Colorado Tea Party Patriots member Jim Holmes told The Daily Caller in a Friday interview that his day has been surreal after falsely being linked to the Batman movie massacre in Colorado by an on-air ABC News reporter.
What kind of idiot makes that kind of statement? Holmes told TheDC. Really, seriously, how do we take a journalist seriously when its pretty clear they really havent done any sort of check on their facts?
Holmes has the unfortunate coincidence of sharing a similar name with James Holmes, the 24-year-old accused of going on a rampage during a midnight showing of the Dark Knight Rises in Aurora, Colorado early Friday morning.
Because of this, ABC News Brian Ross, appearing on Good Morning America on Friday, suggested the suspect could be a member of the tea party, citing the fact that theres a Jim Holmes of Aurora, Colo., page on the Colorado Tea Party site.
But Ross had the wrong guy: The tea partier he was referring to is this 52-year-old former law enforcement officer. ABC News was forced to apologize online.
Holmes told TheDC that ABC News didnt call him before going to air and he still hasnt heard from them or received a direct apology. No, not a thing, he said.
They couldve contacted me through the Tea Party Patriots website, said Holmes, who said he only recently joined the group and started attending lectures. (RELATED: Tea party leader tells media to stop reckless and false reporting)

My attorney and I would already be doing the paperwork on Brian Ross, George Stephanopoulos, ABC News, or anyone else remotely involved in this fiasco. To make statements about a private individual without first obtaining the facts (especially for someone associated with the national news media) is absurd, defamatory, and inexcusable. They ought to be sued, then the individuals fired.
And one could show MALICE, because the motivation to rush putting this info on the air was the fact that this name was associated with the TEA PARTY for which the news media wants to attempt to discredit and link to extremists.
If I ever hear about someone suing the Associated Press for libel, I will want to make a serious contribution to their legal fund.In this case I think it is essentially limited to a single network - but if you reflect on it, the libel is not merely for the particular individual but actually intended as a smear of the Tea Party movement.

I remember the day Gabrielle Giffords was shot. We heard the news on the radio as we were driving home from shopping at Walmart. I told my husband, “Oh; they’re going to blame the Tea Party.” We turned on the TV when we arrived at home 15 minutes later and, sure enough, the Tea Party was being blamed. They can’t help themselves, even though they’re NEVER right, and they ALWAYS look stupid.
Turns out the shooter was pretty much a-political, but lib leaning. (Aren’t they always?)
It’s ABC. I’m surprised they didn’t say, “Jim Holmes, Tea Partier and former porn star.”
People at ABC (and other MSM establishments) aren't "news reporters", they're DNC propagandists.
ABC apologized “online”?
Real men, eh
Crystal clear case of slander.
Enjoy your enhanced retirement bankroll, Jim!

Hear!Hear!
Dear ABC bobo reading this site for “assessment” and “weighing opinions.” Tell Ross that the decent thing for him to do now is to resign. Today.
As crazy as it with the media and fawning over Obama and Dems these pasts few years, it scares me to think that Brian Ross will not got fired or suspended but he will be awarded the position of moderator for Presidential debates this year....and Republicans would just say OK...
I remember, too, the day Gabrielle Giffords was shot in Tucson.
That night, David Muir, ABC News anchor twerp, was giving the news because it was a weekend.
David Muir said he asked Giffords’ father who would want to shoot her. “I’ll tell you who would want to shoot her,” Muir quoted the congresswoman’s father as saying, “The whole damn TEA Party.” I nearly smashed the TV.
Every TEA Party in Arizona should have sued that idiot David Muir, ABC News, and the father of Gabby Giffords.
“Im not a fan of lawsuits but in this case I think he should lawyer up and sue their a$$e$ off. Take a bite out of media jackals”
Ditto—what you said!
It’s not too late!
With extreme prejudice!
Lawyer up!! And make em pay $$$$$
