[history]
President Barack Obamas re-election effort is paying close attention to two candidates mounting third-party campaigns for the presidency, believing they could draw votes from Republican rival Mitt Romney and help Obama win a few tightly contested states.
One candidate is Virgil Goode, a former conservative Virginia congressman who is running as a member of the Constitution Party....."

No. I know what Romney is. He is the establishment candidate, for whom the GOP has decided it is “his turn.”
He is not anywhere near what I would like to see in a candidate (although I did think he was a better choice than McCain in 2008).
But, he is the GOP candidate, and is the only one with a realistic chance to defeat Obama in this election cycle.
So, my choice is either support him, and possibly get Obama out of office, or resign myself to four more years of Obama.
I choose to try to get rid of Obama.

It's really hard to get the conservative vote for a pro-abortion, anti-gun, socialized medicine, big government liberal.
I'll be voting for the most conservative candidate from the top of the ticket to the bottom.
BTW, calling people stupid isn't going to gain your boy any votes.

One candidate is Virgil Goode, a former conservative Virginia congressman who is running as a member of the Constitution Party. The other is Gary Johnson, a former two-term Republican governor of New Mexico who is the Libertarian Partys presidential nominee. Goode is a New Deal, Great Society Democrat, and Johnson is a radical Liberal.

It is not astounding. It is reality and the romney insiders know it. The fact is crystal clear. Obama has ALWAYS needed tricks and manuvers. He “clears the field” rather than win elections.
At least Romney is running for president rather than McCain. McCain ran a senatorial campaign for president.

The GOP would have fewer problems with 3rd party candidates if they would just run a conservative.I've been doing my part to get one elected since Reagan.
Now I'm devoted to denying a racist, crypto marxist, terrorist sympathizing America hating POS a second term.

Good luck with that. The GOP-E has made your task really tough.

even with the known flaws of Romney, there is little odds favoring the signing of radical socialist treaties.
We also have to focus on the senate and the house.

While Romney is NOT my first, second, or third choice, better to have him than four more years of Obama. Four more years would be the doom of this country.

We tried, and failed, to get a more conservative GOP candidate. We need to figure out how to do that for the next election cycle.
The pattern for 2012 was similar to 2008 -- have several 'conservatives' run to dilute the votes. It worked. Even when it was obvious that Gingrich could not win, he hung on. Even when it was obvious that Santorum could not win, he hung on. Neither apparently wanted to give ground, and that gave the nomination to Romney.
Next election cycle? Pick one or two strong conservatives early, and settle on one to take the banner early (as in January or February). That is how a conservative might win. But having half-a-dozen in the debates and primaries only dilutes the vote and gives the nomination to the GOPe preferred candidate. [See GOP history for 2008, 2012.]
==
For 2012 I don't see either the Libertarian or Conservative garnering enough votes to make much of a difference -- unless one of them turns out to be spectacular in the next month or two. And this does not appear likely.
This election cycle has not yielded itself to a strong 3rd party. The last major one -- Perot in 1992 -- had money and organization early. Unless the Dems can convince some Bloomberg or similar 'big name' to jump in, a 3rd party is not going to do much for the 2012 election.
To get Obama out of the Oval Office, Romney needs to stay on message -- the economy and joblessness [gas prices are rising again substantially]. He needs to say away from the various mine fields the Dems keep laying to try to get him off message.

If I were Obama, Id be urging Democratic supporters who have maxed out their contributions to donate to Johnson and Goode. Id also have them donate to Super PACs for those candidates.
I'd also have trolls working overtime on conservative forums posting stuff designed to dissuade conservatives from joining the fight to get Obama out of the WH.
Actually, I bet they're already doing all of the above.

See, this is the way Free Republic now works.
You're voting for Romney? Make sure you call those Freepers who disagree with you "trolls" and "Obots" and "DNC moles".
You're not voting for Romney? Make sure you call those Freepers who disagree with you "Mittbots" and "liberals" and "homo enablers".
Way to win supporters to your cause !!

And please dont give me that youll be responsible for reelecting Obama speech. Don't worry,I won't.If admissions from the Osama Obama campaign *itself* can't convince you, what chance do *I* have? Tell me,once he's been given four more years of Executive Orders how much ammunition will *you* be buying? And don't forget to stock up on that disaster food....you know, the stuff that has a 20 year shelf life.
