Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is putting on a blitz for Missouri Republican Senate candidate Sarah Steelman after endorsing her two weeks ago.
The 2008 vice presidential candidate is appearing with Steelman at a barbecue in Cleveland, Missouri near Kansas City Friday. This represents Palin's first campaign appearance with Steelman since the endorsement, CNN reports. Palin appeared in an ad and recorded a robocall for Steelman earlier this week.
Palin has high praise for the former state treasurer: "Sarah is an economist who defends our tax dollars like a mama grizzly defends her cubs," Palin said.
Right back at you, the candidate says. "I am so grateful to have Gov. Palin's support, and very excited to say she will be coming into Missouri to participate in this BBQ," Steelman said in a statement. "I know she will excite folks to come out and take a strong stand against the status quo."
Steelman faces a hotly-contested primary Tuesday against businessman John Brunner and Rep. Todd Akin. The winner takes on vulnerable Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill. A recent Mason-Dixon poll showed Brunner leading with 33 percent support, followed by Steelman with 27 percent, and Akin with 17 percent.
Palin has a perfect endorsement record for Senate primaries this year. She backed winners Orrin Hatch in Utah, Deb Fischer in Nebraska, and Ted Cruz in Texas.
As for Steelman, the Tea Party Express also supports her. It sent out an appeal for donations Thursday saying, "With all of the political world's focus on the Senate election in Texas, which resulted in Tea Party candidate Ted Cruz's victory, the Missouri race has been over-shadowed. We are sounding the alarm that the election is this Tuesday."

From the few polls I’ve read about this race, Steelman had the largest lead in a hypothetical matchup with McCaskill - something on the order of 10-12 points. I confess I don’t know much about Brunner or the other GOP primary candidates, but Steelman sounds like a very strong candidate for the general election.
Palin/Steelman ping!
I checked Realclear and she and Brunner were about equal. The race has closed but McCaskill is underwater as is Obama in MO. MO has shifted to the right since 2008 when McCain barely won. I worry about Brunner’s money. He’s been doing a Dewhurst dumping on Steelman to drive her down.
Love it!
Sarah. Serving Conservative sandwiches for liberals to choke on.
Steelman and Akin are both professional politicians. Brunner is not.
We have enough professional politicians.
Brunner is the best candidate by far.
I donated to Steelman’s campaign today.
Dont know much about these candidates but you say Brunner is the best one. Can you elaborate a bit on it? I take it he’s no Dewhurst RINO in Tx. If thats the case then Sarah Palin should be somewhat neutral if both candidates are Tea Party worthy IMHO.
I admit, I came looking for pics...
Amen to that, bro!
Democrats signal eagerness to face Todd Akin in Missouri
Steelman was the lone Republican opposing tort reform in Missouri.
Sarah Steelman's History of Supporting Trial Attorneys and Opposing Tort Reform
That alone disqualifies her, in my opinion.
Brunner puts his money where his mouth is. He is a staunch supporter of the troops. He rebuilt his family's business from near-bankruptcy. He has never held public office. He believes in small business as the backbone of the economy. He's old enough that he's not going to be there forever. He wants to get government out of the way.
See, I’m leaning toward Brunner for the reasons you mention and I really do think he’s the one Claire most dreads running against. I want to vote the right way Tuesday, because this is an important race. And it’s true Steelman is a professional politician who was for tarp and quite a bit of spending.
But my mind is still open - anyone else?
Honestly I don’t know a lot about these candidates however initial research of Steelman seems to have an impressive record and she’s been endorsed by the Tea Party Express. However honestly Brunner has an impressive record as a businessman and doesn’t seem like a Rhino and he I believe was endorsed by Freedomworks. I’ve watched them both in debate footage and neither of them really put me off. There was Brunner’s enthusiastic support for Romney but I’m not going to pretend he is Rhino because he isn’t. The US Chamber supports Brunner but the ad they ran attacking Steelman appears to have been just one big lie. I’ll defer to Palin on this one. We are going to get a conservative either way.
I have been attempting to make such points with nothing negative toward Palin, except that I think she responded to the Steelman request for support too quickly or it may be "gender identity" politics as you state.
Besides being a fav of trial lawyers, Steelman has also done the bidding of MO unions.
Not a good sign for any true conservative.
“....Brunner puts his money where his mouth is....”

Kind of like Dewhurst in Texas! Dewhurst and Brunner also both LOVE negative campaigning—birds of a feather.
Vote for Sarah Steelman. She is a true conservative who is (from everything I’ve seen) most likely immune to the possibility of being seduced by the “go along to get along” type of Republican endemic in the GOPe in Washington.
