SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- California lawmakers approved billions of dollars Friday in construction financing for the initial segment of what would be the nation's first dedicated high-speed rail line, eventually connecting Los Angeles and San Francisco.
The state Senate voted 21-16 on a party-line vote after intense lobbying by Gov. Jerry Brown, Democratic leaders and labor groups.

I think they are building the route from Tijuana direct to East LA. Flows nicely with the anti Arizona immigration law they just passed to assure a steady stream of illegals into their cities
If it doesn’t stop at Bodega Bay, I ain’t ridin’ it.
Idiots will poke our budget out with that thing.
California will be bankrupt before that line is half done.
Two hundred billion dollars? Bwahahahahahahahaha!!
Idiots!!
That might be enough to cover your rear on your way out.
Well, if you look at the picture I posted, you can see they plan an eventual rail extension to Tijuana. It’s show in a lighter gray like Las Vegas and Phoenix are shown. But it look clear to me the bullet train would eventually go to Tijuana.
Great, you can now get there in a couple of hours by train to get your STDs, switchblades and loco weed.
Gilroy as well as Visalia, so the high speed rail line won’t have any passengers but they will get onions and garlic to market in an hour or its free!
I am not among the Californians who thing this communist controlled cesspool of liberal insanity can be saved.
California is a one party Democrat state. There are 4 registered Democrat voters for every 3 GOP registered voters.
California is the ONLY state in the USA that elected more Democrats during Obama’s 2010 blood bath. Every other state picked up GOP House members and Governors. NOT California. We elected three of the most mentally impaired San Francisco bay area politicians to state wide office — San Francisco attorney general Kamila Harris to State attorney general, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsome to Lt. Governor, and that starry eyed utopian crack-pot, Oakland Mayor Jerry Brown to Governor.
Do you need any more evidence that we are doomed.
And this before you consider that California has 1/3 of all of the welfare cases in the USA. The other 49 US states combined only have double the number of welfare recipients that California has alone.
This before you consider that California has about 20% of all of the illegal immigrants in the nation.
We are completely doomed.
Some here keep posting to stay and fight for the fine weather and sandy beaches. Sorry, but I’m not into Auschwitz on the beach. I’ll take freedom in a barren desert before I’ll take tyranny on a sandy beach.
No, the day I retire, I am off to fight for a state at risk of being over-run by liberals, but can still be saved with an influx of conservatives.
Ha! good luck...
Merced to Bakersfield first leg.
Makes sense, emanate domain to destroy some farms.
I thought this was dead in the water a few weeks ago.
Amazing what J. Brown can do with his palm well greased
China must have California’s money. Arnold promised it and Jerry is delivering.
How can it be High-Speed Rail if it has to make all those stops ?
It does have an economic purpose, to enrich China. It also has geopolitical purpose, because China has been very keen to control our transportation infrastructure, starting with the Port of Long Beach,Pier J, way back in the day Ms Feinstein who has extensive ‘investments’ in China, approved.
It is spreading from there.
Maybe you jump on board as it goes past at 144 mph.
Personally, I think we have already passed the point of recovery for the whole US. A breakup is probably going to happen. I expect anywhere from 3-5 new countries from once was the US.
I pray it isn’t bloody but the infection of Washington and the liberal horde will not be sated. They want total control and servitude and some of us will not go for that. Most of New England, Illinois, and California are goners for sure.
The continual ignoring of the debt bomb will take us all out and then things will get really interesting... As you have already stated, California is leading the way for us...off a cliff.
The future of the central valley is grim. Fresno is looking more and more like LA every day with bums and gang member hanging out on streets. The police are overwhelmed. I am suspicious that state buses criminal and section 8 recipients to the central valley because there is more room and the cost of living is less. There are no jobs here. The largest employer is the Hospital systems and the state government. Agriculture is being crushed by environmental regulation and government restriction of water, both a result of liberal policy. The high speed rail will rip though thousands of acres of productive farm land. Real estate is destroyed. The state legislature passed a law to allow people to sue the banks resulting in delaying foreclosure so that people will stay in the foreclosed house for years without payment or eviction. The banks will stop loans and no one will be able to buy your house. Utilities are going up both because of failing infrastructure, buying power outside the state and free services for the poor. Public schools are frightening and you would never send your kids unless you had no choice. They have so many restrictions on guns and lead bullets. The people here of Mexican decent have family in Mexico and they want no restrictions on the border.Illegals have brought disease, corruption, crime, and poverty. The pandering liberal legislature is willing to make this a sanctuary state. If you have any net worth the state will extract it because it is all about redistribution of wealth.
The paradigm here is so toxic that California should be jettisoned from the union. It would be like cutting off a gangrenous limb. Personally I am trying to leave but I will take a huge financial loss.
Move to Evansville, IN. Settle in one of the very rural adjoining counties. Start a big garden, can a lot of food, enjoy hunting deer, rabbits, turkey, etc..
Go fishing.
Build a big basement.
Enjoy your conservative neighbors.
Did I leave out make wine and beer?
I know of cheap land in CO if you want to live in the middle of nowhere.
I have a property here: http://www.cedarwood-hoa.com/
and the land prices have come down some since I bought ($1k per acre, lower now).
The location is pretty remote, about 40 miles from Pueblo. However you have power and fiber to all plots and wells are pretty easy to drill. I have a house there where I shoot on weekends, and plan on retiring to.
Of course Colorado could be better politically, but it’s not horrible. Yet.
Go surfing for “Yellow Book” and appraisal.... None of the condemnation work will comply....just a guess....
It is infuriating what they have done to this beautiful state, all in the name of socialism and totalitarianism.
When this state had liberty, it was a gem. Now the rot is prolific from Canada to Mexico.
I just want vengeance on somebody for destroying my beautiful state.
When I was young boy living in San Francisco, 8 or 9, I would say a little thing like, “I am so happy I was born in the BEST city in the state, in the BEST state in the country, in the best country in the world.”
Now, San Francisco is the most degenerate city, California is the most socialist bankrupt state, and the government of the USA is thoroughly corrupt. It is still the best country, but no longer by leaps and bounds.
It is just maddening what the communists and UN have done to us. Just maddening.
Beats me, but I’m not surprised. Liberals don’t us logic, just emotion. They don’t care if it doesn’t work, just so long as it feeeeeels good. Just having a state run toy called “high speed rail” makes them feel green and carbon neutral and sustainable. It doesn’t actually need to work right in order for the California commie libs to feeeeeeeeel good that they’ve saved the planet from us evil SUV drivers.
Your theory that China benefits most from California HSR is the best I’ve read of. I’ll bet you are right.
