The reclusive drop-out PhD student behind the Dark Knight screening shooting spree said he was 'The Joker' after he carried out his horrific attack, it has been revealed.
James Holmes, 24, had painted his hair red to resemble Batman's arch nemesis before firing into the crowded theatre in Aurora, Colorado, according to New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly.
'It clearly looks like a deranged individual,' Kelly said of the shooter at a news conference, CBS reported. 'He had his hair painted red. He said he was "The Joker", obviously the enemy of Batman.'
A neighbour also reported that police, who were searching Holmes's apartment for explosives, asked him if he had seen 'a white guy with crazy hair, possibly dyed unnatural colors', the Denver Post said.
It has also emerged that Holmes, who is accused of killing 12 and injuring as many as 59 in the shooting, had been studying at the University of Colorado's medical campus until June this year.
But neighbours at university housing in Denver described Holmes as a recluse who kept himself to himself. One student said: 'No one knew him. No one.'
Holmes - who had been working towards his PhD for a year before dropping out - had one song blaring from his stereo in the hours before the massacre and left the music on repeat in his booby-trapped apartment as he departed to commit the massacre.
His shocked mother confirmed that he was behind the massacre, telling reporters: 'You've got the right man.'

Going by your impeccable logic, all those evil guns killed those people
What was the song?
A lot of mooseSlimes do this too.
I think it's more Hollyweird conditioning than anything.
Why does the NY Police Comm have to comment on this?
What I’m hearing from liberals this morning is, “Where were all those CCW holders who were going to save us from killings like this?”
In any crime situation, the greatest imponderable is the element of surprise. Here we have a movie that attracts fans who are going to dress up in exactly the kind of ordinarily-conspicuous gear that Holmes was wearing. It was a movie that started with a soundtrack that the gunfire was initially confused with. And when you’re in the dark, in a crowd and a smoke grenade has just been thrown, how do you know where the incoming is coming in from?
No $hit $herlock.
I do not think of Batman when I hear the ‘name’ JOKER... I am reminded of another JOKER image!!!!!
The answer is - they either weren't there, or left their weapons outside, because, as law abiding citizens, they observed and respected the "no weapons" policy of the theater.
That “No Weapons” policy certainly was a deterrent to this dingbat, eh?
In the 1970’s, while happily practicing law, I was a great fan of “The Muppet Show,” a show that cold easily be enjoyed on many levels by people of all ages. What i wonder is why the monster’s mother immediately knew he was the mass murderer.
And the answer is: Locked out.
Did you see this item, which says the theater chain has a no-firearms rule?
Funny how rules like that only stop law-abiding folks, and leave them at the mercy of lunatics and thugs who don't follow rules.
The one question for the execs -
“What did you intend to accomplish with your no weapons policy?”
“Sounds like the perp is a CRAZY, just as in the Tucson shooting.”
From the way his mother immediately identified him, I think you’re right. He was probably being treated for some serious illness that was carefully concealed. For some perverse reason, known only to him, he obsessed on Batman, just as Junior Hinkley obsessed on Jody Foster, went out, and converted that obsession into an atrocity.
just did a search, found this link and my computer monitor lit up all manner of concerns ..... sugar daddy is watching...
Shooter dresses out as the lead villainous character, IDs himself as such, shows up at this specific movie premier and kills as many innocents in attendance as possible.
Clearly this is a deranged man given to dark and violent fantasies, and he meticulously preplanned this very mass murder in the same evil vein as the Joker character.
But we're not supposed to make these associations if our logic is intact and conclude that he just happened to show up there and start shooting? Sure.
Truth is two conditions were necessary here: he had to be predisposed to mass deadly violence not as a result of self-defense due to a disordered mind, which is demonstrably true; and obviously he needed some motivation, which he gained from this film. It's not even deniable, and has nothing to do whatever with "gun control." Others rushed to attribute political motivations to this because they wished it so, and you somehow feel threated with my clear and really obvious conclusions because you think it's somehow threatens the 2nd Amendment. If that's bothering you the better course in repudiating gun-grabbers is not to reflexively deny the obvious but to point out that an unarmed audience permitted this crime, which strengthens 2nd amendment arguments, since most of recognize there will always be people like Holmes and Colin Ferguson bent on--and with or without access to guns-- the wherewithal for carrying out these kinds of atrocities.
A caller to the 850KOA Mike Rosen show just said he is 99% sure he interviewed the shooter at an occupy Denver protest. Said he recognized his face immediately. Said he would forward the tape or video to Mike. Take it for what its worth.
This guy has the same look as Loughner! They are legion, for they are many! So, how many more nuts will crack?
How can I say you're jumping to a conclusion when I was one who also suspected Obama may try to create such havoc as this before the election?
If he can carry out Fast & Furious he can do this.
All I can say is, you have a good point.

It is just a thought, but it could be within the relm of possibility. We've all seen things during this presidency that we'd never thought would happen.
I'd rather be wrong than not see it coming, if that makes any sense.
Did the caller give his name ? What was Rosen’s reaction ?
>>What Im hearing from liberals this morning is, Where were all those CCW holders who were going to save us from killings like this?<<
There was a no gun policy in the theater. All the CCW holders went to a different Multiplex.
