RNC Convention Speakers Feature Rice, Martinez, Haley in Star-Studded Lineup
Townhall.com ^ | August 5, 2012 | Elisabeth Meinecke

Sounds like fun already ... the Tampa Bay Times released the names of some of the speakers slated for the RNC convention in Tampa later this month, and it looks to be a promising lineup. The Times reported that, as of now, it's unclear where these speakers are slotted, and the rest of the lineup--including the keynote speaker--remains unknown. Names so far include conservative powerhouses New Mexico Gov. Susanna Martinez and South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley. Florida Gov. Rick Scott is also speaking.

Here's a portion of the Times report:

Florida Gov. Rick Scott, Sen. John McCain and former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice are among seven headline speakers announced today for the Republican National Convention in Tampa.

The first look at featured speakers also includes South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, Ohio Gov. John Kasich and New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez.

The keynote speaker and others will be named closer to the Aug. 27-30 event, Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus said in announcing the headliners, whom he called "some of our party's brightest stars, who have governed and led effectively and admirably in their respective roles."

So far, the lineup looks off to a fairly good start. Conservatives will definitely be represented well--both socially, with the inclusion of Mike Huckabee, and practically, with competent and current gubernatorial voices like Martinez and Haley--and Rice remains a popular figure in the GOP.

So, what is your solution for this election?

The very post to which you counterposted that querulous quaver is the one where I posted my answer: 67 GOP senators. Perhaps you neglected to read it before you hit "POST".

That'll stop the b.s., no matter who's in 1600 ..... unless it's Mittens and he calls in all his party-leadership chips to turn the GOP caucus to voting with the 'Rats! ["Oooooh , he would SO not do that!" Yeah, right.]

RE :”Why would it be stupid to put him on the list? He was the 2008 nominee after all. Maybe you think because you and others in here don’t like him the RNC should say there are freepers who don’t like McCain so we won’t let him speak? Sorry but it doesn’t work that way, and btw he was my third choice in 2008 and I voted for him in the general election. I have and will always vote for the nominee whehter you like it or not

Calm down.
The RNC will put McCain on the list. They dont care what we think. Why would they? They will always assume we will support them no matter what they do.

That is what they are about. After all Romney is a Republican establishment liberal. McCain the RINO is abuddy of Romney. Look at him attacking Bachmann recently.

The RNC is out to prove the Democrats main point : That this is the same party that put Obama and Pelosi in power in 2006 and 2008.

Nothing changed there.

These same ignoramuses also are to blame that we lost the House and the Senate in 2006 and that Pelosi, Reid and 0bama were able to ram the 0bamaHealt6h care down our throat in 2009

It was the Tea Party who came to the polls in 2010, and the ramming stopped!

Also, please remember that it was Manor Bush and the RNC Ivy League princelings who were incumbent during the 2006 disaster, and who were still incumbent in the Oval Office when Barky achieved his all-concealing, all-empowering MSM chrestomathy and "immaculation".

The Tea Party didn't do any of that, and none of the bad things that have happened, contrary to what the RNC bullsteerers will tell you, have been caused by the "moral downfallenness" and "lack of education, preparation, and sophistication" and "bigotry" and "racism" and "nativism" and "backwardness" of Tea Party Conservatives, but only by people like Olympia Snowe and John McCain and Chuck Hagel and the infamous Lisa Murkowski voting with the Marxist-Leninists.

With that said, we all know how malleable Mitt is so if we have a strong Conservative House and Senate, he can be pulled to the right jut as easily as he was pulled to the left in Mass

Willard was NOT pulled to the left in Mass. He was to the left of Kennedy and bragged about it. Geesh!

Vet the guy will ya!

I vetted him four years ago and nothing has changed my mind in that I did not want him, but the reality is that we have him now or Obama. You make your choice. Geesh! Reality sucks sometimes.

Bottom-bottom line: The fate of the Republic does not revolve around helping Mitt Romney get into the White House, but in putting together a strong GOP strict constructionist majority in Congress.

Fixed it for you. We already have too many weak-kneed GOP in Congress.

I saw on her bio is that she voted against Tort reform while in the state legislature and that may be because her hubby is a trial lawyer.

That is why I'm voting for Brunner tomorrow.

THAT is why I will vote for Romney

That's EXACTLY what i've been saying. This election is not just about one man.We have to see the big picture! I'm no Romney fan but with enough conservatives in the House and Senate,we can keep Romney in check.People are too willing to piss and moan and whine instead of using the grassroots movement to effect change in Congress,as well as in the WH.We know our POTUS candidate;now get to know the Senator/Congressman/woman candidates in your state and roundly support them! Time to weed through the BS and get to work!

Why would Rice be invited to speak? Is there any evidence she is a conservative, let alone a Republican?

“The same can be asked of you.”

Since I am not likely to be asked to speak at the Republican convention, I suppose your comment must have been addressed to my second question: “Is there any evidence she is a conservative, let alone a Republican?”

While I admit it can be argued whether I am a Republican, there is no question that I am a conservative. If not, pull up my posting history and prove otherwise.

Now, since you seem to have taken issue with my question about Rice, can you point me to information regarding her views on whether she prefers the Fair Tax over the flat tax, what federal departments she favors eliminating, how she would devolve power back to the states, her views on the RKBA, if she supports round-ups of illegals (such as Sheriff Joe Arpaio conducts), repeal of ObummerCare, etc., etc. If, in fact, Miss Rice is a conservative I have missed her pronoucements that would indicate such. Perhaps you can enlighten me.

If she is a solid conservative, I would be glad to learn that. If she is not, why would she be invited to speak? Didn’t she support Zero in 2008?

Reagan mentioned something about rebuilding the Republican party and that a third party wasn’t the answer to our woes.I’d follow his lead. Weed out the RINOs,send a clear message to the rest that they better snap-to and do what we elected them to do or hit the road, and we will see a GOP that truly represents us.

” Remove McCain and replace him with Scott Walker.
It’s just stupid to put McCain up there.”

McCain will hurt us, because that has been his goal since 2000. He hates conservatives. He is also a head case. Horrible choice.

What? You mean the mem of diversity and crusty old men, one of which is a consummate Leftist, the other an uninspiring throw back to the 90s, doesn’t spark your political juices.

Why don’t you go back to D. U.? What’s that you say? Oh, that’s what they do support over at D. U. Hmmm...

Now go Rense Prebus. Yeah! Great job... I know Conservatives will get behind this. Yea! On to victory...

"some of our party's brightest stars, who have governed and led effectively and admirably in their respective roles."

Sen. John McCain? Are you kidding me? Former Ark. Gov Mike "I can put you to sleep"? These are not STARS, These are Peasants. I wouldn't shake McCains hand if he walked into my office. Huckabee is incapable of Riling up ANYONE, much less a group at a Republican Convention. I'm really embarrassed by reading this article. What a G.D. Sleepfest. Condi Rice contributes nothing, but she'll probably incite the crowd the most, of everyone listed.
