Texas Is America's Top State for Business 2012
CNBC American Top States for Business 2012 ^ | 10 JUL 12 | CNBC

Texas has done it again.

The Lone Star State makes a triumphant return as America’s Top State for Business—its third time at the top of our rankings.

“Listen, there is a reason that Caterpillar [CAT 80.27 -2.87 (-3.45%) ] moved their hydraulics manufacturing and their engine manufacturing to the state of Texas,” said Gov. Rick Perry in November during the CNBC Republican presidential debate.

We can attest to that.

In our sixth annual study, Texas racked up an impressive 1,604 points out of a possible 2,500, with top-10 finishes in six of our 10 categories of competitiveness. Texas has never finished below second place since we began the study in 2007.

My wife and I are considering moving to a truely free state. Her family is all in CA, and we just can't afford to live there, put up with their anti-gun laws (both of us CCW), and just plain don't want the aggravation of living in a liberal state that punishes hard work and risk.

We are in Little Rock, AR now, and only 3 hours from the Texas border. We may just have to buy a second home down there and establish a "republic of TX citizenship" before CW2 kicks off.

Anyways, the article is excepted:

Congrats Lone Star Freepers! (Be sure to send a buck or two to JimRob)

Texas is the antithesis of 0bama’s ideology. All of America could easily be like Texas. It takes MORE effort NOT to be like Texas than it does to be like Texas. REGULATIONS ARE POISON! Congrats, Texas!

As long as you’re at least 70 miles away from Austin, Dallas, Houston, or San Antonio you’ll be fine. Liberals control all 4 of those cities.

I’m in San Antonio. I don’t have a problem here. Then again, I left Jersey to come home to Texas.

In NJ, Austin would be considered a Conservative enclave.

God Blessed Texas — Little Texas

A consistent pro-business climate that encourages free enterprise and investment pays off yet again for the Lone Star State. Along with our liberty-loving Right to Work Laws, there's no surprise that Texas means business. And criminals -- take note -- Texas means business as well with a no-nonsense approach when it comes to application of the death penalty.

Texas has been the land of opportunity ever since it belonged to Mexico . Then we Texans decided we didn’t wasn’t to live by Santa Anna’s laws so we kicked him out. Now we’re doing the same to Obama because we’re Texans and we won’t live under tyranny. Never have, never will!

Welcome to all who want to visit, or legally live in TEXAS!

It is really 5 distinct States with the center State being the Hill Country.

Enjoy!

Wha? 7 miles N. of SanAn is Hill Country, God's Country. Almost anything north of 1604 is fine. 70 miles is like Fredericksburg, which I like but isn't a place I'd live.

OTOH, Houston, you need maybe half that 70 miles (again, north) to get to The Woodlands, which is as close as I'd live.

Welcome to Texas, but leave your Liberalism that destroyed your previous state at the state line.

70 miles is a bit much. The most conservative county in Texas, Collin, is centered just 30 miles north of the city of Dallas and Collin County borders Dallas County on the northern edge.

But your point about the interior of those towns is spot on.

Denton County and Collin County are two of the reddest counties in the USA, both border Dallas County (within 35 miles).

You don't have to be 70 miles away. Just far enough away to live in a conservative county -- like Collin (north of Dallas) or Williamson (north of Austin).
