The major transitional element of today's London Olympics opening ceremony was a downtempo performance of adoptive sporting anthem "Abide With Me" by Scottish singer Emeli Sandé. The song and accompanying dance were a tribute to the victims of the 7/7 terror attacks in London that claimed 52 victims days after the 2012 Summer Olympic hosts were named. (It's also been suggested the performance was a memorial to the war dead.)

Oh right - I was wondering why you guys weren’t commenting on this.
NBC censored it huh?
Did the US flag dip?
NBC?
I was wondering which network paid to broadcast the Olympics.
Hope they lose their shirts.
I won’t be watching.
I’ll be eating at Chick-fil-A.
BFL
To call it ‘adoptive sporting anthem’ is a poor description. It is best known as the hymn played by the Titanic orchestra as the ship went down.
Yeah - those two reporters that talked the whole through the entire opening ceremonies -— what’s with that...we can figure out what’s going on...I wish there was a way to mute them and continue to watch the opening without their stupid comments...
I was also wondering why that interview was moved in there...and now I now...I hate NBC reporters...especially Lauer!
Nothing like that happened. All visitor flags were treated on the same basis: pack-planted on a slope.
“Did the US flag dip?”
I don’t know - didn’t watch the opening ... but the One who is supposed to honor the flag (promote, defend, and protect it) ACTS LIKE a “dip.”
To me, the most emotional moment (cause we didn’t see the tribute that this thread is about) was when the choir sang “God Save the Queen” while the honor guard brought in the flag. I thought that was probable the classiest part of the whole ceremony.
In the UK, it is best known as the anthem played (and sung along to all fans in the stadium) at the English FA Cup Final in May, traditionally the last soccer game played in England before the season ends.
Costas on the other hand, was real good. He lambasted the lack of an observation of the Munich massacre, and even more shocking, literally said that Mitt Romney saved the 2002 Winter Olympics.
Thanks for the link, our media sux......

That would be matt laurer and what appeared to be Bruce Jenner in drag
I'm not watching any of it. I'm watching paint dry.
When it was revealed who was carrying the olympic flag. All socialist leftists, that put the damper on for me on an already subpar opening ceremony that dragged on way to long.

There were two sections of the actual opening we didn’t see, the one referenced here, which NBC cut, and one that was made by the BBC to start their opening (with the Sherlock Holmes guy Benedict Cumberbatch), which in our country was replaced either by a series of shots with american and other athletes, or an interview with our gymnasts(?).
