Standing at a Skokie Holiday Inn before a table full of Obama! Oy Vey! buttons, Anita Ashe and Ellen Warsaw had a strikingly similar story to tell. The women, both Skokie residents, were born and raised in an environment where voting Democratic was as natural for their families as the Friday Shabbat dinners that were a regular part of their Jewish faith. Despite that political history, Ashe in recent years has found herself attending events sponsored by he Chicago Chapter of the Republican Jewish Coalition after becoming more and more conservative as I read more and get perspectives on the issue.

Bingo! As I mentioned in a previous post.
Secular Jews are liberal first, Jewish second.
I will gladly welcome any proof you have of “Jew-bashing” on FR, besides the occasional troll. If simply having a discussion regarding voting trends is “bashing” and “offensive” you might need to go elsewhere.
Cite the “Jew-bashing” you are referring having “seen too much of”.
Maybe it has something to do with the % that live in rural areas vs. urban areas. I think any group’s members might generally trend to be more liberal if they live in urban areas more often than not. I mean, is there any group that has such a high % of members living in urban areas that are really conservative? I don’t know, just throwing it out there, could be completely off. Seems like generally the cities are blue and the rural areas red. Also not discounting historic and other cultural reasons.
There are great conservative Jews on FR and in the conservative media.
Freegards
“becoming more and more conservative as I read more and get perspectives on the issue.”
Yep, educating yourself on freedom has that effect.
Good grief, someone please tell me how I got “flamed” for posting an excerpt and defending FR regarding “Jew-bashing”.
You posted an observation a former girlfriend had? That’s soooooo liberal... stupid... or something like that.
Again, God Bless and Shalom, FRiend.
Thanks for the comment.
I’m not Jewish, she was, It was her observation and her explanation to me of the possible rationale for her political views and those of other Jews she knew.
If youd like to be on or off, please FR mail me.

Glad you've seen the light and detoxified yourself from your 'Rat addiction, Ms. Ashe. But your statement about women having the right to vote being "because of the Democrats" is historically inaccurate. The women's suffrage movement leading up to the Nineteenth Amendment was bipartisan.
This is just one many of those historical myths that circulates particularly among Jewish Democrats, necessary from their perspective to keep the ignorant on the "reservation." But as the case of Ms. Ashe proves, the 'Rats of today are having an increasingly difficult time hiding their anti-Israel policies and prominent antisemitic individuals, even when their historical myths persist.

I know you're trying to be witty there, and there's some truth to what you say, describing the withdrawal symptoms of an addiction. However, registering Republican is usually a pretty strong commitment to change one's errors of the past, regardless of whether the individual is Jewish or not.
It is the big socialist governments in history that kill so many Jews.
Normally, a citizen voter would look at the party's past performance and stance and then go from there. I think that Jews associate Republicans and somehow inherently evil Capitalist/Big Interest/Warmongering/Fascist-Bigots or at least gun-toting loonies in general. Yet, what we have seen over time is that it is the Right that supports a strong and sovereign Israel more than the Rats. American Jewry has the luxury to suffer from a disease called “Liberalism” and it is sooooo entrenched that it may never be exorcised out of the body of Jewish voters.
Israelis on the other hand, are on the front lines everyday and serve their country. They are more realistic because they are closer to death and the consequences of failed policies. American Jews are not, though they may identify with their bretheren in Israel. This makes for interesting polling as the VAST majority of Israelis support Conservative, Strong and power-projecting US Presidents while their brothers in America are like wet noodles - hence the continued support for losers like Carter, Clinton and Obama. I think a mandatory draft in the US might move the US in the right direction, including the Jewish communities - no draft dodging this time.
To add to your narrative, having a long history of being a persecuted ethnic minority, they’ve also felt an affinity to American blacks who are mostly Democrat. (That’s a whole other irony, since Republicans have historically done FAR more for blacks than Democrats who kept them enslaved one way or another. A real shame that they believe the liberal propaganda to the contrary.)
If you check the cspan archives from 3 or 4 years ago, there’s an excellent speech with q&a by Norm Podhoretz (I believe on Book TV/cspan2). It was on his book Why Are Jews Liberal?
It’s really good!
(I think you were thinking of Jonah Goldberg’s Liberal Fascism :-)
