#NBC Fail: Network's Olympic Disaster Earns Global Social Media Mockery
twictcy.com ^ | Sunday July 29,2012 | Twitcy.Com

NBC has united the world…in scorn, contempt, and mockery of its gaffe-plagued, stone-age Olympics coverage. Cutting the tribute to the 7/7 London Islamic terror victims from the network’s opening ceremonies coverage was just the tip of the iceberg.

Yesterday, the #NBCFail hashtag erupted worldwide and showed no signs of let-up. Ridiculous tape delays, news/programming spoilers, arrogant tweets from former NPR executive-turned-NBC chief digital officer Vivian Schiller, geographic errors, and streaming woes have earned the peacock network global social media mockery.

This is the worst coverage of any Olympics we’ve ever watched. It’s so disorganized and chopped up that the viewer can’t get interested in it. We gave up and watched a movie instead.

Their sponsors ought to ask for at least half their money back.

I’ve lost interest in the Olympics. Don’t plan on watching but a few, if any events.

The “networks” have worked hard to become the enemy of the American people. “I hope they fail”, as Rush would say.

I am concerned that we once again will entrust the Presidential debates to them, airing them, composing and asking their gotcha gotcham gotcha questions, and their smirks and sighs.

I have watched none of it and won’t. What else does anyone expect to see when they ask a professional question of Romney, he give a professional’s answer and he gets lambasted for their definition of a gaff?

The Olympics is supposed to not be about politics but sport and nationalism. You have an American journalist asking for a professional evaluation and Romney answered with exactly what he was reading in the US and mostly British press.

I still don’t like Romney as the nominee but one positive thing came out of that answer, I would rather know the truth than to be told what they think I want or need to hear. My hope didn’t last long though as Romney the next day gave another nuanced political answer to a professional question. Hey Romney, grow a spine of something other than semolina. Because we all know noodles get a little wobbly when the heat is turned up.

Before the start of the olympics I went to the NBC site to “get started” so I could watch on my computer. What a disaster!. I have adobe flash, and the required att uverse account but still I couldn’t get on. I finally gave up and I am watching tennis on Bravo and recording swimming to watch later.

What’s NBC’s response so far?

NBC digital operations chief Vivian Schiller is showing the same tone-deaf arrogance that led to her resignation at NPR after being caught trashing conservatives on tape.

Get her a gold medal for poor sportsmanship:

Vivian Schiller does not belong in US Media. She belongs in the Politburo.

I just want a usable schedule grid of what will be on when. Not the interactive mess that they have on their web site.

I gave up on NBC coverage decades ago. Nothing but fluff, and only the bare highlights of the chosen athletes.

Then, the few times I tried to watch anything, they concentrated on the what their on-air personalities were wearing, and travel problems, etc. (Take an Imodim, and go back to NYC...)

Knowing that all the NBC channels would be flooded with it, I put it out of my mind.

Oh, and I saw on Drudge that Ban Ki-Moon carried the torch. Not that NBC was involved, but no thanks. What are the Brits thinking?

My daughter tweeted, “Is this Bob Costas last Olymics? Does he just want it to be his last?”

“It’s so disorganized and chopped up that the viewer can’t get interested in it.”

You said it. We watched part of the opening ceremonies, which were so awful it was unbelievable. The NHS & Children’s Lit - as Basil Fawlty asked “Is that what made Britain great?”

Then last night, we tuned in for a bit. We see 2 male gymnasts do 2 routines, maybe it was 3, that was a bit confusing. Then, they go to Costas & Viera and they’re talking about.....the opening cermonies!

I went outside to have a cigarette, hubby came out a few minutes later and I said “are they still nattering on about that cr*p?” He said “They went to Ryan Seacrest, I don’t even know what they’re doing.”

This was prime time, 10 o’clock on Saturday.

And even the people covering the events, I don’t know what the heck they are doing. The guys covering the gymnasts kept talking about stuff that had happened in the past, but not explaining WHAT had happened.

About one competitor they said “After his big disappointment at the World Championship, it was amazing he came back to win gold on pommel horse” He didn’t say what was the disappointment.

They were talking about the scores and one said “They score different events differently, that’s why we are using the red-yellow-green color coding on your screen”.

That was it, nothing further about how the events are scored or how that relates to the color coding.

So far I’ve watched about an hour and a half, I guess, I’ve seen 3 fellows compete, been completely confused by the people who are supposed to be explaining the events to me, and the rest of the time had my intelligence insulted by stupid, left-wing, propaganda, fart jokes from Mr. Bean and the silly idea that the elderly Queen parachuted out of a helicopter.

So yeah, so far it’s an epic fail.

I hope it improves, I actually rather like the summer olympics, but it’s very disappointing so far.

They all pulled some videos of events from their website — so those venues [such as USA men’s gymnastics] could only be seen, chopped up, interspersed with commercials, inundated with inane talk-overs, and segments played throughout their evening programming.

Too bad that NBC gets to ruin another Olympics. They have been doing it since the mid 90s.

While I’d wish NBC luck...I suspect that they are thirty percent off viewership compared to the past Olympics. I don’t think the location matters...or the great personal interest stories...it’s just the way that NBC is covering things. People have gotten smarter over the past decade and see through failed media events.

I just got through reading the Fox News story on Why the IOC will never memorialize the '72 Munich massacre

http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2012/07/27/why-ioc-will-never-memorialize-72-munich-massacre/#ixzz2213K9LbF

Written by one of the sons whose father was murdered. The details he shares of the atrocities committed and the organizers position is enough for me to say no more.

I have no desire to show support to a reprehensible and vile organization! Ask your daughter to read and share. Most thinking people will find it revolting.
