That sound you hear is silence—as millions of small business owners and entrepreneurs were left speechless this weekend from President Obama’s latest insult.
The slap in the face to hard-working Americans conveyed Obama’s belief that it takes a village—a heavily subsidized village—to create that venture you’re profiting from:
Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business—you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.
Obama pushed his policy goals of infrastructure (aka stimulus) spending and “government research” as part of a collectivist utopia “doing things together.” It’s simply stunning that he would tell Americans, “If you’ve got a business—you didn’t build that.”
After all, could individuals be resourceful and hard-working enough to create whole new enterprises? Obama said:
Look, if you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own. You didn’t get there on your own. I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart.
It is this view of successful businesses—essentially, “You owe us”—that drives Obama’s continued attacks on the country’s job creators in the form of tax hikes and regulations.
It’s a tough time to be a business owner and entrepreneur in America. Surveys show small business owners are struggling, and they are not expanding or hiring because of tax and regulatory uncertainty. Federal agencies, from Health and Human Services to the Environmental Protection Agency, are regulating them to death. And just last week, President Obama announced his latest economic plan was to hit job creators with a tax increase.
The President’s plan to raise taxes on earnings above $200,000 ($250,000 for joint filers) would hit 1.2 million small-business employers who pay their taxes through the individual income tax, known as flow-through businesses. These businesses that are creating jobs earn almost all—91 percent—of the income earned by flow-through employer-businesses.
The new tax increase could be equivalent to one employee per small business. According to calculations by The Heritage Foundation’s Center for Data Analysis, the average American with $250,000 or more in income can expect an average $24,888 tax increase next year under Obama’s proposed policies. That $24,888 figure is often enough for a salary. So the President could be putting about 1.2 million jobs—perhaps even more—at risk with this tax hike.
Hitting private job creators while advocating more stimulus spending and government jobs. That’s the President’s plan for the economy.
Meanwhile, businesses large and small suffer from the highest corporate tax rate in the developed world. This has long made the U.S. an uncompetitive place for new investment and has driven new jobs to other, more competitive nations, meaning fewer jobs and lower wages for all Americans.
If the U.S. is to see economic recovery, we must encourage entrepreneurship. Stopping the biggest tax increase in American history, Taxmageddon, would be a good place to start. It’s a $494 billion tax hike set to hit on January 1, when a number of tax policies expire and just a few of Obamacare’s new taxes kick in. Businesses are already hesitating on hiring decisions because of the impending effects of these taxes.
Democratic leaders are demanding tax hikes, however, and threatening to allow Taxmageddon for the sake of politics—despite warnings that it would send the U.S. back into recession.
Real recovery will take even more than saving job creators from punishing taxes and regulations. It requires leadership that appreciates and values the long hours that America’s business builders put in and the personal sacrifices they make for their dreams. It will take leaders who say, “If you’ve got a business—you built that. And we want more of that in America.”
I do not own a business, but I have friends/family who do. This list is likely far from thorough, but it's a start. So on their behalf:
ODrama: “You Didn’t Build Your Business"
Is that so? Who was it that was getting up at 5 in the morning to go to work? Who was it who managed the books, keeps track of receipts, bills, maintenance costs, fuel costs? Who was it who tracks employees times? And not just hours they worked, but hours for vacation time accumulated, for sick time, overtime, training times (starting and current)? Who manages the myriad of governmental rules and requirements and Union rules and OSHA rules, environmental rules, fire rules? Who was it who watched and managed sales, refunds if needed, warranty and guarantees? Who stood alongside the people in manufacturing to help out when the flu knocked a bunch of people out of the line? Who maintains inventory, removed old/expired products from it? Who stays for hours after the end of day to clean the place, watch for potential signs of infestation and address it? Who went for weeks and months without a check so his/her workers DO get their paycheck? WHo was it who purchased a car or truck for the business. Who drove people home during a storm (or picked them up)? Who was it who takes all responsibility for paying bills, vendors, taxes, health care, unemployment, social security, etc etc etc?
It was the owner. The guy who put all he had on the line to produce something, to create a business.. to employ people and pay a fair wage. It wasn't the town. It wasn't the IRS or OSHA. And it sure the hell wasn't the likes of YOU. Go away you hypocrite.

Speaking of Michelle - This past Saturday my daughter 23 (rising 3L at Washington and Lee Law) and her boyfriend had a flight out of La Guardia for North Carolina to attend the wedding of a fellow Washington & Lee law school friend. The flight was supposed to leave at 10:00. The flight did not leave until 2:00 pm. Guess why??? Michelle Obama was flying in. They missed the ceremony although made it to the reception. People were NOT happy!! The arrogant elitist entitled attitude is absolutely sickening!!!! Why did she surrender her law license, anyway? I wish someone would look into THAT mess.

I experienced this attachment recently when our libinlaw was at our house and was VERY ANGRY that we had “prepper items” in our house.
She just kept repeating how “insane” it was, but I read right through it - our preps were pointing out the imminent failure of her worldview.
The fact that you were seen to be prepping also amounted to a threat. Fundamentally mentally disturbed individuals respond with denial and insults - and that’s exactly what you got.

We are in big trouble.
I walked out of my last time card job when I was about 38. I am now almost 73.
I worked as a bookkeeper for small businesses. I was also already doing books for smaller places than the one where I worked 40 hours a week & walked out. The owner blamed me for something I didn’t do and told a vendor of such blame. Problem? I already knew that vendor before I took that job. I was pissed. I walked out.
I had $69 in my bank account when I left that desk. My current cycle of bills were paid. I went out & found more work by word of mouth. I worked for small businesses which didn’t need a full time bookkeeper. Some months I billed only 2 hours to a small business.
I paid my own health insurance.
I paid for my own supplies, lights, heat & auto expenses.
I made more money working for myself & paying higher SS taxes than I made working for a time card paycheck.
I still have 2 active clients. I have worked for one over 40 years & the other over 37 years.
I don’t have a single recollection of the government finding me any clients.
I don’t remember the government helping me to meet deadlines for payroll reports, etc.
I don’t remember the government paying one single health insurance premium.
I don’t remember the government buying me one single tank of gasoline or one single set of spark plugs.
The idea that I didn’t build my business out of nothing to a client list of as high as 19 clients all by myself is beyond insulting.
That imposter in the Oval Office couldn’t work for me doing simple alphabetical filing of paid bills.
His ‘wife’ is not one lick better.

In discussing Zero’s comments about “the Feds building your business”
my family was contemplating a careers as a Community Organizers.
We had questions as to were do we start school, what are the pay scales, requirements and where would be the best locations to start.
We only came up with one answer to the questions and are looking for outside help on the others.
We did come up with the best place to start and that was Chicago. It seems to have “business style” conducive to making “Fast” money. The ladder to success seems to rise rapidly from that arena.
Business partners that need help can call the White House. Solyndra got help why can’t you and I?
