Politics: As he flies into an Ohio air base that budget cuts will close, the president won't also be visiting an Ohio coal-mining operation shut down by his policies. Hey, isn't he trying to win that state?
As Air Force One touched down Wednesday in Mansfield, Ohio, President Obama found himself at the site of one of the possible casualties of his defense cuts the 179th Airlift Wing of the Ohio Air National Guard. It employs more than 200 airmen and more than 550 part-time employees.
Despite administration denials, the 179th Airlift Wing may be doomed. It was targeted for elimination once before during the 2005 base closings process. Now its primary aircraft, the C27J, is scheduled to be decommissioned, declared by the Pentagon in its 2012 budget as no longer cost-effective.
A stop not scheduled during the president's third visit to the battleground state in four weeks was a coal-mining operation near Brilliant, Ohio, run by Ohio American Energy Inc., a subsidiary of Murray Energy Corp. The operation employed 239 workers at its peak but will be closing as the result of President Obama's environmental policies.
Regulatory actions by President Obama and his appointees and followers were cited as the entire reason in the press release that announced the closing. "Mr. Obama has already destroyed 83,000 megawatts of coal-fired electricity generation in America," said Michael T.W. Carey, vice president of government affairs for Murray Energy. "Electric prices in the recent PJM Interconnection monthly auction were bid up 800% for 2015-16 because of this," he added.
PJM Interconnection, the company that operates the electric grid for 13 states, including Ohio, recently held its 2015 capacity auction. This gave the first real indication of just how drastic the effects of Obama's war on coal will be.

This reminds me of Peppy Le Pew walking by the flowers as they die from the stench.
Devastating info like this needs to be included in political ads. We must go to the polls and vote this America hating goon out of office.
The regime LIES...again.
Close air bases
Shut down coal mines
"But vote for me, anyway...I'm a good guy".
SNEAR.
War on coal pimg
Maybe I’m wrong about this, but I thought the decline of coal involved more than just environmental policies. Here in the Northeast we’ve seen coal displaced by natural gas as a preferred form of energy for power generation, as more and more Marcellus Shale projects come on line.
“Despite administration denials, the 179th Airlift Wing may be doomed.”
The gutting of America’s Military and defense, continues...
Wake up America.
You are correct. The historic low price of natural gas is making it a preferred fuel in some cases.
Yet how do you explain the exponential (800%) increase in costs?
“PJM Interconnection, the company that operates the electric grid for 13 states, including Ohio, recently held its 2015 capacity auction. This gave the first real indication of just how drastic the effects of Obama’s war on coal will be. The market-clearing price for new 2015 capacity was $136 per megawatt.
That’s eight times higher than the price for 2012, which was just $16 per megawatt. In Pennsylvania, the new market price is $167 per megawatt 10 times higher. In northern Ohio, which is suffering from more forced coal-plant retirements than the rest of the region, the 2015 price is an astounding $357 per megawatt.”
Well, Obama said his policies would necessarily ‘skyrocket’ energy prices. Hope you don’t live in Pennsylvania.
No you are not... As an interested observer in the industry I noticed the grid coal / gas percentages have changed dramatically via the Fracking Revolution as Gas has a lower price point now.
Coal lost something like 5% points from 44% down to 39% that is a marginal decline of greater than 10%.
What is a shame is they have not found a use for the coal i.e. coal to oil via the Fisher Tropsch process to make "JP" fuels for our military and domestic airliner fleet.
175+ coal plants to be shut-down ... 9+ gigawatts in 2012, alone!

United Mine Workers were notorius democrat supporters....I wonder how that is working out for them!!!
Isn’t Ohio already in the bag for Obama? What a bunch of suckers.....
357 dollars a megawatt which means a 35 cents a kilowatt/hr?
(not to mention the various taxes and fees that will push that close to 50 cents a kilowatt hour) Those prices will devestate those states.
Natural gas prices are not even close to as stable as coal prices have been. With gas get ready for not only an increase in the price of electricity, but also instability.
Qick question: do these coal plants have a pre-built system in place to accept gas as the fuel source? One day they run coal and the next day they flip a switch to run on gas?
Is there a massive move going on to retro fit these plants and if so wouldn’t that effect a rise in employment to hire the construction crews to perform this work?
Something or someone’s logic doesn’t add up.
No better way to kill an economy than raise the price of energy. People need to start understanding the relationship between parasites and hosts. The government is the biggest and most dangerous parasite of all, its regulations are what is about 95% responsible for the increases of the price of electricty in the last 10-15 years. Time for the consumers to take that up with the government they elected to serve them, not kill them by sucking out all their blood.
