Americus Reed, a marketing professor at University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School who studies brand loyalty, says Cathy underestimated what might happen once his comments to a niche religious publication and a syndicated radio show spread to a wider audience.
"I think this is part of the wake-up call for companies to understand that social media makes these decisions very, very risky," Reed said, "because it's much easier now for these messages to get out to consumers and consumers to virtually organize."

“If there was one in my area I would.”
The closest one to me is 40 miles away (near Travis AFB).
I’m gonna crank up the Harley today, and go anyway. And I’ve never been to a CFA before.
Worth it.
That company has been in financial trouble for a long time despite pandering to "traditional families" for its entire existence. They had to do something and they did. Layoffs were already expected before the flap as part of restructuring.
Chick-Fil-A will 'win' short term but it's anyone's guess if it'll be sustained. Any business needs a steady supply of new customers and if young people do not become patrons over this issue, he'll eventually go out of business.
Bought chicken biscuits for the employees this am..80 of them. The girl at the counter had a jaw drop on that one..and I was not the only person buying in bulk.
DINKs. Dual income, no kids.
I agree with you. I’ve never eaten there because I’m vegetarian (yes, I know, that’s like saying I’m an alien here) but I’ve eaten there 2x in the last 4 days.
Being a DINK would have no impact on this as the money spent on kids is money that counts as money being spent.
They gay dollars have the same value as regular dollars.
Sounds like class warfare rhetoric to me but, setting that aside, I don't know gays with that kind of buying power ($130K per year on goods/services) and tax data tells me there's very, very few Americans in that category period.
These days the homosexuals I know are just getting by, several looking for work, like anyone else.
It's about choices. If "regular people" choose to have more kids or one chooses not to work or be underemployed for flexibility in the home, they'll have less money for other things. If they have fewer kids, the opposite is true. If they delay having children into your late 20s, early 30s, you may be better off financially and they as well.
One irony I see is if they were encouraged to pair off and adopt or have children through surrogacy their "buying power" would drop in line with heterosexual couples who make those choices.
Lastly, you won't find many homosexuals as teen parents either.
James Okeefe exposed NPR when he did and interview posing as Muslims willing to spend $5mil to get out a favorable view of the Muslim Brotherhood.

Why do people listen to them?
They will continue to grow and add customers because they have a good product at a reasonable price and they have the best customer service not only in the industry (fast food) but maybe for any industry. There is not one full service high end restaurant I have EVER been to that compares to the consistent friendly customer service of CFA.
Liberal fools like this make me wish for another civil war: Them on one side, people who understand the importance of the biblical worldview to the survival of America on the other. It would be bloodless, because liberals are self-obsessed and would just run away, to France or somewhere else that’s “enlightened”.
Marketing is when you listen to HuffPo, Maddow, Matthews et al and "sell" their twisted logic to your students, who just need another couple of credits to pass the course.
I plan on going there today. Get grilled chicken and coleslaw with ice tea.
Cut all money to NPR and PBS.
Loved my chicken biscuit this morning.
And anti-Christian bilge such as this is a wake-up call to Christians to elect more TEA Party/small government candidates who will pull taxpayer funding from this ungodly waste of our hard-earned money.
Conservatives should not fund NPR or PBS Leftists. It’s like paying for the bullets they are shooting at us.
Wow, a two-fer....Black and Homosexual. UP gets extra points for that on their Affirmative Action Hires list.
