(CNSNews.com) Freshman Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wisc.) said that while government is necessary, it is also something to fear.
Its pretty easy to describe what ails this country because far too many Americans have forgotten the basic premise of what our founders knew, Johnson said in a speech on Friday at the Americans for Prosperity Foundations Defending the American Dream Summit in Washington, D.C.
Whats even more sad is far too many Americans were never taught the basic premise, and it was that government isnt something here to solve our problems, Johnson said.
Government--we need it, Johnson said. But, by and large, government is something to fear because as government grows, our freedoms recede.
Johnson said President Barack Obamas health care law is what motivated him to run for office in 2010. He also said it resonated with him personally because his daughter, who was born with a heart defect, survived because of the excellent medical treatment she received in this country before Obamas law was implemented.
Our story has a happy ending because my wife and I had the freedom to seek out the best medical technique at the time, said Johnson, adding that his daughter is now working as a neo-natal nurse.
Shes now taking care of those babies, Johnson said.
Johnson told the summit attendees, I havent given up hope and I do not want you to give up hope either."
This is why democracy doesn't work, and ultimately leads to tyranny. Our founding fathers were wise in setting America up as a republic. But when the majority says it's ok for our political leaders to break the law wholesale the Republic doesn't do much good.
I don't know what the solution is, but the electoral process isn't it, since it has been corrupted by the liberal press. As far as our Constitution is concerned, it's been used as toilet paper by our elite political class and by our esteemed Supreme Court!
Time to remember what happened in Spain in 1936!
RJ gets it.
Government was never designed to be the friend of the people it “represents”.
That’s why there is a 2nd Amendment.
It is .So why do liberals/democrats trust government and government bureaucrats so much? Morons. Obama has exploded government size and power. This Jug eared Marxist tyrant has to go.
It's a business transaction.
Liberals support government in every way and support politicians who support big government and in return government/politicians take from the producers and give to liberals.
Frankly, I fear the government much like I fear a box of matches in the hands of an unsupervised three-year-old. And both have about the same sense of responsibility.
Yes but how do you explain why the rich liberals/democrats trust government and gov bureaucrats? The media is all liberals who are well off, ditto for Hollywood, college professors etc.many liberals/democrats really love and trust government even though they are rich: as in Sean Penn, Elizabeth warren and all the rich liberals/democrats in Hollywood and the media.
Because, radical leftist movements have ALWAYS duped these types into thinking that once the revolution is over that THEY are the ones that will be in charge. It's because they are SO enlightened.
Fact of the matter is that after every successful leftist revolution, the first people that were purged were the dupes that supported them. The disenfranchised are more dangerous that the opposition as far as leftists are concerned.
In their minds, Government is an evil, but a necessary one. To limit the evil it does, one must limit the government's size, scope, power, responsibility, and reach. Their ideas sparked revolutions around the world, brought us the Industrial Age, changed the face of the planet, have allowed billions to live a life that is not in service to their leaders... and yet, because they thought of these ideas 200+ years ago, you Lefties want to toss their wisdom out, and go back to the "benevolent" dictators of old. How... ironically antiquated.
Bump
Put another way, the Founders knew what they were doing. The Left has no clue as to what actually works to human betterment. Driven by hatred for reality, they can only muck up whatever they seek to reform.
