Obama: America needs "soul searching" on gun violence

(Reuters) - President Barack Obama said on Monday that mass killings like the shooting rampage at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin were occurring with "too much regularity" and should prompt soul searching by all Americans, but he stopped short of calling for new gun-control laws.

"All of us are heart-broken by what happened," Obama told reporters at the White House a day after a gunman opened fire on Sikh worshippers preparing for religious services, killing six before he was shot dead by a police officer.

But when asked whether he would push for further gun-control measures in the wake of the shootings, Obama said only that he wanted to bring together leaders at all levels of American society to examine ways to curb gun violence.

Yeah, Barry, the mass shootings would be okay if they happened in fits and starts, you know, randomly. That's what you meant, right? Oh, wait a second, you were trying to sound profound and failing miserably. Barry, the shooting rampages usually happen to happen where the shooter has believed he will be unlikely to be met with an armed response. The solution? Teach marksmanship from an early age to as many people as possible and encourage them to carry. Give those who think they'd have easy pickings more than strong evidence that such an attempt would, literally, be shot down. And an added benefit would be that folks in the federal government would, maybe, start to get the same idea when they come up with harebrained ideas to trespass on our liberties. You know, like our Founding Fathers believed and enshrined as the Second Amendment?
