A Public Policy Polling poll released Sunday evening reports Ted Cruz has a 52 percent to 42 percent advantage over Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst on the eve of Tuesday’s Texas GOP Senate runoff.
From PPP’s analysis:
Cruz's victory is driven by 4 things: the Tea Party, the enthusiasm of his supporters, a generational divide within the Texas Republican ranks, and the lack of regard the party base currently holds for Rick Perry.
Cruz is ahead by a whooping 75-22 margin with Tea Party voters, more than making up for a 56-39 deficit to Dewhurst with voters who don't consider themselves members of that movement. There has been too much of a tendency to ascribe any Republican primary upset over the last few years to Tea Party voters, but this is one case where it's well justified.
Cruz has a 63-33 advantage with voters who describe themselves as 'very excited' about voting in Tuesday's runoff election. He also has a 49-45 advantage with those describing themselves as 'somewhat excited.' The only reason this race is even remotely competitive is Dewhurst's 59-31 lead with voter who say they're 'not that excited' about voting. It's an open question whether those folks will really show up and if they don't it's possible Cruz could end up winning by closer t0 20 points.
The greater excitement among Cruz voters can also be measured by their eagerness to get out and cast their ballots during the early voting period. Cruz leads 55-40 among those who say they've already voted, so Dewhurst will likely need a huge advantage among election day voters to overcome the deficit. But Cruz has a 49-44 lead with those who have yet to vote too.

CW, might be good to review what the TexSOS says on VoteTexas.gov.
Their site seems to say the only restriction is you can not vote in both runoffs.
It will be interesting to see the final tally tomorrow night as indications are that Cruz has the momentum at this stage. Early in person/mail ballots are down by some 100,000 over the primary totals for the largest 15 counties in Texas. The entergized voters are more likely to vote in this runoff when there is a small number of races on the ballot and almost no local candidates in runoffs.
I’m not from Texas and just follow this on FR. What is attractive about Dewhurst to TEA Partiers?
Oh Hell, there was someone yesterday on FR saying he saw the DewHurts ad saying Dew had been in the Mil and Cruz had not, and that was good enough for him to vote DewHurts.

Dewhurst is eGop, Cruze is the TEA party choice.
Texas doesn’t register voters by party. If you did not vote in the primary and are a registered voter you can vote in the runoff of either party. If you voted in the primary you can only vote in the runoff for the party in which you voted in during the primary.

Sec. 172.125. ADDITIONAL PROCEDURE FOR ACCEPTING VOTERS IN RUNOFF.
(a) For a runoff primary election, the voter registrar shall enter on the list of registered voters a notation beside each voter’s name indicating the preceding party primary for which the voter was accepted for voting, if any.
(b) An election officer at a runoff primary election polling place shall determine whether the name of a voter offering to vote is noted on the list as having been accepted for voting in another party’s primary. If the voter’s name is so noted, the voter may not be accepted for voting at the runoff unless the voter executes an affidavit stating that the voter did not vote in the primary or participate in a convention of another party during the same voting year.

Dewhurst was invited to speak before our tea party group and refused. Cruz came, brought his father who introduced Ted and is a very impressive man himself, and Cruz gave a great presentation. It is my understanding Dewhurst refused to meet with most other tea party groups as well.
One can vote July 31 in the Republican primary (1) if he did not vote in the May 29 Democratic primary, or (2) if he did not vote in either primary on May 29.
This 21 percent probably does not even know what “TEA” stands for, totally uninformed ones.
Already voted for Cruz.
Another reason Cruz is ahead. . .probably due to backlash in response to the over-the-top very nasty and vile negative character assassination attacks by Dewhurst.
Just plain awful. . .to use a crying mother who’s son committed suicide. . .and to blame Cruz for that. . .
That ad was despicable, that ad had to be an embarrassment to at least some of the outsiders who endorsed Dewhurst, such as Huckabee and Michael Reagan. I doubt those two expected Dewhurst to pull low-life stuff like that when they endorsed him.
I had originally decided that whomever won would be fine, but I'm thinking Dewhurst doesn't have anything of substance to offer.
Open primaries, where Democrat can cross-over and influence Republican nominations, have got to stop. Can’t Texas Republicans put an end to them?
“If you’re in TX25, vote for Wes Riddle for Congress. The Riddle/Garrison race is a Cruz/Dewhurst race in miniature. Garrison is another GOP insider who thinks it should be his turn at the trough. Riddle is the real deal Constitutional patriot.”
My first choice in TX-25 was former Railroad Commissioner Michael Williams, but he didn’t make the run-off. Michael Williams was the true grassroots, TEA Party conservative in the race. Riddle appears to be the candidate of Ron Paul and his acolytes, and, frankly, I’d rather have Roger Williams that another Paulistinian in Congress.
Dewhurst needs to be crushed to humiliate the GOPe.
