STATE COLLEGE, Pa. The famed statue of Joe Paterno was taken down from outside the Penn State football stadium Sunday as the NCAA announced it would be issuing sanctions against the university whose top officials were accused in a scathing report of burying child sex abuse allegations against a now-convicted retired assistant.
Workers lifted the 7-foot-tall statue off its base and used a forklift to move it into Beaver Stadium as the 100 to 150 students watched, some chanting, "We are Penn State."

Then why is he currently serving 33 years in the Lovelock Correctional Center?
And YES. I should have made a clearer point on that other thread.
And yes. I talked to my local PD first. They know me. Ya know what they told me to do?????
Sorry to disagree with most here, but that statue should stay. The only change should be plaque on it. The plaque should tell the entire story of how Paterno and Penn State covered up the abuse of children for profit and football glory. I think the NCAA and the Penn. Legislature should require that that statue and plaque should remain on display at the front of the stadium as long a there is football played at Penn State. If the NCAA bans Penn State from Football, the statue and plaque should be placed in a very public area on the campus for at least a 100 years.
It’s NOT for double homicide. But guess what, he’s still a murderer. Don’t you think?
33 years? You sure about that?
Columnist Scott Ostler wrote a great column in the SF Chronicle last November that addresses your argument: Penn State's Joe Paterno gets what he deserves
Ostler wrote: Several e-mailers demand, "Have you ever heard of due process?" The due process I've heard of involves a justice system and a legal trial. Paterno faces no legal action or charge. Legally, his rear end is covered. But there was no trial when Paterno was sainted, no jury declared him one of the noblest and finest college coaches of all time. The public decided. It's the same deal on the flip side...
Other graphs from that Ostler column: What is the over-under number on how many people have to know about a depraved predator working under their noses before one of them takes a step to stop the predator and protect the victims? Jay Bilas, the ESPN college basketball commentator, called it "a conspiracy of cowards." ... With responsibility comes responsibility... "With the benefit of hindsight, I wish I had done more," Paterno said in a statement. That's pathetic. You need hindsight to tell you that you must do whatever you can to stop a dangerous criminal?
(Unlike the Happy Valley happy JoePa personality cultists who will have to get deprogrammed to realize that he should have never been deified in the first place)
I love the one where he’s decorated.
You seriously need to lighten up and get a life if that bothers you.

Sucks to be Bobby Bowden...
Meanwhile Sandusky is in his cage singing like a bird.
Why should he have done more? After all, there was no trial.
Where did you hear that? I'm not second guessing you, but I would have figured that Sandusky would continue to proclaim his complete innocence until his appeals are exhausted, after which he might become a cooperative witness just to get out of his cell long enough to testify.
On several threads we had a guy claiming that Sandusky caused Paterno’s early death........ until I pointed out to him that Paterno was in his mid 80s and had terminal cancer.
Hardly an “early death” and I doubt that Sandusky could cause cancer.
There is no doubt whatsoever that Paterno was made aware on multiple occasions that Sandusky was diddling little boys. This is confirmed by his own testimony, his email exchanges and in the Freeh report. There is no doubt that Paterno had the power to stop many of these children from getting raped by Sandusky, but he didn't. He admitted that himself.
Bottom line, he's s**tstain of historic proportions and rightfully being branded as such.
I dont think he is doing that
I’m sorry to hear that about your daughter. I’m at a loss as to what the Laurentian Abyss has to do with it?
Do you mean the Dark Knight Rises thread?
