Easy....Minor uses Vittel’s definition almost word for word.....no surprise there, as his book “Natural Law, The Law of Nations” was used as a text in law schools up until the end of the 19th century....small point, but I didn’t bring up Vittel, although he was a 18th century western jurist.....
WKA provides “born” citizenship status for people that were born in the US to legally residing non citizen parents other than the originally intended children of slaves. To say that WKA changed the definition of NBC as understood by the Framers is absurd. NBC status was not an issue in the case, Wong wasn’t running for President.... the only place in US Law that such status matters.
The WKA decision used the 14th Amendment to partially answer the question left open in Minor.....”who else (besides NBCs) shall be citizens?” The whole case of WKA revolves around “born” citizenship (no need to naturalize), not WKA’s inclusion in the subset of Natural Born Citizenship. Additionally, besides the 14th Amendment, the tradition of jus solis was used to justify the decision for WKA as being a born citizen.

BTW a fair reading of Justice Gray does not support your position, unless you insist on adding a few words here and there.....or quoting people that do.....Justice Gray never declared WKA a NBC, that status was not an issue in the case.
He did however, and I think this is where you and others go astray, say that WKA’s citizenship was AS IF he had been an NBC, thereby avoiding leaving the impression of the decision creating a 2nd class of citizenship. In the US, all citizens, whether born or naturalized are equal in their rights and responsibilities. AS IF doesn’t mean is....
About the only thing he could do to get me to not vote for him is to have a VP pick who is not Constitutionally eligible.

Hate to disagree w/ you....but Pawlenty in not widely considered ‘competent’ anymore. He left MN in a HUGE financial hole by his use of short term borrowing to ‘balance’ the state budget. ***see below some Pawlenty numbers.
R’s and D’s alike in MN believe that Pawlenty used short term accounting tricks w/ the idea that he would make himself look better for his Presidential run. Alas, Pawlenty does not look good back in MN or in the rest ot the country w/ Paw’s lame run for President.
I’m still guessing Romney will pick some avg person who won’t cause a stir or detract from Romney. I ‘hope’ he proves me wrong and picks a very strong conservative as a running mate.

Having voted for Susana Martinez in both the primary and general election I can safely say Mitt Romney would do far better with Virginia’s Bob McDonnell.
Susana is in the middle of her first term as Governor, New Mexico needs her to say anther 2 years at least. She is also not nearly as conservative as Virginia’s Bob McDonnell.

I could get behind either of those two Gov’s. I think McDonnell has a better chance of bringing his state w/ him. Everytime I’ve seen McDonnell on tv...he has come across very, very well. Smooth, direct and likeable. And from what I’ve seen...very conservative. I really like him.
I do think Martinez would ‘check some boxes’ but may be too soon for her. I would hate to see her get Palinized by the LSM.

Well...to tell the truth...haven’t been paying attention to Virgil. I have heard that the polls, such as they are, have Willard and O at about the same level. Perhaps the Virginia Gov can give Willard a boost.
Nowhere in Madison’s “Notes,” can I find a definition of “Natural-born.Gouverneur Morris objected several times to allowing foreigners to be officers of the United States, but it was always in the context of persons whose loyalty was to their place of origin. From what I can gather, probably Morris got the word introduced as he was the pensman of the document, a rhetorical flourish someone like his WE THE PEOPLE.
Neither Jindhal nor Rubio was born abroad, and their parents cut all their ties to their homes and were naturalized according to our laws. Neither man has “foreign” attachments. Indeed, ironically each man seems more attached to our laws and customs than the President. Nor are they anchor babies, since the same seems to be true of their parents. I don’t know if Obama’s mother did or did not alienate her son, but his attachment to this country seems slight. Which does arouse suspicion about two very loyal Americans.

Commonly understood terms are often undefined in their usage. Natural Born Citizen is a term that goes back ceenturies to Roman law. It’s usage was included in popular legal tomes of the day. The Founders, at least the ones that made the most impact, were well read and open to the political thoughts of their day....Locke, Vittel,Rousseau, etc.
Or like Clinton did you expect to be explained the meaning of “is” in the text of the Constitution?

That said I have respect for both Jindal and Rubio, but following our law they are not eligible....So sorry, but they aren’t the only pols availiable for POTUS....Don’t like it? Tough...... get the Constitution Amended......until then follow the law as written and intended.

You the term was used in the Constitution, but not defined there. It is not a scientific terms, and it CAN mean native born. Looking at what Madison recorded, and man was there, it was not used to settled any controversy but for no purpose but to exclude Foreign born persons, except those who were citizens in 1789. The latter are grandfathered. But why argue? Neither my theory nor yours has been accepted by a competent authority, which would be Congress or a federal court. You are free to thing them unqualified/disqualified, but that does not make it so.
