Consider a third party candidate that could gather one to two percent of the vote. Consider that some conservatives will sit out the election. Finally throw in some of the religous right who will not vote for a Mormon. The end result is that the Ascended One might pull out a victory by plurality. I expect Romney to win SC, but you have to realize that SC is no longer our father's south.
