The Secretary of State in Ohio is a powerful position that has authority over Ohio elections. That position is currently in the hands of a republican, Jon Husted. With a republican governor, John Kasich, a republican legislature, and a republican Ohio Supreme Court, it is likely that Ohio will vigorously defend its position that troops receive a few extra days to vote.

As a retired Army vet, and with children who are also military, I can attest that it is much harder to vote when in the military, and especially if that military member is overseas. Even if in a relatively calm place like Germany, the paperwork and delays in getting an official absentee ballot tend to discourage voting. If overseas in a dangerous area or a remote area, compound that difficulty exponentially.

It is a criminal act to obstruct the vote of someone who currently has his/her life on the line on behalf of this nation. If I were Commander in Chief, I’d order the chiefs of all services to have ballot access a battalion requirement, and I would put the percentage of troops not receiving ballots on a battalion commander’s Officer Efficiency Report.

A judge should just throw the case out of court.

First, no harm has been done or been proven. The event has not occurred yet.

Second, the state has every right to determine how it will handle elections within its boundaries. This is not the role of the Federal Government. So where is Obama’s standing?

Third, every Governor in an affected state being harassed by the Federal Government and Eric Holder should decree that its laws will be followed on Election Day, and that’s that.
