A Delta flight that was headed to Spain from Kennedy Airport turned around in the air and made an emergency landing after some cut wires were discovered in the plane's bathroom, sources said.
Delta Flight 126 took off for Madrid at about 8:10 p.m. When an air marshal on board was alerted to some cut wires in a lavatory on the plane, officials decided to bring the plane back to Kennedy.

I bet someone tried to disable the smoke detector so they could have a cigarette.

Passengers were taken off the flight in a "controlled evacuation," sources told ABC News.
However, searchers found no evidence of a bomb.
Authorities had been proceeding with caution and intended to interview the person who found the wires -- apparently one of a team of armed federal air marshals aboard the flight.
Although numerous early reports suggested suspects were in custody, authorities said initially that those reports appeared inaccurate.
Someone trying to disable the smoke detector in the toilet would be my first guess based on the very limited and changing information. If I was on the flight, I’d be unhappy about now.

The source told Reuters that the man being held was of Middle Eastern origin, while the woman was from Argentina.
The wires found in the toilet were not part of the plane's systems, the source said.

I was on a plane that had a bomb scare about 30 years ago.A Pan Am flight from Frankfurt to Berlin.A very frightening experience to be sure.
