Omaha, Nebraska (CNN) -- An alleged victim of a hate crime in Nebraska spoke out for the first time Thursday, the same day that more than a thousand people rallied in support of the victim that police say was assaulted by masked men who carved homophobic slurs into her body.

Always suspicious when “victims” lawyer up.
I know and it’s vile: I believe staging a hate crime and gathering hundreds for vigils and receiving national attention and donations, not to mention wasting the valuable time of law enforcement and FBI agents ought to be a major felony with prison time.
Video of interview with her. The neighbor whose house she “crawled” to told of her having a big cut on her forehead that was bleeding badly. I guess she heals quickly because I couldn’t see any evidence of it. I lean towards hoax but who knows. If it really happened, I hope they catch the guys and lock them up. I’m just doubtful.
I’m going to “wait and see” on this one too. If its true, its a horrible crime and the criminals need to be locked up for a long time — whether or not this is a “hate crime.” But I agree that this is suspicious — no real damage and no deep injuries. Looks a lot like “show” damage and injuries. And I agree that real criminals would have done a lot more — stolen things, pillaged the house, perhaps raped her or really beaten her if they truly hated gay people.
Not a word about gay slurs carved into the so-called victim's body.
My It-Probably-Is-A-Hoax meter went off when I read in the original thread that ‘she’ claimed the house was ‘doused’ with gasoline, yet the resulting fire only did $200.00 worth of damage.
DING DING DING
$200 worth of damage in this day would be done my just knocking out a screen on a screen door or breaking a window or getting a stain on the carpet.
I'm aware of several such cases in the last ten years.
“We found u dyke” was spray-painted on the wall? Found, as in located? Wouldn’t “we got u” be better suited to the medium? Or just “got u?”
BTW, zip ties are a sissified way to bind someone, and no more difficult to escape than duct tape, which is always present when 2 or more guys gather.
OH NOES! You broke the code. You better watch your back... you may want to stay with another lady friend for awhile... but we'll find you eventually...
Another “fake, but true” attack...*eye roll*
A quick summary of things which seem suspicious:
* the use of zip ties rather than rope (enabling victim to do it herself)
* superficial damage to herself (despite attackers filled with rage)
* superficial damage to her house (despite attackers filled with rage)
* spray painted graffiti neatly done (why even bother if you’re going to burn the house down?)
* she has three dogs, yet they apparently didn’t make a commotion
* neighbors didn’t hear anything
* no sign of forced entry
These are based on comments here and on the thread linked to from here. Just thought it would be convenient to put everything together in one post.
Thank you for doing so, Humbug :-). Also, the fact that she has now obtained and attorney who is doing all her speaking for her is highly suspicious.
Maybe the police are looking for receipts and will catch surveillance footage of her purchasing the spray paint and zip ties somewhere. Seen this happen in a couple of cases. In any case, I hope they find solid proof soon and charge her, now that they can’t grill her as she lawyered up.
If I thought such an attack had really occurred I would be praying for the offenders to be caught. But all signs in this case point back to the “victim”. The story doesn’t just smell, it reeks.
The carving of naughty words is more of a female thing. You're right, a male attacker would have raped her, or otherwise sexually humiliated her.
Excellent point, well made, thanks!
Somebody broke into my apt. once and beat the crap out of me. I had a huge gash on my forehead and a very sore neck. Very profuse bleeding. At the ER, a cosmetic surgeon was called in. Within a week all of swelling, black and blue face had gone away. All that was left was a thin red line on my forehead. Nothing was stolen or ransacked. To this day I still don’t know who did it or why. Probably mistaken identity. I didn’t get to appear on CNN though. Besides I just wanted to put it behind me. Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction. I suspect this case is a hoax. Having been through a similar experience it doesn’t sound right.
Clearly, this incident should disqualify Nebraskans from being able to vote this November. Bill coming from Schumer.
