If I had to name my greatest strength, I guess it would be my humility, Obama said. Greatest weakness? It's possible that I am a little too awesome.
The words I have for this unbelievable POS cannot be written on a polite forum.
Another view of the controversy. I sincerely hope Cardinal is setting a trap.
Before we get in an uproar at Dolan, every POTUS candidate has been invited and attended the Al Smith Dinner since its inception. Obama went off course at the 2008 dinner as he got political and that’s a no no at the affair.Think of it as a Catholic version of a celebrity roast.
I hope this fundraiser raises exactly what it’s worth: thirty pieces of silver - blood money.
There is a tradition of asking all POTUS candidates, no matter how evil or anti-Catholic they are. But I must say this is the worst scandal ever.
Obama—even worse now than when he was invited to Notre Dame.
Romney—a tax-funded baby killer of the first water, as this article briefly mentions.
What a pair!
So what? This is just indicative of the support that the USCCB has for the liberal Democratic agenda. With the exception of reproductive matters the USCCB's stance on issues could have been written by the liberal wing of the Democratic party.
The fundraiserthe annual Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner--will benefit the foundation, which Cardinal Dolan serves as board president. The foundation's website says it provides funding for healthcare causes.
Al Smith, a three-term governor of New York, became the first Catholic presidential candidate in U.S. history when the Democratic Party nominated him in 1928.
Mitt Romney, who as governor of Massachusetts determined that Catholic hospitals in that state would be required to distribute Plan B abortion pills to rape victims, will join Obama as a keynote speaker at the white-tie dinner.
Speechless.

....the New York Times posted an article with an explanation from the archdiocese on the invitation to Obama. It is the tradition of the Smith dinner to invite the presidential candidates in the presidential election years in the spirit of nonpartisanship, good humor and good fellowship, archdiocese spokesman Joseph Zwilling told the Times.
Ping for later
The Catholic Church’s stance on issues predates the liberal/progressive Democratic Party by more than a few years. It is part and parcel of Church teaching at least since Rerum Novarum which was written both as a concern for the poor and the workingman and as a guide for defending against the extremes of Marxism and Socialism.
I hope so too. I hope Dolan lectures Obama the way Obama lectured the Supreme Court justices during the State of the Union. He can light into Romney too. Both have some 'splainin' to do.
From your lips to Gods ears.
And, if this article is factual, Dolan is willing to have present the guy who will put Catholic hospitals out of business?
Looks like the Marxist-Socialists who make up the staff of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops have faked Dolan out.
Time for a New Cardinal in New York. This is a Vatican matter and an issue that will tell if the Pope protect the Faith or politicians.
In the alternative, I can’t think of a better argument to force the church into Obamacare and to end it’s tax exemption.
Thanks for that sententious, but irrelevant little lecture. The church's teachings sure failed at defending against the extremes of socialism. Unless by defending you mean embracing.
I read that Kerry and Clinton weren't invited, but the article didn't specify whether it was during election years.
I think the cardinal is missing an opportunity to protect the flock from a vicious predator (Alinsky Rule #4). What good are funds for charitable use if the organization gets put out of business?
I realize that the Cardinal may be demonstrating the "heaping coals" thing (Prov 25:22). And that Jesus shared his last meal with his own betrayer. And forgave his tormenters and executioners. And that this may be a teachable moment in some respects. I just don't like it. May the Lord find a way to use this situation for His glory and praise!
Before we start to hyperventilate, inviting both presidential candidates to this dinner is standard practice. And I think the one that Dolan really wants to focus on is probably Romney, who has been irritatingly vague on exactly what he would do about the whole health care thing and had a really bad record in MA for forcing Church organizations and even individual Christians to do things that violated their standards. He forced all state employees to “marry” gays, for example, and forced Catholic hospital emergency rooms to distribute “morning after” pills. So I think Dolan probably wants to pin him down on exactly how, if at all, he differs from Bambi.
Everybody knows what Obama thinks (and in any case, I wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t show up because of some “last minute emergency). But Romney is very evasive on this issue. In fact, Romney’s pretty evasive on all issues.
Veni Creator Spiritus . . .
A trap ? I hope it will be a good trap !
Because the msm will try to spin that as a blessing from the catholic church . The liberal croocks never hesitate to lie and lie again.
On the other hand , there is a vocal part of the catholic church which is very liberal and worship Obama more than J.Christ....(i am catholic )
I’ve been disappointed by Cardinals and Bishops so many times it’s hard not to hyperventilate. If Cardinal Dolan actually uses this forum to advance the termination of Obamacare, I will be the first to admit how wrong I was and how happy I am to be wrong.
They ARE NOT all invited:
“But, in 2004, the New York Times reported, neither President George W. Bush nor Sen. John Kerry were invited; and, in 1996, neither President Bill Clinton nor Sen. Bob Dole were invited. Clinton was reportedly not invited because he had vetoed the ban on partial-birth abortion. Kerry was reportedly not invited because he was a pro-abortion Catholic.”
