Denver shooting suspect James Holmes purchased some 6,000 rounds of ammunition over the internet before carrying out hismassacre at a midnight screening of Batman.
The ammunition was part of a massive arsenal he gathered in the run-up to the killings, which also included four guns legally purchased at local gun shops.
His weapons were two Glock pistols, a 12-guage shotgun, and a high-powered AR-15 assault rifle fitted with a drum magazine allowing a fire rate of 50 to 60 rounds per minute.
Dan Oates, the chief of police in Aurora, Colorado, where Holmes killed 12 people and injured 58 others, said: He purchased four guns at local gun shops and through the internet he purchased over 6,000 rounds of ammunition, more than 3,000 rounds of 0.223 ammunition for the assault rifle, 3,000 rounds of 0.40 caliber ammunition for the two Glocks in his possession, and 300 rounds for the 12 gauge shotgun.
Also through the internet he purchased multiple magazines for the 0.223 caliber assault rifle including one 100-round drum magazine which was recovered from the scene.
Even if it was semi-automatic Im told by experts that with that drum magazine he could have got off 50 to 60 rounds within a minute. As far as we know it was a pretty rapid pace of fire in the theatre.
My understanding is that all the weapons he possessed, he possessed legally and all the clips that he possessed, he possessed legally and all the ammunition he possessed, he possessed legally.
Holmes is also believed to have joined a casual sex website where he apparently hinted at his plans for his killing spree, asking potential suitors: Will you visit me in prison?

The mentality of the journalists has been so indoctrinated and warped.
The writer referred to the “deadly arsenal” the shooter was able to obtain - as if the parts of that arsenal were under their own control and would be “deadly” no matter who possessed them. As stored arms and ammunition, for whatever purpose, the items themselves do not control themselves and they, on their own, were not deadly. The shooter was.
If the shooter woke up every morning hearing the call of his “arsenal” saying “use me”, “use me”, “kill”, “kill” it was the call of his own insane imagination, not the weapons or the ammunition.
Media Speak:
Automatic assault weapon = any gun purchasable at Walmart
Arsenal = two guns
Massive Arsenal = More than two guns
Enough guns to invade a small country = The amount of guns typically found in any self respecting gun owners gun safe.
Arsenal? I guess to you unarmed serfs in England—a drawer full of spoons would be considered an arsenal too.
LOL!
He probably just charged it to the credit card his BATFE contact gave him.
Funny, the media keeps focusing on what he purchased legally. What about the incendiary devices, explosives, aerial bombs, improvised pyrotechnics, etc. the police claim to have found in his apartment. None of that stuff can be purchased legally or possessed in weaponized form by the average law abiding citizen in Colorado those prohibitions seemed to have worked so well.
Think just how great an idea it would be to ban flammables and household chemicals that might be converted to evil use. Sorry, I forgot, Bloomberg is already working on that.
Blaming the violent person just doesn’t fit the template.
I have been wondering about that. If you were to three tap him center mass, the vest would stop the rounds, but could he continue the fight?
I will answer the question of how he got in there. The perp entered the theatre in his get up looking probably like half a dozen other movie goers in costume for this particular movie franchise. His weapons are in his car, in the parking lot at this time. During the first part of the movie, the perp leaves his seat, exits thru an emergency exit. While exiting he leaves the door ajar allowing him to reenter through the emergency door. He walks to his car, gets his weapons, and returns to the darkened theatre, thru the emergency door that he left open, weapons in tow. All this time, nobody notices for the simple fact that they are watching a highly anticipated movie. Like most theatres, security consists of very few pimply faced teenagers.
One of my scopes was more than most of his ‘arsenal’.
Yes! Almost like someone else gave him the money to purchase these weapon’s. Someone who would need an event like this,as a reason to push for the Second Ammendment destroying,’UN Gun Ban Treaty’,which Obama is rumored to be signing next Friday, the 27th. Someone like the Obama administration. That’s not sarcasm.
I don't know where you shop but my last delivery of 5.56 NATO (last week) was $305 including shipping. That was for 1000 rounds of Lake City 5.56 NATO.
We cannot safely assume. It my experience, it does not take a lot of training to operate an AR-15 or a 40cal Glock. You could learn to load and fire either of these weapons in about five minutes. Nothing hard about insert magazine, pull charging handle and pull trigger. Same with Glock, substitute rack slide for charging handle. Guns are not complicated machines. They are in many ways simple. As for shooting and aiming, the worst shot in the world would cause mayhem in a crowded movie theatre.
Sometimes the simplest explanations are the correct ones. Here an evil maniac opened fire in a crowded movie theatre for the reason only the maniac knows. No conspiracies, no paramilitary training, no politics involved.
Good tactical body armor will stop a rifle round. My CHL carry sidearm wouldn’t even sting him if he was wearing that type of ballistic protection.
Were he wearing a standard DOJ IIIA rated concealable vest...... Yes it would hurt like the dickens an derail his plan A for sure.
My opinion.... Stay Safe !
We Freepers seem to have terrible problems with tragic boating accidents that etc...

Ah yes, recall a couple of years ago when G. Gordon was talking about 2nd Amendment and weapons and someone reminded him that he, as a convicted felon, was not allowed to own such weapons.
To which GG replied
“I know that, but MRS Liddy has amassed a rather handsome collection” (or something like that)
Any knowledgeable people out there who can put a $$ figure on this guy’s purchases?
Good to see the price coming down Lake city was going for $500 per 1000 not so long ago.
Where did you get that price?

I pay around $6 for a box of 20 for 5.56, and $14 for a box of 50 for 40cal.
That said, it does appear someone or a group of someones did pool their money and come up with a plan.
He purchased a ticket and went in dressed as a normal movie patron. Then he went out the fire escape door (near the front of the theatre and to the side of the screen), and either had the stuff stashed close, or in his car, and suited up.
An UNIDENTIFIED THEATRE EMPLOYEE opened the FIRE ESCAPE DOOR (which is impossible to open from the outside), and let him back in.
That 'employee' has not been identified. (Clue: He wasn't even an employee. He was part of the 'team' of handlers)
