Daffy's Inc., a staple of the New York shopping scene for 51 years, is closing its doors. The Secaucus, N.J.-based discount retailer, which had been rumored to be in financial turmoil, said Monday that all its stores will be shuttering over the next few months, as part of a company liquidation.
In a statement, Daffy's said it "deeply regrets that this action was necessary due to the impact on its business of the uncertain economy and weak consumer spending and a lack of viable financial and business alternatives."
The discounter employs 1,300 people and operates a total of 19 locations, all of them in the New York metro area, with the exception of one in Philadelphia. Eight of them, including a 17,000-square-foot Times Square flagship that opened only last year, are in Manhattan.

There was a Daffy in VA some years ago, at Potomac Mill. Not sure when it closed, but it was probably the farthest outlet ever from its NJ/NY base. I’m always sad to see a long-standing business fold.
what do you sell/market?
I’m so sick of this depression already. Have had to put off many plans in life due to collapse in sales and business.
Where will the millionaires shop now?
If they didn’t build their business, I suppose then we need to blame Obama for every business that fails. And the people in the commnity that it fails in. If they were the ones that made it, according to Elizabeth Native American, and Barack MC Obama’s logic, everyone else must also be responsible for it failing.
First he would have given it billions in other people’s money, then he would have said “I saved it” and praised its “success”, and then it would have gone out of business.
I am an attorney who does a lot of construction law and business to business liens, UCC1’s, etc. A lot of creditor work too.
Most of the best clients I had are either out of business or severely downsizing.
Everyone is getting hurt in this economy.
may God bless you.
It has even hit medicine. Surgical cases are down across the country since people can’t afford the copays in this fiscal environment and put off their elective cases. We used to think medicine was recession proof but Obama has managed even to undercut that. And that was BEFORE Obamacare.
A lot of people are screwing the docs on the co-pays too. I get so angry at people thinking the General Docs are overpaid.
The amount of headaches just to keep an office open is staggering.
Our building contractor in Arizona just moved to Maryland to work for his brother. In Arizona he couldn’t feed his family. In the D.C. area he is very busy building. He was disgusted when he told us he was moving.
I guess the folks in and around the beltway would believe that the “private sector” is doing “just fine”. Of course the rest of the country is in the toilet.
Wonder how many of those newly unemployed voted for Hopey Changey...it IS in NY and NJ after all...
I am in the Bronx and I see barely any Obama 2012 stickers whatsoever. A few here or there, but not much at all.
Duck’s out of business1
Hate to say it...but...life has a twisted sense of irony.
Those that voted for this assclown and lost their jobs...well, ya gots yer hope and change right up the keister.
Those folks...they should have told him they like to be KISSED first, before they get screwed.
The underground economy is growing because it’s too damn expensive and exhausting to comply with the regulatory demands of the government’s economy.
BO is too economically illiterate to understand anything about any of his policies and will continue to double down on stupid while criminalizing anything and everyone he deems obstructive.
He and his sycophants will turn this country into a North Korean style communist cult if we don’t send him packing in November.
Thanks! I know you are a union lover which Walmart refuses to take part. Sometimes you are more liberal than the Democrats.
Well it could be worse....I will never forget sitting in the hot car while my Dad had to wait for gas in those HORRIBLE 70’s. I guess this is bad but I thought the 1970’s were horrid and I was 8 in 1977 when Carter began his nastiness. I will ALWAYS find Carter to be the worst President in the history of the USA. Obama is second worse for sure.
Agreed - those who are knowingly and cheeringly refusing to vote in november to oust this monster make me angry beyond words you have no idea.
Its like they want this nation to descend into communism and chaos rather than at least taking the chance that mittens could turn things around, even if that chance is remote.
FUBO!
I spent a week there on vacation in April.
I couldn’t believe how prosperous the area was.
Someday we’re gonna have to go in with pitchforks and Molotov cocktails...
